It's mad that the BBC let Jimmy Saville shag kids but god forbid someone criticises the Tories!

Surely you can't expect all Presenters to be given free reign to use their privileged positions to push their personal political agendas?  You are old enough to know that BBC employees are constrained by the terms of their contract to uphold a non partisan position as a condition of the licence fee?

If another high profile figure was spouting the opposite views then they would also need to be spoken to.

You will also know that Lineker is pushing his podcast pairing with Alastair Campbell so all publicity is good for him. Despite being in 'talks' with BBC management for days he arrogantly told press that he would be presenting MOTD as usual.

It is not a question of whether you support his views as such. Rather a question of whether we want a national broadcaster or not. The more you call for BBC employees to exert unfettered freedom of speech the sooner the whole concept collapses.

He posted it on his own personal twitter account and is a freelance worker who happens to present some BBC (sports) programmes. Andrew Neil had a weekly political programme on BBC One and was allowed to post whatever the hell he liked on Twitter for years.

Didn’t apply to Andrew Neil did it.

The same Andrew Neil who trolled Boris for avoiding an interview? Neil was feared and respected by politicians across the board and was admired by fellow political presenters. His views on football I am less familiar with.

As with Gary Neville, Lineker confuses popularity and Twitter reach with gravitas. Money and ego have powered his flight rather too close to the sun.

I wonder what Keeley Donovan's opinions are about the Government's levelling up policies. I pay my licence fee, I need to know!

It’s not just Lineker that’s falling foul of this though. One of Sir David Attenborough episodes has been pulled for highlighting the damage being done to the countryside, nature and the pollution poured into rivers because it may upset landowners, big business, the water companies and the Daily Telegraph

intercourse kids, corpses and the disabled, BBC love you and you get a knighthood, speak the truth and you’re outcast…ironic really isn’t it? Those who bemoan cancel culture and all it stands for have inadvertently just done the very thing they so loudly detest…

They’ve copulated everything else up so have put out some policy to appeal to the lowest common denominators to try and revive some support. It’s backfiring massively - only the anti-cancel culturists who are tying themselves in knots to justify the Lineker stuff are on side with it.
