That can only be good for us on Super Sunday as we wont have him creaming his pants over his beloved Wrexham with multiple mentions of them, even though they are out of the Cup.

Hopefully Shearer and his happy smiling face will support Lineker and not be a pundit either.

He should be allowed to say what he wants on his own Twitter. He never said it on air. He doesn't represent the BBC 24 hours a day. Doesn't matter whether he was right or wrong.

The govt have inadvertently proven his point by putting pressure on the BBC to act thus suppressing his free speech.

Surely you can't expect all Presenters to be given free reign to use their privileged positions to push their personal political agendas?  You are old enough to know that BBC employees are constrained by the terms of their contract to uphold a non partisan position as a condition of the licence fee?

If another high profile figure was spouting the opposite views then they would also need to be spoken to.

You will also know that Lineker is pushing his podcast pairing with Alastair Campbell so all publicity is good for him. Despite being in 'talks' with BBC management for days he arrogantly told press that he would be presenting MOTD as usual.

It is not a question of whether you support his views as such. Rather a question of whether we want a national broadcaster or not. The more you call for BBC employees to exert unfettered freedom of speech the sooner the whole concept collapses.
