I love it. Bollockings from the sanctimonious who don’t seem to want us to be ambitious. In terms of league standing and the future ticket sales at the club, we need success. Football is what is important. The fluffy stuff is lovely but it doesn’t win football matches.
Sorry if this doesn’t cut it with many but I’m all for a scrappy 1-0 on a quagmire if that’s what’s needed.
I’d argue the ‘fluffy stuff’ is more important than what happens on the pitch. It goes back to what we all consider to be success. It’s unlikely that without crazy levels of investment we will ever be higher than L1. We will never get into the Premier League. We will never play in Europe. We are unlikely to win a major cup. What we can do is create a club that we are proud of supporting. It might sound ridiculous but (sadly and nostalgically) you won’t attract new, young fans by having to wear gaiters at the urinals and allowing female fans to be frisked for feminine hygiene products at the turnstiles.

Behind what? Top spot? It’s barely relevant.
We ain’t winning the league this season. We’ve signed 15 players already with more to come. Anyone with hopes or expectations of us taking the title needs to get that idea out of their head quickly. It’s not realistic.
We came into this league in a sorry, sorry old state, and we’re not going to turn that around in a matter of months. I’ve read posts on here citing how imperative it is to get back up this season given looming salary caps etc. and they’re completely valid. But none of that makes the challenge of getting out of this league any easier - we were utterly dysfunctional last season and that carries into this one.
If anything, it makes it harder as clubs in far better shape than us reach the same conclusion and set out to make this their last season in the abyss.
Kick and scream all you want. We might make the playoffs this season. We might not. Probability says we won’t go up at the first attempt.
This isn’t happy clapping, if there are glaring errors in the running of the club or the performance of the team then they should 100% be called out, but the frustration and anger at where we find ourselves, and will likely remain for at least a little while, shouldn’t be channeled at those currently in charge of the club or those on the pitch.at this moment in time.
We all have our expectations. Personally I expect to see continuous improvement and us finish the season stronger than we start it. You can say Hurst was here for half of last season and that is correct but the players available to him in January were much more limited than the summer for one reason or another. That brings us on to the summer recruitment. The vast majority of our team are new signings so it is going to take time for the team to gel. Aside from promotion, if we get to the end of this season needing only a few new signings we will have done alright I think.

What a ridiculous comment. I want us back in the league as soon as possible. I’m also mindful that it’s not going to be easy. If we have 5 points after 5 games, we could be 10 behind.
Not a ridiculous comment but several genuine questions. Just trying to ascertain how long into the season before you will be sharpening your knife.

Sorry. I’m not having that. If the prime ambition of a football club is not football success then you’ve lost me.

That’s fair enough. The irony, as Bigdog says, is that those accusing the likes of me as being negative, appear to have written this season off.
Nobody's writing anything off, if we get into the play-offs that's a decent season, once we land in that mix we have as good a chance as anyone.

Would you not agree that things like culture, facilities and round balls are not essential for sustainable success?

Our height of ambition is the play offs? Maybe? I feel slightly upset that we’ve bought 4 season tickets if that’s the case.

‘Football success’ on the pitch is unsustainable without improvements off the pitch (training facilities, ground, fan engagement etc). No fan will ever be satisfied with what happens on the pitch. Most are addicts who will always want and expect more.

Be positive !
There is absolutely no point in being positive for the sake of it. Everybody knows we are short of players; the manager knows it, the fans know it. It is not going to make the position any better by being positive. Spend money on an established goalscorer then yes, we would be more positive.

I think we'll more likely do a bit better than that..
Having read this thread.. what I find remarkable is that many of the posters that are complaining about negativity from certain fans are the same ones who preach patience and we shouldn't expect to get promoted at the first attempt, de facto being as negative as the negative posters they're self-importantly chastising..
Exactly. Most of us are being negative because we know without a goalscorer (the most important part of the jigsaw) we won't be competitive enough. However, it seems a different type of negativity as long as you say we should expect it! Why? Why should we accept being unable to match the other big hitters in this league as we enter the final week of the close season without a recognised striker? I thought new owners would mean embarrassing situations like this would not arise.
