Dunno. I’ve still got the one with the wavy thin lines on the bottom half. I did get in shape in the summer so I could wear it without embarrassing the colours but I’ve put half of the fat back on since Sept.

I'm thinking that I may not suit stripey lycra in my present shape.

Nice. Folding? How heavy is it if you need to fold it up and carry it? Ideal for camping holidays especially in a motorhome or caravan, for jaunts around without having to get the car out I would have thought.

It's a Pro Rider E-Wayfarer, bought it new about 4 years ago for around £600, love it.

Heavy to carry but you can fold it up to get it into the back of a car.

Don't think you can buy this model new anymore but there are similar bikes available on the market.

15 mile an hour top speed (pedal assist) and a really good range on a fully charged battery.

My wife occasionally mentions she'd like an e-bike. Not a foldable one but she needs to be able to step through. Ribble do a nice one, just need a lottery win plus I'm not too sure I'd like the fact that she'd leave me well behind.

If your wife works, she could take a look at the cycle to work scheme, which makes bikes more affordable.

I have an ATB, which I'm looking to add a motor to, to make my own e-bike. In fact, this thread has given me a reminder, as I had forgotten all about it. Good time to do it with time on my hands.

I've thought about getting an e-scooter for the campervan. Not really enough room for bikes unless we hang them on the back doors, but that takes us into a dearer bracket for ferries, which soon adds up as we go Island hopping in Scotland.

Cycle to work scheme has increased its limits to cater for E bikes, still a lot of money I know but if it’s going to get used a great investment.

I’ve never really been a road cyclist but I have had some decent bikes over the years, I’m more into cycle touring bikes, I’m looking at one at the moment the “Tout terrain Silkroad” it’s a bit of a price but looks exactly what I’m after, I still have all my gear (regarding panniers etc) I’m going to go round the north cost of Scotland from John o’ Groats to Fort William over a 7-10 day period, I also like photography so it will give me plenty of time to take some great photos of the Sea/Mountains.

Looks like a really nice bike. I've never tried belt drive but I guess theres less chance of a 'mechanical' than with a traditional chain. I see its in the list of best tourers in cyclist. If you find it's too pricey both Cube and Trek do tourers, I mention those two brands because J. C Cooks are stockists for both.

Sounds like a great trip and I hope the weather stays fine for you. Take some great photos and maybe put some on here. We may need something nice to take our minds off other things.

Never heard of these bikes you mention. I have a 40 odd year old Raleigh Randonneur. Was the bees knees when I bought it.

Yes I had a Cube mountain bike from Cooks cycles a few years back, I used the cycle to work scheme with my employer, it was a good bike with decent spec on it, it was supposed to be £1100 but I got it for £1000 (the maximum for the cycle to work scheme) I would definitely consider a Cube again.

I’m looking at the north coast next year (due to the planning of it) this year may be uncertain due to lockdown etc but I will send you some photos not a problem mate.

That looks a nice bike Chris, I was tempted to go for the Oxford expedition custom made, but very expensive maybe in a few years when I know for sure it will get used.
How do you normally get all your gear up north? I was thinking about taking my bike on the train but not looked into properly yet.

I’ve been dropped off and picked up before HC, i’d happily do it on the train, it would need a bit of forward planning that though but easily doable mate. I like the look of that bike. 👍

Slightly off topic but did you buy a campervan or a van and do a self conversion?  I am thinking to do the latter when restrictions ease a bit

Ginny how much would you pay for a van like that, as it is in the video mate ?

In some ways I wish there had been electric bikes when I started work with a 5 mile each way commute across Grimsby in the 60s. But the choices were push bike or queueing for a place on the disease incubators. It was galling to see people sitting smug in cars dry and warm while I struggled soaking and sweating to or from work. As soon as I could pass my test as save up I was off to buy a 1959 Ford Pop in green to join the smug gang.

Just before I got the car I was sorely tempted by the previous incarnation of an electric bike, the moped. A mate was selling a nearly new one for the same money as the Ford Pop. A few weeks after I got the car I was coming home on a December teatime down Weelsby Road when there was an almighty bang. A moped rider had turned left out of Park Drive and front wheel skidded into the path of a car on the main road, a right mess.

That is what bothers me about powered cycles and scooters. I am sure the people on here know what they are doing and how to ride them but some get into the hands of people who don’t and the consequences can be disastrous. I have nothing against electric cycles but I do feel there should be some specific testing and licensing for these machines.

I’m looking at buying one but it won’t be till I receive my railway pension at 60 (I’ll buy it out of my lump sum) I was expecting a price of £40,000 for a camper so wasn’t far wrong, I know a friend who lives in one, I was actually speaking to a couple in Cafe Nero (Louth) around 2 years ago who sold everything and bought a camper to live in (travelling through Europe) and occasionally staying at their daughters in Louth, they loved it and seemed happy.

I'd also like to point out that I never go out on my bike without a helmet.

Look what happened to that young lad from Chapel St Leonards, such a shame and so avoidable.

Should be made law if you ask me.

E-bikes are a bit different now. Nothing like a moped. They are bikes with a small motor that assists the rider. They are limited to 25 kph (15.5 mph) and you have to pedal as the motor only assists and you can turn the assistance off if you want. Great for getting a fat bloke up a hill, they really took off in mountain biking but there are more and more road/gravel bike models, there aren't many bike manufacturers that don't offer some form of e-bike. I'd love one.

Thanks for that, my electric bike knowledge is sketchy. My last bike was a 60s Dawes Tourer!

Temperature was 55F here today so got in our first ride of the year - rode down to Long Island Sound and back which is a nice flat ride (unusual around here!) to start with. We have road bikes - I have an Il Massimo (steel frame) and my wife has a Specialized Ruby. Felt good to ride in the fresh air with the sun shining - its been a long and snowy winter.

I should have got out today but I've got the post winter motivation syndrome. I too have a road bike, a Cube Attain Pro (2020), and just about everything near me is flat, usually have to ride alone because of COVID. I do have a hybrid too which will get a bit more use in the summer when lockdown has been lifted, as my wife has one too and we can ride along the seafront for a few miles. I won't take the road bike anywhere near the sand.

On my daily walks, I've noticed a growing use of electric scooters along the seafront and cycle paths. A lot of them are being ridden by young blokes who don't give a toss and they go flying along way too fast with many people around. I saw a massive one today that had huge fat tyres and a seat, it was more akin to a moped and he was tanking along the cycle path toward the fitties. Someone is going to get twatted by one sooner or later.

There are also a growing number of young kids on electric carts, which are hoverboards (segway?) with attached wheeled frames. They are everywhere and can go at a fair lick. It's getting really busy with powered vehicles of various types and I have started giving it a swerve on busy days. You need eyes in the back of your head.

There are precious few walking/cycling routes around anyway without them getting clogged up by these oft times illegal motorised vehicles.

The provision of cycling routes in East Lindsey and North East Lincolnshire is appalling for an area that should be great for cycling. I would love to be able to go for a ride with the family without having to run the perils of the local roads and the local drivers. The roads you have to use are usually in a terrible state for riding on. Walkers don't have it much better.

One reason is that they would be starting from scratch. There are a number of councils in a better position simply because they have more stretches of disused railway line. Also NEL has little land to the south of the town boundary. That is down to Lincolnshire. Is there still a track down past the Boating Lake to Tetney Lock? We used to use that to get To black currant picking at Marshchapel in the 60s. As a youth I used to ride along the sea wall from Cleethorpes right up to Killingholme and Immingham can you still do that? God, was I that energetic?

Yes you can still get to Tetney Lock via the seafront cycle path, then a bridleway around the fitties, onto Newton Marsh Lane, or you can ride along Anthony's Bank from the yacht club, and go through a field to Newton Marsh Lane.

The seafront track to Immingham and Killingholme is still open to bikes and walkers. We walked it last summer from Pyewipe.

Fitties is closed down at the moment. The ones I saw were not hire stock.

The other problem is people on mobility scooters that can do up to 8mph. On the path, on the road and supermarket aisles. They are lethal weapons in the wrong hands.

It would help the cycling cause if cycle lanes were used when empty and available. I see many cyclists going down Station Rd in Waltham 2 or 3 abreast, sometimes in a 20/30 yard convoy when their is a perfectly unused cycle lane on the opposite side of grass verge. The track is split for walkers but most times I have been down their it is clear. Scartho Road is also the same with the cycle/walking track not used correctly by cyclists.

I do agree with you about cycle lanes with cars parked on them. It just seems pointless to paint a cycle track lane and then let people park on it. Then on the sea front I see walkers on the cycleway and vice versa; walkers on the route of the tractor train.

The whole situation is a mess and I can't see it getting resolved until a sever accident happens. People today are selfish and just care about themselves without a thought about what their actions do to others

I keep saying we should do that. But tour the UK first. Lots of places the missus hasn’t been. Lots by of places I haven’t been, but not so many. I’ve got the lump sum coming from my NHS days in under two years. I don’t intend to sell up and use the kids’ inheritance though 😄

We are woefully behind the more progressive European nations in this regard. I tend to stay off my bike now around here, because it's just too dangerous.

I’m pretty sure that those who plan bike paths round here (of which there are a lot to be fair) ever get on a bike. You might suddenly find yourself sharing it with pedestrians, or there’s a pelican crossing on a bend but you have to get off and cross the pavement to get to the button, or the path suddenly becomes a parking bay. Not surprisingly many cyclists stay on the road.

Sort of a catamaran style. It looks like it’s flying above the water. Seen him a few times and at first I couldn’t see the ‘pedestal’. Now that does look cool.

Can I ask where you fill up in the Grimsby area, I have a lpg car and used to fill up at the pyewipe roundabout  garage when I visited but they stopped selling it and couldn’t tell me the nearest place last time I was up there

We've only filled up once around here and that was at Barnetby Interchange on the way to the Humber Bridge. Think there is one in Railway Street.

I've definitely seen one on  Railway Street near the Suzuki garage
