It appears that this 'taking the knee' statement by some players is beginning to crack.  Crystal Palace player Wilfried Zaha came out the other day and said he would no longer take the knee, this was closely followed by the whole Brentford squad stating that they would no longer take the knee and the Bournemouth squad joined them in making the same statement yesterday.   Bournemouth captain Steve Cook confirms players will stop taking a knee before matches, starting against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday; "As footballers we want to continue affecting change in a positive way, but we also need support and want to see action rather than words or gestures."  Wilfried Zaha has reiterated his belief that taking a knee is "degrading" and has demanded players "stand tall" in the fight against racism.  I have also noticed in some other matches, that we didn't take the knee, will be interesting to see what people think of this.

In my opinion , If anything it’s having the opposite effect to what it was started for .

And no , I’m not a racist.

I tend to agree and just get irritated that Sky Sports feel the need (not a pun) to show clips of this before every highlights clip. Think what the players are saying is what’s the point when social media fail to take action, and are not subject to legislation, against racist abuse and the football authorities just provide the normal lip service of this must stop and do sod all else.

I agree with Zaha, it is nof only demeaning but also devisive and in my humble opinion has created rather than prevented racial tension.

Now then lads. As you don’t have to worry about the trained Marxists of BLM taking over the game, what are you going to worry about?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

It lost any meaning the second it was co-opted, neutered and then ordered from above rather than something organic. Still, sure this thread’ll attract a diverse range of opinions and will be completely different to every other thread on here discussing the issue 🙃

I agreed in principle with this at the start but it is time to move on as it has lost the impact of the action. I get annoyed with match of the day constantly showing it and saying the same thing everytime. Time now is to sort social media out as they just ignore the issue.

The clap for the NHS only lasted 8 weeks before been stopped, not been racist but I know which one I would sooner still support.

What a bizarre comparison.??
Fortunately it's the players decision who decide when to stop.
"sort social media out" is just a ridiculous statement, please expand???

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Tokenism at best now. I just wonder when the narrative will move on to the Rooney rule.

If you get a chance check out Matthew Syed’s book Rebel Ideas especially the chapter about the CIA. I read it and saw cultural diversity in a new much more positive light.

I see those evil Marxists at BLM have distributed the first £175k of the funds raised last summer:

- Abahlali base Mjondolo (£14,650) – a Black South African shack dwellers’ movement campaigning against evictions and for public housing

- All Black Lives (£5,000) – a Black activist group that helped coordinate last summer’s protests

- Acts of Love International (£5,000) – an African-Caribbean community centre offering support and activities for Black and migrant communities

- African Rainbow Family (£10,500) – a charity supporting LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers

- AZ Mag (£7,500) – an arts and culture initiative for LGBTQ+ people of colour

- B’Me Cancer Communities (£15,000) – a charity that protects the health of BME and low income communities

- Justice for Black Lives (£3,200) – a Black activist group that helped coordinate last summer’s protests

- Independent Workers of Great Britain (£15,000) – the UK’s leading trade union for precarious workers

- Northern Police Monitoring Project (£11,000) – a grassroots group working to build community resistance against police violence, harassment and racism

- Sistah Space (£10,000) – a community-based non-profit that supports Black women and girls who have survived domestic abuse – a community-based non-profit that supports Black women and girls who have survived domestic abuse

- Sindicato de Manteros de Madrid (Street Vendors Union) (£7,500) – a Spanish labour union for precarious street vendors, who are primarily from Black and migrant communities

- A Tribe Named Athari (£5,000) – a Pan-Afrikan, anti-colonial, youth-led organisation, centred around transformative justice and community healing

- United Voices of the World (£15,000) – A grassroots trade union for low paid, migrant and precarious workers

- United Family and Friends Campaign (£45,000) – a coalition of those affected by deaths in police, prison and psychiatric custody, which supports others affected by state violence

Still, all just virtue signalling eh. The difference these charities and organisations can make to people’s lives is immeasurable, unbelievable what can happen with a bit of publicity. Shame so many on here couldn’t bear the sight of someone kneeling down.

It was a powerful image when it was first done but now it’s time to move on from it, Zaha is correct. It’s had it’s day

What annoys me is individuals being highlighted when they do not take the knee, it shouldn’t be an issue, I think a few England rugby players didn’t take the knee a few weeks ago and the players where highlighted for not doing so, the FA, Premier League, EFL should come together and put a stop to it. It’s been going on since June, enough is enough.

Only four Scotland rugby players took the knee when they played us at Twickenham.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

As posted elsewhere:

"There’s no rule against “disrespecting the knee”. If a bunch of aging football fans wants to boo and fulminate against a player-led anti-racist initiative, and convince themselves that by doing so they are keeping their country safe from Marxism, then they should be free to do so. And everyone else should be free to make up their own minds about what is really going on.

But the players are the ones who are in control, and these protests can continue as long as they wish them to.

Mahlon Romeo asked: “When fans are booing a peaceful gesture to highlight racism, it naturally makes you ask yourself ‘why am I putting myself through this?’” Because what happened this weekend showed that Les Ferdinand was wrong: taking the knee is not just an empty gesture. It never was.

What the players have been doing has meaning and real power."

Enough is enough? It's had it's day? Time  to move on? I don't understand why it seems to infuriate people? Abuse on social media is now being widely reported and calls for such companies to do more to identify the perpetrators is happening. It lasts seven/eight seconds.

Why does it annoy you? I am not a fan of the Royals but wouldn't ever dream of booing the national anthem. Not suggesting you would boo taking the knee by the way. Listening to it for however long it lasts is not even an irritant for me. If I am at home, it just gives me time to put the kettle on.

They're planning to give it to their mates and people they went to school with. That seems very popular at the moment.

You forgot the 4.5 million dollars spent between July 2017 and June 2019 by the BLM Global Network on Left Wing Consultants, Travel and Salaries !

Hope this helps,

I understand that BLM planned to spend 22 billion on an app that found racists and told you you'd been in contact with one. But they decided it was a waste of money.

Here we go again.
If you're not pro BLM you're a Nazi.
Pathetic.

Interesting analysis,did you invent it?
Still waiting for explanation around why it bothers people so much & why they seem to be unable to ignore it ?

You seem unable to ignore people who are against it.

Surprised there’s nothing in there to pay for all the vandalism and damage their supporters have caused.🤔

I thought those who are against  it have suggested it seems a pointless gesture that really hasn't achieved anything other than pointless arguments.

Fair comment,thanks.
Will be interesting if anyone can explain why they can't just ignore it.
Seems strange to start another thread around it(have every right btw) when there were two existing ones running.

And so we've managed 5 pages straight out of the Daily Mail/Daily Express playbook....

When a discussion about race comes up deflect the conversation away from racism and racial discrimination and bring up BLM and Marxism.

And if you think I'm just a woke, lefty whatever - this week the government has been accused by a Judicial review of misleading us about how NHS contracts were awarded. Now go look at the headlines on the Mail and Express.

Enough is enough? It's had it's day? Time  to move on? I don't understand why it seems to infuriate people? Abuse on social media is now being widely reported and calls for such companies to do more to identify the perpetrators is happening. It lasts seven/eight seconds.

It doesn’t infuriate me I just feel as powerful image/message it was it is now time for proper action and not a eight second gesture at the start of a sports event.

Nothing seems to have changed the social media companies do not take it seriously, Willian has recently been abused and Twitters response was it will not stop people posting from anonymous accounts, so the problem will carry on, it’s giving racists a platform to abuse and get away with it. It’s the abused reporting it to the police the social media companies are doing nothing.

A Swansea player was recently abused on Facebook, the punishment for the racist who abused him, a limited time ban from using their accounts, these companies are some of the biggest in the world and are just not interested in stopping racial abuse.

Punishments need to be stronger, they seem to be no worse than a slap on the wrist and don’t do it again, it’s needs be stronger and tougher.

If people were as infuriated at racists and racism as they are about taking the knee and BLM there would be no need to take the knee or be BLM protests.

Hopefully nonsense will have stopped by the time crowds are allowed back in. Won't be a problem for town as I am not sure many, if any teams take the knee in the national league

It’s always about opinions and so forth but it is somewhat baffling that people are so vocally opposed to something which is being used as a catalyst for change.

There’s been a lot of effort put in by some folk to denounce this whole thing. Seems odd really.

The fact we saw people boo it was just bizarre...

Kneeling down has achieved nothing. Until the racists receive tough punishments nothing will change.

It hasn't served a purpose at all, taking a knee in supposed defiance has come as customary as a handshake before the game. Any meaning behind it has only been lost and if something is continuously dragged on pointlessly when it's clear nothing is changing then it makes it even more pointless.

I am fully supportive of any means to remove racism from the sport, but the Premier League started this when they hurried around the BLM movement, just as people claiming to support them began trashing monuments, causing havoc and vandalising statues. With BLM UK then aligning themselves to a anti-capitalist, hard left stance the Premier League had egg on their face, being a huge capitalist brand. It has continued to snowball ever since.

I think a lot of the booing and negativity around taking the knee stems from animosity in associating it with those who hijacked the agenda for political gain. Lets face it, most Football fans aren't hard left, and so gesturing before each game in a manor that has now been associated with a hard left group is never going to popular. Where as it's clear there is a racist element in Football, I don't think its a majority or anything more than just a few knuckle draggers at each club. It is a true shame for those who are trying to put out a positive message of equality as unfortunately the rent-a-cause factions in world politics will always seek to smother an agenda and use it as a vehicle to front their own ideas.

If any organisation would need rallying behind it would be for English footballs own "Kick it Out " campaign. Any objections to that would soon identify any mindless racists among us as a football community.
