Apologies if already posted but it seems we are all in for some extra security checks when we enter the ground this season.

When I arrived at the Lower Findus or whatever it's called these days for the Barnsley game, I was told by security that when the season starts searches will be performed on all people entering the ground and we will be asked to empty our pockets and place all our belongings into a basket for further screening. I am not sure if this means that airport style checks will be included and if not, why do we need to put our belongings into a basket?

Anyway, I can see chaos ensuing as people arrive at their usual time and face long queues to get in, especially as I would expect to see a reasonable crowd for the Derby and Coventry games. So the message is, get there early.

Ironically after being told this, I noticed a flare in the away end, so obviously not as stringent in some areas.

No issue getting searched from my perspective

Me neither but just to clarify, the point I was trying to make is that this will delay people getting into the ground.

If they are going to those lengths, carnage will ensue. I usually get to the ground at about 2.50, with lots of other people.

It'll be like Stevenage all over again. Missed the first 5 minutes of the game there after they had 2 or 3 stewards searching everybody in the vast queue before they were allowed into the ground!

Ah well. Just need to leave the house 5 minutes earlier, I suppose.

I think the point is that while we can all appreciate why this might be required it would be sensible if the club announces, promotes, pushes this message ahead of a game, which clearly wasnt the case on Saturday.

If they run several pieces on this over the coming weeks in the telerag, on the website, local radio, poster campaign etc then people can be aware and if they arrive late and miss the start then its their own fault.

Does this mean my son will need to empty his sweets into the basket before we go in as well ?
I'm all for extra security measures but where do you draw the line ?

Depends on how much you value human life really.  The world we currently occupy necessitates this level of security so we adapt accordingly, no one is saying it is fun but if the threat is real measures should be taken.

The positive outcome (or cynical, you choose) is that more people will get to the ground earlier and spend more money in the Trust bars.

Hope the stewards are receiving some training on how to tell the difference between a tampon and a flare.

Not a problem for me as long as they have enough stewards doing it and keeping the crowd moving.

Assuming this means they're employing enough female stewards to perform said searches on female fans? Feel that getting all fans to empty pockets is a little unreasonable and will create time delays.

Not a problem for me as I always arrive early.

When I got searched on Saturday an old guy in front of me was found to have a flask on him and he was allowed to take it in.

Also the Lower Young's bar has scrapped passes this season, so anyone can enter it now until it has reached its official capacity.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

If this happens you have to question whether the terrorists have won ? It's a 4th Div football match ffs . Are isis really looking at the fixture list and thinking oh yeah grimsby v Accrington let's bomb the fookers ? No way . It's just an idea from a jumped up safety officer with too much time on his hands . I'm willing and sure most others are to risk getting blown up at BP to not have the hassle of getting a search like at Stevenage, which is more likely to cause a fight between fans and stewards than some jihady who's got lost and ended up at cleethorpes

Maybe the club could define a "dont mind getting blown up" section at BP then just for you and those that object so badly to crowd safety !!   FFS.

I went to Stevenage...and a fair few others away from BP last season and have been frisked at almost all of them, a quick pat down is all i have ever encountered which takes about 15 seconds. Hardly a huge impact on my away day.

Complete hyperbole - lets keep a sense of perspective for goodness sake or the terrorists have indeed won. I bet they are having a laugh now seeing that 4th division football matches are now deemed worthy of "increased security" which is what they want - to intimidate us and our way of life. Anybody who wanted to blow up Blundell Park would be able to do so and checking on pensioners flasks is going to make no difference to that.

I think anyone in a suicide vest would just blow it up outside the ground if searches were going on, so not much point. The new tactic they have of running people over or stabbing folk is also something that could be done outside the ground quite easily, so if, and it's a big if, terrorists decided to attack us, a search at the ground is pretty pointless.

The searches could be more to do with flares and stuff anyway, rather than bombs, so are we sure what the basis for said searches are without going all gung ho?

I take a bag into every match. I contains drinks and snacks etc  for myself, my son and grandson, as well as scarfs and woolly hats in cast it gets chilly among other things.
It get searched most matches home and away, it has never been properly searched. The only time anyone has found anything was at FGR went they confiscated a plastic fork (Only to find they were giving them away with the Veggie Pasties at the kiosk.

There could have been flares etc in there, but on most occasions they just looked in the top, never were the continence ever taken out or moved.

I would welcome a more thorough search as it will not hurt me, but what others try and take in could..

It might not have bothered you mate but it did the 200 or so stuck outside who had to empty their pockets onto a table when the game had kicked off . Why should fans get to the ground 30 mins before ko if they don't want to just so some amateurish search can be carried out for hunting knives and 12 bores ffs ?

I'd quite happily stand in a section marked "non paranoid fans at a 4th Div game of no political relevance " if it meant I could roll up at 2:59 and walk straight in cheers mate . I'd even wear a jacket with a big bullseye on the back just to take the pi.ss a bit more .

Grimsby could easily become a target - in the aftermath of Lee Rigby's murder some twit tried burning the town's Islamic centre down! That sort of thing is remembered by extremists and those vulnerable to fall into extremism. That said it'd take a pretty idiotic terrorist to attack a pre-season friendly at BP. No profile, small crowd, small town. None of it suggests the world notoriety that they desire to me.

I'd quite happily stand in a section marked "non paranoid fans at a 4th Div game of no political relevance " if it meant I could roll up at 2:59 and walk straight in cheers mate . I'd even wear a jacket with a big bullseye on the back just to take the pi.ss a bit more .

What will they be looking for? Long-term wouldn't scanners be more cost effective and successful in finding weapons etc  than a bald headed black ops thug.

Londons the capital of the infidel British and some the scum bomber made the connection between Ariana Grande the infidel American scantily dressed devil .

The BP crowd ticks non of these boxes in terms of target I'd say making me feel very unfortunate if I was to be blown to pieces in mcmenemys suite

It is beyond parody. The government tells us to carry on as normal, don't  let them affect our British way of life and yet here we are having to empty our pockets before going to a 4th division game. The security at the Manchester arena must be a thousand times more stringent than at BP yet the terrorists struck there. Be easier to sew your pockets up.

Don't worry fans.

round , think someone had beaten him to it and
clear off back home.

This is clearly the club using the terrorist threat to continue their ruthless purge on anyone with a flask.
Watch out Dorethy Ackright. You are in their sights 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Over the top and unnecessary and unless there has been intelligence that the club has been made a target the club are allowing terrorists to score a win. The terrorists thrive on fear and intimidation and changing the way we go through the turnstiles is giving in to them.

Bit by bit freedom of movement is being encroached on. The Ariana Grande concert was a target because of young girls wearing what they wanted, including make up and dancing to music, something that is banned in most extreme Muslim countries. London was targeted because people where out enjoying themselves and drinking both of which extreme Muslims want to stop.

How far is this going to go, at Barnet they got rid of bins to stop terrorists from putting bombs in bins inside the ground.

Searches wouldn't have stopped the bloke at Manchester Arena since he set the bomb off in a public concourse outside of the ticketed area. These searches are a form of security theatre to appease the fearful and easily scared. A massive waste of time which won't have any impact on the already microscopic chance of some sad terrorist attempting to attack a bloody fourth division game. I honestly wonder how anyone in favour of these searches manages to cope with day to day life given its full of encounters with people who haven't been searched and vetted by some minimum wage security bod!

I thought you were going to say, we go to Blundell Park to NOT enjoy ourselves so we're safe.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Various religions wear turbans, such as Sikhs and Ethiopian Orthodox Christian priests, so not everyone who wears one wants to blow up or stop people from having fun.

Was this bloke wearing a sandwich board with "the end of the world is nigh" on it?

Perhaps our SLO could ask the club what new arrangements will be in place?

A complete f*cking pantomime. (Which will deter a few paying customers, obviously)

This is meaningless UNLESS all the kitbags of the visiting team are similarly inspected - 'terrorists' would soon spot
such a security loophole.

Has the club made appropriate background checks on the 'trained stewards' to ensure (a) they are not themselves
terrorists, and (b) would certainly refuse a large bung to skip a check.
This level of  security surely demands that every GTFC employee be checked with the police and CIA......

Does anybody seriously think that these measures will prevent a determined terrorist assault on BP?

But let's assume that BP becomes terrorist-untouchable.
Then the bad guys will blow up Freshney Place....where lots of people carry unscrutinized bags!

Any security expert will tell you that 100% security is impossible....so this is just a charade.

The search I had at the Barnsley game wasn't exactly thorough. Having such basic searches yet searching everyone is time consuming and doesn't exactly increase security. I think that these searches might actually be targetted at people they suspect of smuggling in pyro, booze etc and they are using the terrorist title to get people to co-operate.

Its an excuse to search people with the goods as you've mentioned.  Why they mentioned it was because of the Manchester bombings attacks to me god only knows...

Funnily enough this is why I logged on

Every single fan will not be asked to empty out their pockets onto a table as per Stevenage away last season. As always bags will be searched and robust random searching will take place.  Therefore no real change to last season. As we've got Stevenage away early on I will be contacting them soon to find out what they are planning so this time I'm not tweeting an hour before kick off and we end up with the same scenario as last time.

Yes there is emphasis from the police and other organisations to take into consideration terrorist threats for which I need to tweet about an app to report anything considered suspicious.  That won't specifically be with regards to Grimsby Town matches but for general self awareness.

Hope that clears things up.

If the stewards can't find flares then they are let off in the ground there's no chance of them recognising a bomb
