may have focused people's minds on the more positive aspects of being part of a wider community and also on the negativity of Brexit's anti immigration stance.
having said that there is a natural tendency, apparently, for people to alter their opinions in the few days before voting day.they tend to turn less gung ho, and start worrying about changing things and perhaps thinking that things aren't that bad as they stand. it's been seen in other referendum campaigns

Most people I know. North and South, working class and upwards have voted leave (or so they tell me). If it is not a very close run thing, the very little faith I have left in British politics will be totally diminished.

Same apart from it was Old Clee Church Hall and i  turned left, then right and voted to remain.

I don't pretend to be an expert on psephology but they are reporting turn outs of over 75% on council estates. This is quite literally unheard of. I've canvassed for years across Grimsby's estates and you are lucky to find one in three voters who are willing to admit they are going to vote. It would be a very very brave person who attributed this to people being fired up by the Remain campaign.
Locally I predict Leave will win 56/44. roughly in line with expectations..

I thought something similar although i'm going slightly higher 58/42...early declarations should prove interesting with Sunderland expected to be strong for LEAVE and Newcastle strong for REMAIN.

Sounds like farage is admitting defeat already. If it is remain then I hope the younger generations have voted massively in favour of remain. After all it's them that's got to live with today's decision

I'm touched...in my late 50s but touched all the same  

56%+ in Sunderland would be a good result for leave and 58%+ in Newcastle would be a good result for remain.

First result in- Gibraltar. 19,000 remain, 800 leave.

Guess they are not worried by immigration.

1st UK result Newcastle 50.7% Remain...very early days, but a poor result for remain.

Going to be very tight, i suspect Labour haven't been able to convince their supporters and Remain will need London and Scotland to see them home.

What a mess!!

I hope we can look back in ten, twenty years and realise that the public made the right decision. Because the next couple of months and years could be very uncertain.

Both sides now need to reunite, put our differences aside and be strong together...Britain can be GREAT once again.

I hope Northern England appreciate what they have voted for here. If industry and jobs are hit in the North because of this, the South is going to be the last to save us.

In respect its the southern areas largely that have helped the brexit result , that along with the lower turn out of the scots.
The fact that leave voters were very close in many of the areas that the remainers cast their vote.
I am certain beyond doubt that this great country can truly be GREAT BRITAIN once again.

Your views have very much come form a stance of ignorance. You have not realised what you have voted for and refused to listen to what the experts where telling you.  Well done for putting the British economy back 10-20 years, one from which I'm not sure we have the abiltiy to ever get back.

The nigh on 69.9% is nothing to be proud about but rather to be very emabarrassed about. This morning for the first time, I'm ashamed of the area I'm from and ashamed to be British.

What an absolute joke. I'm now of the opinion that 100% democracy is not a good thing. There were so many people that had no real idea what they were voting for and a referendum should never have been called.

Well I have to say I was surprised at the outcome...

I've been undecided all along...to be honest I'd have preferred it if we never had the referendum

Had we had a stronger opposition last year that didn't allow the Tories to take power with just 25% of the electorate backing them and their leader kowtowing to his backbenchers, then we'd probably not gone down this road

Don't get me wrong...I was wavering throughout this campaign because I do think we were letting the EU run rough-shod over us to some extent but that was the fight we should have had....hard negotiations to get fair representation, not turning away from it altogether

Anyway what's done is done and we've all got to hope that somehow, someway we manage our own affairs outside of the EU better than we have done within it

As for Divisive Dave / Calamitous Cameron...he had one job and unsurprisingly made a right pig's ear of it

Still I'm sure he'll enjoy his "retirement" from politics in the same way that other failed MP Bliar did...he'll no doubt be on the circuit selling his memoirs and making appearances at business conventions.

He certainly played his cards wrong. He keeps believing the polls and reacting to imaginary adversaries. He out of the blue announced he would not stand a third time because he didn't think he'd get a majority. He was obsessed with the UKIP share of the vote and did everything to try and claw it down, even though our voting system makes it impossible to win more than a handful of seats, and the worse case scenario was the Unionists as collation partners. Now he's ended up resigning, he could have had three terms they were there for the taking if he'd just believed in himself.

We are out--it,s no good going on why we should have voted remain. We all had our chance to vote and Brexit won---thats it. I am just surprised that Cameron jacked in so quickly. It must have been a personal thing. Some people just can,t stand to get beaten. That she devil of the 3 witches who gave Boris a tough time still wont accept she has lost.

I moved all the pension funds I have control of out of UK and European equities and bought large amounts of gold and silver ETFs in my SIPP. I only lost about 1% overall, I also made £400 betting on Leave, so my losses were not that great - so far. I'll definitely be buying more gold and silver over the next few months, both ETFs and mining companies, not just because of Brexit but also in case another global recession comes along.
