Considering how good he clearly is for the dressing room and how much the club means to him (and vice versa) this is great news. Perhaps he should only be used sparingly in the coming campaign but don't underestimate what a positive force he is in the squad.

Great to have him back, I too suspect this season may see him used more sparingly. A superb addition just to have at the club full stop though.

Once again Disley leads the way and is the first to sign.
I wouldnt be so quick as to write off Dis as a starter just yet.
I am sure there were a few last summer who said his legs were going and he wouldnt be a regular. Once again he was a consistent performer and a mainstay of the midfield.
He leads by example on the pitch and always gives 100%. Doesnt shy away even if he is not having a great game.
Hopefully the others offered contracts will follow suit soon enough.

If Disley's legs had gone as many times as some profess, he would be down to knee stumps by now.
Great news for me and one of a few old experienced heads we will need in the side.

A lot depends on how he has looked after himself.Body is a machine and the better you look after it better it will run.Remember reading Stanley Mathews autobiography and never touched the alcohol to excess. Attributed this plus all the extra training he use to do to the long career he had in the game whereas others were washed up well before time

I may be too optimistic, but I expect the others to sign - it's traditional for Disley to lead the way and I'm sure we will have a steady flow in next two weeks followed by new signings during June.

Just knew Craig would sign first - and he has been a first class player for Town.
We need a totally new, inspirational, young, cohesive, wide playing midfield next season at this higher grade (as we seem to have released some very good footballers that actually got us where we re now). Otherwise we're struggling.
Sure - long way to go in this re- building exercise (if offered players don't re-sign -in particular).

Turned into a Town legend 👍🏾
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Disley has looked the fittest man in the team all season he's cleatly put the effort in to stay in shape, just think of some of the fat lump midfielders we have had back in the football league. I'd like to say well done Dis you have more than earned your contract and I think he's in for a great season.

Leader. I recall watching him step up to take the first pen against Bristol Rovers, just knowing he was going to dispatch it.. I can't recall a centre mid that has scored us so many "important" goals over the years, hopefully he can continue to produce the goods when we need him to most, as he always has done. With better players around him I hope to see him arriving late in the box as he used to do more frequently than this season just gone. After crying on TV in a semi final... You've got to love the man. GTFC legend.

Good to hear but part of that maybe the adrenaline rush in a special one of game.Lets not forget he is 34 now not 24 .Brutal facts are there are probably players out there available to us now who can do a better job than Disley in that postion. I like the fact he shows a affinity to this club but its horses for courses. If he would have been retained by one of his former clubs eg Bristol Rovers he wouldent of been with us now. Loyalty only goes so far as players are concerned and they will want whats best for themselves at the end of the day

Don't get me wrong. I can be a sentimental fool with the rest of them, but I can be as ruthless as.....hmmmmm.....Paul Hurst. And yeah, adrenaline can help on those special occasions. Those younger lads didn't have that rush though. 34 is not so old these days plus with Dis we get the benefit of his experience which I think more than balances any minor loss of physicality.

Reason why I said what I said about his legs going was lets not forget he got released from Bristol Rovers when they were in league 1 back in 2008-2009.Ive seen him a few times this season and in one of the games looked one of our best technical players alongside Gowling among those who started.I remember saying back in October 2015 we should give him another deal as I was impressed that day. However since seeing him again later on in the campaign near the back end of this season when he played with Nolan I wasn't as impressed second time round.More than likely because Nolan was better technically and played with more energy.
A player getting released doesn't mean they're bad or their legs are going. I'd wager at least 95% of players at L2 level and below have been released at some point and there are various accompanying factors, not purely that they aren't up to the job.

The point still remains, nearly every player is released at some stage unless they are right at the very top. Even the players being signed by L1 clubs at the minute have mostly been released.

I can't see any reason why Risley won't play over 30 games for us this coming season, he's more than capable to hold down a spot in a league 2 side even at 34.We was just incredibly lucky to have him during our non league stint as I'm convinced he could have been plying his trade in the league over the last five years.

Great News!
Enough of this 'too old' stuff. The likes of Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and countless others were still able to perform at premier league standard well beyond the age of 34. So playing in L2 is easily possible for Diz given that he keeps himself in great shape.

True which makes football a bit of a unstable business to be in unless you are at the top.Remember a excellent article in the Spanish daily football newspaper Marca stating that a lot of clubs in Spain/Italy are part time eg from the 3rd tier down. And even their 1st division some players were still being payed around 60 -80 k some 3-5 years back.Hence its only in our game where there are so many clubs that players play full time.

I know and that would have been a concern for me given that it was Morecambe of League 2.Having said that did have a stint in the Portuguese 1st tier so from a early age did show promise but not enough to be retained. Hence will be interesting to see how he fares this season in league 2.I like Amond though. From what Ive seen a tidy player who is a good finisher.

I think you're looking at it far too simplistically. There are so many factors involved with a player's success at a club, not just whether they are good enough or not. Look at Paddy McLoughlin, undoubtedly a talented player who has won promotion from the NL being a key part of that team yet wasn't a success for Town. Doesn't mean he's not a good player. I have no doubt that all of the players we have and have offered contracts to are good enough for L2 and with the right additions and system in place, there is no reason we can't do well.

I feel though its all relative though.Granted there are other factors at stake eg a players mentality but at the end of the day you should let your feet do the talking.Having said that I value someones mentality more than their ability. You have both and your onto a winner.

Thats because they inexplicably played Amond on the wing. Morcambe's board is hilarious on Amond. It's starts off with "it's nice to see Podge getting some goals" but as the season goes on it becomes more and more a source of recriminations and anger.

Absolutely! Comes back to what I was saying to Rick, just because a player has been released from somewhere doesn't make them a bad player. Podge is a perfect example, not good enough for Morecambe but because they played him as a sub and out of position. As soon as he starts playing in his preferred position he shows how good he is.

Whilst I agree there are bad management decisions especially in the case of this one with Amond Iam still surprised though that Amond didnt show enough whilst he was playing as a striker(assumed he must of played there on occasion) to impress and nail down a position there considering the success he has had here. By and large though if a player has been released from a lower level club in the leagues I would still be concerned. Hence being released from Accrington Stanley is slightly different to being released from Sheffield Wednesday for example. But I accept at the lower level not so much at the top in this country where the money is eg champ and prem there are a lot of players with not that much to choose between them and things like mentality/Injurys whether a manager likes you or not all come to the fore.Just shows what a tough environment it is to play in particularly at lower league level

Tait, Arnold, Nolan, Clay, Amond, Pittman, McKeown, Disley, Toto, Robertson, Monkhouse have all been released from clubs at L1 level or below but all performed well enough to collectively get us promoted.

I reckon 2nd game Moosey. What about GTFC Zombies ala Town coming back from the Dead(Non League) for the first game - especially if the outfits are modelled on Alan Partridges efforts

Yes but you can always aim as high as you can and aim to do the best you can with the resources you have.Eg maximise your potential be it at whatever level of the game for players and management.

That was a surprise have to admit as he is a quality player especially at non league.Ill like to think he was in the minority though.Chances are it wasnt on football grounds though eg ability as at that level has it in abundance.Think it was more to do with the fact that as some Town fans have alluded to eg possible personality problems of the pitch

Maybe (just maybe) he was released because his style didn't fit with what the manager wanted to do. Can't wait for August.

You mean I misinterpreted this: "Reason why I said what I said about his legs going was lets not forget he got released from Bristol Rovers when they were in league 1 back in 2008-2009." If you didn't mean his legs were going, or that there were other reasons for getting dropped by Brovers, then you could have worded it better. Anyway, we're in the 4th division, not the 3rd, and players can add quality to their game which they lacked when younger. Reading of the game, authority, leadership, strength of character.
