One of the last times we played them at home was in the Buckley era,

Over 17,000 at the park saw us lose 5-1 ,

BUT

In the prevous 17 home games we had conceded only 4 goals,

Funny old game football.

Then drew at home to Chelsea in the next round when we should have beaten them but got beat in the replay - happy days.

I went to the Keerrr Ceee for the Chelsea game Mr Viv and have to agree its a fantastic stadium , along with Boltons Reebok where you get a great view wherever your sat - unlike Anfields away end which is shite.
We will be back in the league one day Im sure.

True, but it's like an Istanbul derby compared to the Ricoh.

Far and away the worst away day and atmosphere I've ever experienced at a Championship game.

This coming from someone who's been to Reading.

Best atmosphere in Leicester is on the Crumbie Terrace at Welford Road and Filbert Street was an absolute bear pit compared to the Crisp Bowl. I hate all the identikit midlands stadia - Walkers / Ricoh / Pride Park. But we've covered all this before, like most things in life (apart from deciding to go join the Euro), the Germans have got it right with their standing areas and far cheaper ticket prices.

Absolutely spot on.

The Crumbie Terrace sold out is a great atmosphere, had many a good afternoon there.

The Kop at Filbert Street (lower tier of the stand on my avatar for the unaware) was genuinely superb. I grew up on the terraces watching Premiership and European football and if it was half as intimidating for the opposition as it was fun for us, I can't imagine anyone looking to Leicester away very much. Chelsea paying a visit was always 'lively' if you know what I mean.

A part of our soul as a club died when we moved, might sound trite but it's true. Only a handful of atmospheres at the Walkers have come close, most of them in the first couple of years after we moved. Generally speaking, I look forward to away days at hovels like Selhurst Park far more than any new builds. There are upsides to new grounds, but atmosphere isn't usually one of them. Stoke are an exception but I daresay there's a bit of fairweather fan culture going on there, I've been to the Britannia when they were a mid-table Championship side with 15-16,000 rattling around in there and it was as dead as any other new build.

We need safe standing areas a la Germany if we're ever to recapture atmosphere in England, apparently Oxford are looking into having the fourth stand at the Kassam as a trial for safe standing and I hope it comes off.
