so we are losing a million quid each season. how do we cut that gap?

every red card we get fine that player 2 weeks wages that shall save a couple of thousand per red card. in the programme there is 28 pages of advertising we could make it 35 pages of advertising. put up the cost of hireing an advertising board. make the turnstile operators voluntary. i know that wont save a million quid per season but it is a start. who agrees and disagress? can you think of anymore or better ideas?

If the likes of Everton are skint, there is very little hope for a small team like Town.

Wrexham and Cambridge are two skint clubs, so it looks like we don't need to worry as we'll probably do better

I think they should make 68 pages of the programme adverts and put the price up to £10.

Each player should also have Young's tattooed on their forehead.

Stop appointing managers and then sacking them stop giving no mark players 2year deals when no one else would give them a week to week deal.

Let's say we have five red cards a year - that's 10 grand.

Let's say we print more pages in a programme (which costs more anyway) and get more advertising (which will cost more in terms of sales staff) that will make about £500 per home game that's 12 grand.

Aaron, go back to nursery and post something sensible when you've given it some thought.

No, the lad has a point. We need to generate more revenue so lets put up ticket prices to £300 a go, replace the programme with a copy of Dalton's Weekly and charge £50 for it, leave the catering at present prices but introduce a minimum purchase of £100 and cut the wages to £5 a week.

What could go wrong?

Thats the problem, we are paying out too much money to people who no longer work for the club.

In a season or two we should be able to break even.

Costs will definitely have to come down next summer if we're still a conference club (which is looking pretty certain now). Sadly I think the youth setup will go and the playing budget will probably be brought down to around the £400,000 - £500,000 mark.  There will probably be a root and branch look at all posts at the club to see if people like Croudson and Rodger are necessary.

Also, with gates of below 3,000 do we really need a 9,000 seater ground? They could close the main stand which would of course mean employing less stewards and turnstile people.

I bet quite a few people would do it for a free ticket. Not as though the club won't have any spare seats to give away.

How many administration staff is there? either get rid of them or tell them everyones getting put on mininum wage - Fiona Fenty as well, she can get tax credits to top up her wage if shes on alot, maybe she isn't.

Why don't they employ a few people on modern apprenticeships? £2.60 an hour, a good way for 16 year old school leavers to gain a qualification and work experience?

Times are hard, if we want this club to save money then sacrifices have to be given right in the heart of it.

Get local schools more involved with youth team setups, so we can scout around for potential talent? Does Grimsby Town even do this?

York City signed Adriano Moké from http://www.glennhoddleacademy.com/ loads of potential recruits from there.

I don't know if you're taking the mick but I'm serious about the above. The financial consequences of failing to go up next May will be bloody severe with the youth grants and parachute payments gone, and the fact that we may not have benefactors willing to underwrite the £900,000 losses we already have. We'll still have no TV money coming in (whoever negotiated that contract on behalf of the conference should have their genitals put in a George Foreman grill).

All sorts of things could end up happening to try to balance the books - scrapping the youth, scrapping FITC, getting rid of the goalkeeping coach, putting Cheapside up for sale, closing the main stand, ticket and merchandise prices going up 10%, playing budget halved.

So you seriously think that moving to a stadium with a capacity of 1000 which wouldn't even pass the safety standards for a 3rd tier non-league team is the way forward?

Actually, it would only cost half that because  the council have a scheme going that pays up to a half of the wages for 16 - 17 year olds. You would think local councillors with club associations would have been all over that.

If the club owns Cheapside, it might be a better idea to sell BP and develop Cheapside. Could never understand why it wasn't an option for a new ground. I'm sure it would be a more attractive site for a retail partner than Great Coates anyway.

As far as I know the club only leases Cheapside. I might be wrong though.

Even better if council own it. They can help us get it developed, and we can be a sitting tenant. C'mon Coun. Boylen, get onto it

I don't think it's council owned. I think it's leased from a local farmer or possibly Hedges Distribution which have their base behind the ground.

I read in today's paper that sperm donors (it was the Guardian, page 3 of the G2 supplement) could be compensated by up to £35 per donation a la Danish system. With a footballing squad of say 30, plus managers, physios, and those who work in the office, you could probably knock this up to 40. Twice a week you can donate, so that's £70 per person x 40 = £2,800 per week, or nearly £150k per calendar year. You may be able to get more by pleading that they are young athletes in the prime of their sporting lives. Maybe not..... Rope in a few fans as well and you can easily be looking at £0.5million annually. They could approach Bookers or the like to sponsor BP being renamed the Ham Shank Stadium.

Plus side for the players is that it will undoubtedly burn off a few calories, so helping with their prime fitness levels. With fans, losing that much testosterone on a weekly basis could probably make BP seem like an oasis of peace and loving. Would fans be so keen to sing "Who's the w@nker in the black?" at the referee though, knowing he may be a colleague?

This sums up many things wrong with this some people in this Town. Someone makes a point about looking for ways to save money and some miserable naysayer belittles the idea. Even by your own calculations he's 12 grand ahead of you in suggested savings.

I wasn't talking about moving. I think as long as we're below League One, Blundell Park consisting of the Pontoon and the Smith's is adequate for home fans.

Here's a suggestion. How about town make a stand and only pay the players what is affordable to the club. No-one in this league should be touching a grand per week. Yes, the standard might suffer, but i'd rather have a few Hearn's/Pearson's/Church's who want to be pro and take a chance than an old league player who used to deserve a grand a week but has dropped levels to stay on the same money?!

Also make contracts more bonus led to 50/50 depending on appearances/wins, goals, clean sheets, promotion etc Could even tie this in with attendances... Bonuses depending on the gates. E.G. Over 4,000 people = 10% bonus. Might seem a bit harsh, but players would want to attract people through by work in the community/attractive football.

LOL!

A brilliant, brilliant post.

As good a plan as has been implemented for several years at BP.
