Hagrid or Connor,

I don’t know you but I’m aware you post on here. Should you read this, stay strong and I hope whatever is happening in your life you get it sorted and come out the other side. All the very best and up the Mariners, of course.

Hagrid / Connor.

I’m not very good in situations like this.

In fact. I’m hopeless.

But 1878’s accounts have been filed, I’ve just found a pair of pants with taut elastic and I thought I sharted on a flight this morning, but it’s dry.

Big love UTM.

There's a great mental health thread on the Non-Footy forum, lots of insights.

I'm very open about my mental health but it's warming to see others be so open too. To the point that reading it felt cathartic. I say it from absolute experience that talking helps and problems shared are ones that are halved (at least!).

To Connor, or anyone else, just talk! I'll talk to you, others will talk to you, but most importantly we'll listen to you.  It doesn't matter what you want to talk about either, talking is the best medicine I've ever taken.

Take care Hagrid.

For what it's worth I have mental health issues myself, you're not on your own mate.

I don’t know Hagrid (user name) or Connor.  No idea of your situation but hear this young man.  Whatever the problem, despite how dark it may appear and how helpless you may feel, there is always someone who understands how you feel, someone who can share.  At a recent seminar I was honoured to witness a man from Grimsby giving a speech which touched me deeply.  I’m fortunate In that while Ive suffered low points, my guardians have brought me round.  I’m sure you have guardians too but please please also try https://andysmanclub.co.uk/ , seriously mate #itsoktotalk

Very best of luck

A hell of a lot of concern showed for Connor, from random strangers, shows how good humanity is at times! Also good to see Matt Dean getting involved also

Hope he is OK and getting the support he needs.

Life can be difficult at times, I had a difficult year last year with the death of my mother and step dad within 6 weeks of each other, if I’m Honest I struggled for 6-8 weeks after my mothers death, I was difficult to live with but I’m ok now, I talked to close friends and immediate family and that helped so much

Stay safe Connor and get the help you need mate.

I open the fishy up every morning looking for a new rumour, who’s the scapegoat this week or just to get peoples opinion on the last game, but reading it this morning gives me something different and lends a whole load of perspective.

You’re one of the better posters on here Connor (ok, that doesn’t say much!). We might not know each other personally, but you, me and everyone else on here has one thing in common mate. We’re all town, and we’re all here for you bud!

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Anyone have any updates or managed to check in with the dude to make sure he’s ok?

I’ve said for a long time, the real pandemic is mental health/suicide, particularly in men. There is support out there and as this thread shows, it can affect literally anyone, it has no prejudice but sometimes support can even simply be seeing messages of concern and support from random strangers, strangers who can empathise and understand.

This forum has taught me many times that you don't always know what's going on behind the scenes in people's life. I believe, thankfully, we are in a much more open and tolerant society when it comes to mental health. I hope Hagrid/Connor gets the support he needs and back to posting on here.

It’s really heart warming to see how folks on here pull together when one of us has a crisis. The banter might get a bit intense at times, but that is because we are all so heavily emotionally invested in GTFC. We care deeply and passionately.

Bottom line though is that I have come to realise that despite our differences, we are a sort of family on this board. Albeit perhaps a slightly disfunctional one,United by our shared passion. So held together whether we realise it or not by our common bond.

Get well soon Hagrid.

I do post some excrement on here and probably don't have the best reputation. But I'm not afraid to say I've opened up in the past and it feels bloody good. I also monitor the mental health post we have to see if there's anyone who does need a chat or a friend.

Anyway, enjoy the game today everyone. ATAW

On Friday he posted on Twitter a message that illustrated that he was safe with his family and receiving the help he needed.

He said he was coming off social media for a while.

Good luck to the lad.

It’s interesting isn’t it? In the 9 years or so I’ve been coming on here I’ve never noticed anyone shy of giving an opinion when they don’t like or agree with a post. Sometimes responses are respectful sometimes they make you wonder.

Should do away with them there should just be green crosses and no reds make the fishy a negativity free space (sure some would hate that )

And lets give you a medal for finishing last in the race         I do think this is a negative place to be at times but luckily most of us can just shrug out shoulders and carry on but it does annoy me how nasty some comments can be, and people should really think about how what they post can affect people. Hope Hagrid will be ok.

I wish we didn't need threads like this, but unfortunately there really is a mental health crisis. As I write this, a man has gone missing on the Wybers, with suspected mental health issues. I have attended Andy's Man Club on a few occasions and found it invaluable to my own mental health issues, that I have suffered for over 40 years. But now, in my fifties, and having worked with an amazing counselor, I really feel like I have come out the other side. I share this as there is hope, and despite the world at times seeming like a negative place, we can still find contentment and happiness. UTM.

You still can (Recent Reputation Additions) but it only informs you of who red crossed and green ticked you many weeks ago, no information on which post or why.

I’ve also wondered what is the purpose of the tick & cross thing, how does it add value to the board & its users?

I think just likes and the persons name would be a more positive thing. Years ago when the stadium petition was on the go, I signed up to every league and national league forums to try encourage fans from other clubs to sign, and quite a few of their forums was this way.  I usually just tick like and don't bother negative ticking, rather someone tell me I'm wrong etc, chances are they were right!

Edit: I like the gold star thing as well, for post of the week/month etc.

Only just seen this thread....I saw your tweet on Monday Connor about Town's win and gave it a like as it just seemed like me, someone else had had their day made by us turning over Donny Rovers

I didn't realise there was a bigger story.... hopefully that win and everyone's support for you from last week until now has made you appreciate that there is a very special bond amongst us Town fans and as low as you get ( and I've been there too many times too myself ) there should always be some hope that tomorrow might just be a better day

Hope that whatever your troubles are, you get some help from your nearest and dearest and that you know your Mariners' family has your back too...

Just try to be kind to yourself, take it easy and let's hope there'll be some sunshine after the rain.... life has it's ups and downs ( even more than GTFC have experienced in their history 😏 ) but we can get through whatever is thrown at us with the right support

Been pondering something for a while....... what about a 'fishy night' at McMenemy's?
We could all turn up wearing our user names on a T shirt or badge. Then all of us could then put faces to the posters on the fishy and then bash ten bells of excrement out of each other... 😂

It could also be for a local charity, with, say a £5 entry fee?

Been milling in my head for ages and really unsure to post this, but Hagrid's and other previous posts make me think, why the hell not 'cos we're all a long time dead!!

Thoughts?

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

I like that idea. I'm not quite fluent in the general opinions of each poster but I've picked up at times seemingly long running friction between posters who've been here a lot longer than I so I'm guessing it could get fiery at times, would the £5 each be needed for security?!

Much as it's reputation can vary from person to person I've generally found this a nice place to be. I was the appreciative recipient of a ticket to Leyton Orient from Sconeboy who couldn't go and then met Croxton through offering a similar gesture of goodwill by collecting a ticket for him for the Crewe game so I've had first hand experience of the community this is and how complete strangers will help each other out in the name of GTFC. I personally agree that it'd be nice to attach names to some of the people who share their views here.

Met a few posters over the years and we are all like minded with our love for town.

I think this is a good idea plus you could run a raffle and name cards to raise money for charity.

Les Brechin would go I am sure and his charity could be one to benefit from money raised.

I've obviously got alot of negative feedback on here but I've known/ met up with many of the fishy folk and each and every one of them are top lads (and lasses). 1 or 2 in particular that have gone way out of their way to help me in the past. Utm

It's obvious that there are many on here that suffers with some sort of depression or mental problems.

It's good to talk so don't be afraid to open up about your thoughts sometimes it might help to talk to a non family or friend.

If a poster on here says they will help if they can then take them up on the offer.

It's a bit like the fishy Samaritans branch

I have been helped in the past its a shitty world sometimes but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi,

Been at the game, hoping to go to Stevanage too, started on medication which been told will make me feel worse before it gets better, still struggling in the alone moments, thoughts and emotions are a bit shot to pieces but Harrison House are supporting me through that.

appreciate it all kind words and messages, in truth i cant wait for the season to end.

have not really logged on here recently and wont be doing for a while as ive got to make my self right again, this isnt one incident thats caused a problem, its years and years of not speaking, not expressing and not being myself.

hope we finish the season well

Keep going mate.  It's easier said than done but ride both the highs and lows, the rough and smooth.

Don't worry too much about the bigger picture, just focus on each day, even the next hour if you need to.  Huge step that your recognising the need to speak about things rather than let them get on top of you!

You'll find yourself, it will come!

Things can and will get better Hagrid  stick with it mate and hope you feel better soon.

A nice big win at home will make you feel great  . The players have three games to do that for you.
