Much More entertaining than we’ve had at home for a while.
Gave them both goals through poor defending and they did little else. They of course gave us one, our first a lovely team goal.
The penalty…. I wanted Gav to take it, Glennon got it, and it was poor. Really poor pen.

Crowd much better, Away support shite.
Lloyd battled away and pleased to see him get a goal, felt we could have had another pen when holohan was pulled back, but never going to get 2 pens in a game.
Frustration is my overriding  emotion, as probably just deserved 3 points but a point against League Leaders is a not to be sniffed at.

Hunt my MOM, best game since he signed.
Onto Southampton with 4000 others, show the same effort we did today, and we’ll do ourselves proud. Just dont go to pens😂

Our best home performance of the season, especially second half against a team that possibly expected to win.

Alex Hunt’s passing sublime in the second half and has to start at Southampton. My MoM with honourable mentions to Maher and McAtee.

Whatever Hurst said to the players at half time certainly did the trick as they came out and played much more aggressively in the 2nd half and to get an equaliser straight away turned the game . Midfield was much quicker to the ball and everyone seemed to up their game and nobody pulled out of tackles and considering the game coming up against Southampton they played with a passion. Don’t think it was a bad result against the league leaders and looking forward to us playing in the 5th round of the FA cup. Not very often we can say that. UTM

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! I'm not sure what Lloyd did to upset the referee, but he was fouled incessantly and I can't remember him winning even one free-kick! Penalised for a couple of non-fouls however.

I thought it was a pretty bizarre refereeing performance in general. He let a lot go which should theoretically lead to a more fluid game, but really ignored a lot of obvious fouls by both teams whilst penalising one or two for nothing. He did at least get his card out and book some of their players for the shithousery.

Otherwise, a good performance in patches and two well-taken goals from us but terribly sloppy defending for both of theirs. I think we were the better team so it's a pity that the penalty wasn't great (a nice height for the keeper). Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised when Glennon missed it.

Pleasing to see Hunt come good in the second half and hopefully he can push on from that performance.

Well, I got my wish and was treated to a proper game of football. Obviously gutted that we didn't get the win, but win, lose, or draw, the game was entertaining and had us out of our seats several times, which is how it should be.

We shot ourselves in the foot big time; gifting the opposition 2 goals, which has happened too often this season, and also missing the penalty, which I felt had a good chance of being missed, given how long the spot kick took from awarding to being taken. Their keeper is a bit of an expert penalty saver by all accounts, but Glennon made it easy by hitting it at a nice height.

As for the rest of the game, I thought Orient looked good in possession, made good decisions and looked a confident side all round, but we battled hard and kept them away from Max most of the time, which makes the 2 we conceded all the more frustrating because we created the chances for them. They finished them both well I have to add.

For me, I thought the draw was just about a fair result, but it's annoying that we didn't win the game all the same. Don't think it will make much difference in the long run, but it must give us confidence going forward which is a good thing.

Much to admire today and with the addition of a few players who can look after the ball better, and have better decision making, we can hopefully start to trouble the top reaches of the table in time. We also need to work out how to play against the spoiler type teams because we do seem to match the better footballing sides most times we play them.

Hunt had a great game and was my MOM, but a couple of others pushed him close. Maher also caught the eye for me.

All in all, a good, entertaining game of football

Better chasing and running in both halves for the attackers.

Backs still need to speed up when opponents are harassing them - several times were nearly caught out.

Hunt's passing in the 2nd half was both thoughtful and incisive. Glennon then started to put quicker centres in.

Emmanuel was pulled back on several.occasions but nowhere near as many as Floyd had to endure.

If Harry had seen McAtee square of him?
If Crocombe hadn't miskicked?
If Efete could avoid opponent elbows?

But... a hard fought point against the league leaders !

And now, the cup !!

Funny old season !

Knee in the back apparently.

Either way, you seem to have a downer on Morris and I noticed a few at the game are starting to get on his case. Is he the new boo boy?

Morris was fine when he came on. They did a good job defending against Emmanuel in the second half which really cut our options down that side but nobody had a poor game. I suppose you could perhaps say that Crocombe was poor because his kicking was all over the place once again. Not sure what has happened with him in this regard as I remember he was pretty solid last year, but he's been much more wayward in his kicking this season.

The good thing today was that that in the 2nd half at least it was entertaining but also there are some Town player’s hitting a bit of form.

It’s such a shame that we relatively gifted them 2 goal’s especially when we’d done so well to get ahead.

Clearly they’re the best side season to date and they looked confident and have belief. Some of their player’s behaviour was poor and they worked the ref from start to finish. Didn’t see some of the antics with our support other than their player giving it the big un to the lower after they’re 2nd. Though I noticed the class of Craig Clay who didn’t celebrate the opener.

Like I say a lot of Town players played well special mentions to Glennon, Maher, Hunt amongst a few others. I think also it’s becoming evident that as many players will be retained next season we have something to build on.

Hunt's pass for McAtee's goal showed what he's all about. Looking forward, passing for Glennon to run into rather than playing it to his feet.

First half...Orient looked like a top team, much better in midfield quicker stronger and better in position....
Still it took a fking horror show of defending for them to score though...3 maybe 4 wrong decisions before they scored.

Second half....well clearly a tea cup hairdrying chicken drumstick team talk....fired up faster all over...brilliantly worked equaliser , gifted second due to the pressure applied and suddenly only looked like one winner.......

Again their second came from a couple of defensive lapses but good finish all the same...

Penalty.....shite...the pre take ball argument set the tone...don't know what went on but that should be set in stone...if it was then Hurst Doig need to deal with it.
Should have had a second penalty really when Holohan was hauled down but the ref was never going to give 2 pens.

On reflection disappointing not to win...but pre match and at half time I think most would have taken a point.

Probably the best referee we have had at BP this season, let the game flow and didn’t get many decisions wrong and worked well with the linesmen and fourth official. Booked a couple of their players for mouthing off in the 2nd half but felt he was on our side. His decision for the penalty was immediate even though he was probably about 20 yards away from the handball.

Took D2 again, only her 2nd ever match after Hartlepool. I thought in the second half Orient didn't really have an answer to the pace and as has been said we gifted then their second. If that penno, or any of the chances we had in that period had gone in, well...

Was a great game and I'm happy with a point. We both fully expected a loss tbh as they don't usually concede many.

On the other hand, Coke was really crap last season.

Well I would argue that’s probably the worst league leaders we have had at BP in a long time, sh1t housing like they was Bromley from the first minute and a shocking support for a top of the league team. I thought Town did Ok considering the huge distraction of Wednesday night to come.

I thought the ref was awful. And the feigning head injury to stop play needs sorting out.

Can’t get into too much of a downer about the penalty. I’d have taken 2-2 and the second half performance all day. Still don’t know how they kept that shot from Morris? out.

Hunt was up for it from the whistle. Will be a hell of a player if he keeps that intensity up.

In short, thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's because max attempts immediate passes (as opposed to hoofs), as he has that ability on occasion, something we're not used to seeing after years of macca getting it steady and then hoofing it, as he most definitely didn't. Max takes the risk of a moving ball and the risk of a quick kick. Sonetimes it pays off, although not today, a couple of times in the first half it nearly did but was just beyond the town player. There are definite occasions it backfires though and today was one.

We’d have all taken a point when we woke up this morning but I came away thinking that Orient were beatable today - although it’s a great point regardless. A good entertaining game - a shame the crowd was down a bit. I’m really looking forward to Wednesday now!

Firstly, the ref was excellent.

Secondly, Hunt oozed class.

Thirdly, Orient were not the best opposition so far, that was Salford by a mile.

Great game today. Should have won, but entertaining nonetheless.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

The ref was better than average imo. He got most of the big decisions right (penalty, the yellows for the fracas in front of the Lower) but then gave some really pointless fouls that noone else seemed to see.

Why do opposing managers always say "when you come to a place like this" in a disparaging way?

Almost as if it's unthinkable not to roll us over and take the three points.

Fair enough. Although average has been a pretty low benchmark. Lloyd (who had a great game) was being constantly fouled/strangled by their centre backs. And there were two penalties we should have been given in addition to the one we were.

Depends on view and perspective I suppose.

Why do opposing managers always say "when you come to a place like this" in a disparaging way?

Almost as if it's unthinkable not to roll us over and take the three points.

To be fair, BP has a reputation as being a hostile place. I think that’s what they refer to.

Cos they’re a London team from the south coming north and still miffed that they didn’t get the London Stadium (West Ham)
Can’t believe they’re supposedly the best team in the league, we could have won that 3-0 gave them two goals and missed the penalty

There will always be defensive errors at this level.  Their goals were from very bad errors though.

Given the penalty save and other chances, we could have won 3-0 or 4-0 on another day.

Hunt did very well against top opponents, on a bobbly pitch and in a gale.  Imagine what he could do Wed on a smooth pitch against a team that will let you play?  Unlikely to be a physical battle either.

Hunt is still very young,  and looks as if he should be doing his homework at school.

He has pedigree for the 5th Round of the FA Cup.  He was selected for high praise when coming on a sub for Sheff Wed against Man City.

The referee was strange. Unpredictable.  Pleased he booked their players in the second half.  At other times their players were blatantly holding our players.  No freekick.

Yes he was quick to give us a pen.  But not another.

Enjoyable. Hunt put in the kind of performance that was everything I hoped he would be for us…now need more of the same from him. Lloyd was good, great energy and did well considering no protection from the ref from the manhandling. Can we sign Lloyds as a permanent in the summer - or will it be location location location again?

Don’t think the pitch is ideal for Max and some of our tip-tapping at the back. We conceded two Salford-fiasco like goals but the Os did one of the the same. They look a very effective if limited side that will punish mistakes and defend competently against the hoofball merchants in this league.

"Supposedly" the best team in the league??
13 points clear.
It was a 2-2 draw, they'd have took that everytime.
Odd analysis saying "if" we didn't concede & "if" we scored a penalty.

Hurst says he wants to play out where possible but you have to know when. Wellens said in his interview that in todays conditions don't turn back, 'put the ball into areas' and make them defend. He thought that it would only 'invite their press' to go backwards. Thought Hurst's comment was confusing and Wellens interpreted the conditions correctly.

Would love to know what our coaches say to Crocombe about where to aim his kicks and why we are in such a dither over throw ins. Goal kicks too often find opposing CB's and we have no urgency or movement at throw ins.

Thought the ref was ok and better than he’d been on previous visits, difficult game to officiate considering all the “head injuries” …. Twisting fekkers.

I think our goal kicks will always be picked off with sides who have tall CBs today, especially when the line up from is McAtee & Lloyd.  On the subject of McAtee why does he insist on hovering around the corner taker when we get one? He’s never going to be in the mixer but surely central outside of the box would be better?

Pretty sure it was the same ref we had v Bradford City and there is no doubt he lets the players “get on with it” and to be fair he’s pretty consistent so I can accept that. Plus the first ref I’ve seen give a foul throw for the player advancing too far down the byline to take a throw in.

Didn’t think we played very well first half and thought we were in for another dour game but even though we didn’t really get going we could have had a couple of goals when Clifton was clean through, but not the best angle, and Holohan totally miscontrolled McAtee’s pass when in a great position.

Second half totally different and the early goal got us on the front foot and in the end we should have won. Defensively we conceded two poor goals and we missed another penalty against a top side meaning the two we have missed have cost us home wins against the sides in the top two positions at the time we played them.

Still don’t think Clifton looks comfortable in the role he’s asked to play with a back 3 ( or five) but great to see Hunt play well and with Khan nearing fitness selection headaches increase for PH. Least I left BP with the glow of the second half and the knowledge that despite some of our weaknesses we should have beaten the top of the league who in reality didn’t create anything without our help.

It was Efete in the 1st half the Boo Boys had it in for, Morris was fine when he came on.
You seemed to have a huge downer on Coke last season as well Golfer.

Efete did well on one cross but was poor for both goals, stood off the scorer without attempting to block him and back peddled when they broke from Waterfall's poor pass.

I don't think Efete was much at fault for the second goal. It was mostly Waterfall's fluffed backpass which was the issue for that one which put us on the back foot. I can forgive him, however, as he had just taken a whack in the face and was probably still a bit wobbly.

No idea what Efete was doing for the first, however, as there was no attempt to close down the striker, even though he slipped, and he had acres of space to regain his footing, turn and put his shot in. It was a bit bizarre, really. Like we suddenly forgot how to defend.

Take a bow Alex Hunt. Always wanted the ball and used it more intelligently than anyone else on the pitch every time he had it. The “not tough enough” thing is a myth - he is tough enough but his game isn’t about being excessively tough. It’s about getting on the ball in tight areas and making passes others don’t see. When he needs to get stuck in he gives it a good go.

First time I can remember him performing like that since his first few months of the loan spell last season. Really pleased for him yesterday - thoroughly deserved MOTM.

I thought he could have done better for the first then again Max could have put his foot through it as well. Overall through Michee has been pretty decent lately and playing on the right of a 3 suits him.

For the 2nd I wasn’t sure what Waterfall was doing and I’m not sure he was either, comedy of errors from a defence that don’t seem to talk to each other at times, disappointed that nobody got closer to the scorer too.

Away from that seen the comments about Hunt and I agree he was excellent yesterday and put his foot in a bit more when required as well as used the ball really carefully which is what we miss. I’d expect both him & Glennon to be big players for us next season.

Let Crocombe take our next penalty. Can't do much worse than some we've seen lately.

Agree with comments above re Michee I don’t think he is a centre back as demonstrated by first goal yesterday .I like him as a right back and can see it’s a challenge fitting him and Emmanuel in but I fear he is going to cost us goals in a central three. Also harsh on Smith that he is being left out when he has the pace and ability to deal with yesterdays situations

I think Hurst likes the idea of his pace in a back 3, probably even more so against premiership opposition, yesterday he had a hand in giving away both goals though, especially the first. Also had some other dodgy moments one of ehich neraly cost us invthe first half. For me we can't be playing it around at the back and involving michee as he's too nervy in possession and liable to drop a massive clanger, we got away it the first time yesterday but not the second.

I like smith and he has a bit of class and is a good reader of the game, like invthe Solihull final were he intercepted and then set up the winner. He's definitely not as quick a defender as michee though and he has his own problems with concentration.

It's a difficult one for me, but I seem to think Hurst played him in the middle at the back against forest didn't he? So would think that's what he's likely to do.

I don’t think it’s a case of ‘having it in’ for him yesterday. Efete has had more encouragement than most recently after his pretty poor start to the season, people have been actively willing him to do well. Yesterday though he was very poor for the first goal and not much better for the second. Emmanuel is a huge improvement on him as it stands and I don’t think it’s long before Smith steps into that back 3.

I noticed that Orient did a job on us a bit in the 2nd half and stopped us getting Emmanuel in the game.

There’s clearly been a desire from the opposition to diffuse the Emmanuel threat, given the way he completely took the píss out Southampton. What that has done has made things far more open down the left.

Whilst we failed to exploit that against Harrogate, it was certainly fruitful yesterday with the first goal and penalty coming from that side, and the mistake for the second goal coming with their right back forced to go backwards.

I must be seeing different games to other people because I've thought Efete has slotted in really well at CB. Always surprises me how good he is in the air. Thought he struggled with the first goal but it was a nice finish.

The 2nd goal Waterfall should've dealt with.

Seems to be people are fairly keen to get on his case as soon as he makes a mistake, because his recent form has been strong and he's played lots of minutes in different positions.
I'm always a little cautious of stats, but didn't one of those Twitter data things have him as one of the highest performing right backs in the division?

I also think his game compliments Emmanuel's really well and allows him to get forward. I think he will start Wednesday as well, his pace will be vital.

All the more reason to use the Maher/Glennon partnership on the left. Maher seems comfortable and competent in attacking down the left with support from Glennon or visa versa. Give the opposition two wings to worry about as opposed to one.

Agree with this - Efete took a backward step on both goals yesterday, much as Crocombe's kick (for the first) and Waterfall's poor pass (for the second) were also significant factors.

I think Efete is a better wing back than in a back 3, he's just not as good as Emmanuel.

given that Efete is having his 2nd year as a pro and his first in the F.L. then I think it's fair to say he's a work in progress, compared to Emmanuel who's a seasoned pro and is obviously destined for a much higher level next season.

Said this at the time. He seemed to be all over the place for a while.

Looked well out of position when the move happened. Over to the left and quite far forward to his normal slot.

Their player hit the goal scoring shot from about where Waterfall would normally be.

I must have overslept. Did we beat Southampton then? Quarter final at last!

I was, of course, referring to our recent victory in south east Northampton. That said, I did have a very, very vivid dream of us playing at Spurs, away in the quarter final, the other night.

I was sat in a prime spot on the front row of the middle tier, though it had been constructed with blancmange, and therefore lacked the structural integrity one might expect from a £1 billion arena. We had Piers Morgan up front with Dr Karl Kennedy playing the role of mezzala just behind (I know that detail, because that was the specific directive given to him by Hursty in the Baton Rouge before the game), whilst I seemed to alternate between my seat in the gloopy middle tier and left back.

I didn’t manage to take note of the final score as Peter Gabriel needed me to help him fix his car at half-time which, believe me, took a good while since it’s hard to get hold of a replacement timing belt for a 1986 Saab 900 in the middle of Rotherham during lambing season.

Fortunately, a guy I worked with for a couple of months in 2008 rocked up with the necessary part and I made it back to the ground only to find it had turned into my house and my wife was in the bath doing crochet with Peaches Geldof and Dorien from 90s sitcom Birds of a Feather.

I can’t guarantee that’s exactly how things are going to pan out, but if you’ve got time to remortgage your house and lump it on a Town win on Wednesday night, frankly I think you’d be mental not to.

I had a feeling that is what you meant.

I hate to spoil your wet dream, Poojah, but it isn’t happening. Peaches Geldof is brown bread, for starters. I’m sure you’re aware of that, but it ruins the chances of it all playing out.

In future you should be very careful which mushrooms you collect when you go foraging in Bradley Woods. It's an easy thing to pick the wrong ones as I know from experience.

It was actually just some slightly out of date, artisanal cheese, but I don’t want to go down that particular rabbit hole as it’s one that’s almost killed this forum before and don’t want to risk it happening again.

Would that be the White Rabbit hole that Jefferson Airplane sang about?

Really enjoyable game and at last we saw the Alex Hunt we've cried out for since signing him in August.

Points made about Morris, I don't think he did anything wrong when he came on but it did change things.  Absolutely not his fault as he's a completely different type of player to Clifton, but we lost that drive and energy from midfield that Harry brings.  Morris is naturally more defensive and I thought we did sit a little deeper.

Hindsight is wonderful and sitting comfortably with it, you could argue it might have made more sense to bring Taylor on for Clifton and drop either McAtee or Lloyd into that area Clifton was occupying between midfield and attack.  But had we not fluffed up for their equaliser or missed a penalty, no-one would have noticed/cared.

Loving the overlapping centre-backs, gives us a real outlet that teams just can't handle.  How do you possibly defend against it?  Especially when it's coming down both sides.  It's not new and a lot of teams try it now, but actually having the players to do it is another thing.

It is quite bizarre how we've suddenly almost stumbled into having the players to play with three at the back with wing-backs for the first time - and inadvertently as well, because Hurst has never really seemed interested in this formation.

Very different to more recent times such as when Jolley decided to play this formation from the start of the season, without actually signing anybody to play the wing-back roles!

Obviously, we're not exactly tearing any trees up in the league, but it might give us a good base to start next season. Just need more precision in attacking areas as we continue to fluff too many openings with poor passes or crosses when well-placed.

Racking my brain as to who Jolley used in the wingback roles.  Luke Hendrie was down the right and fairly ok at it, worked well with Reece Hall-Johnson offering the overlap too.  Not a clue on the left.

I seem to think we played the first game of the season (a drubbing by FGR) with Clifton at right wing-back, with the glacially slow Dixon at left wing-back. Clifton was an inexperienced young lad back then as well.
