I'm sure we will be bringing in a new striker as is well documented, but i'm really intrigued as to how well Orsi will do when fully fit. Has a great goalscoring record in the conference.

Only for 1 season .Other than that 1 good season he hasn't done anything .Just have to see if he is good enough at this level .Obviously Harrogate didn't think so

I cant find my old post, but I know his captain at Maidenhead. He thinks Orsi is more than good enough for L2. Hes not the quickest and he's NOT a target man. He's an Amond type striker ,just a lot taller; my contact says he thinks that Orsi could thrive working off of Taylor.
Harrogate didn't work out. They started the season by playing 2 up front, which suited him. They then had a couple of bad results n the manager changed it to 1 up front. This isn't Orsi's game , so he was out of the picture. Ps he's hard working, a nice lad and certainly knows where the goal is, if hes given a chance and played in the right system

I think the issue is we’re all clamouring for the same thing, a 20 goal a season striker. From top to bottom it’s what everyone wants.

The positive is we create chances and crated chances against a side 4 divisions above. For all we know, Orsi could be that player, that player might already be at the club but we’ve not had a full squad yet. Who knows.

For me, the bigger worry comes when we don’t create chances, then your 20 goal a season man isn’t worth much…

At Lincoln the Cowley's demanded 30 crosses per game because they worked out that they score a goal every 26 crosses. Like you say, the creation of chances is the most important thing because without them, you don't have a chance of scoring. A striker kicking around the bottom end of a league scoring 10 goals a season might actually be more clinical than the 25 goals scored by the divisions leading scorer...

You have to create chances, simple as that. Granted, it helps when teams have a Mcatee type player who can play bang average for 75 minutes but pings one or drops a shoulder and boom! You’re in the lead or back in the game but creating is key and as you say, someone bottom end could be more clinical than the lad who scores a sackful but had had hundreds of chances.

This is when data analysis and so on becomes integral to the modern game, that close analysis and forensic critique of games and players can be the difference between going up or just missing out.

Orsi’s an interesting one in that, had he just scored 19 goals in a bang average Maidenhead side last season, I think we’d be relatively excited about him. As it happens, since then he’s gone on to Harrogate where he wasn’t given much of a chance (despite scoring 6 in 14, albeit only 1 in the league) and then been out on loan to Boreham Wood where he was pretty quiet.

What gives me a degree of confidence though is that he’s one of those signings that Hurst appeared to be particularly pleased about despite the obvious record to back up his confidence. Nolan and McAtee were another two who were similar in that sense, and they were alright.

Beyond that I think it’s still clear that we need another option in the Taylor mould, ideally a bit younger and a bit more free-scoring. The lad Kayode at Rotherham seems to fit that bill quite nicely, although I’m not certain where that particular name came from or how much there was in it. He certainly seems to be fit now at least.

I don’t think Hursty sees Taylor as his main man up front but more a useful option who will do a good job when asked, someone to bring on if we’re winning to win cheap free kicks, hold ball up and defend set pieces. Kayoude seems to have a better goal record and more mobility than Taylor, and is 12 years younger. I think the theory there’s some interest has legs because how quiet rumours otherwise have been. I’m wondering if we can get him in in, if Kayoude and Orsi might be a decent partnership. Playing a second striker will change how we play though, as it means dropping one of the midfield three who’ve played very well so far.

We're unlikely to get a player as good at linking play as Taylor who is also younger and scores more goals. That sort of player will be starting games in the divisions above.

We might get a younger and athletic player who can lead the line, putting themselves about a bit up front whilst scoring a few more. That's the most likely option (a Mani+ sort, hopefully). I still see Taylor starting games if fit, but having somebody to come off the bench after an hour and mix things up a bit could be helpful. Obviously, also able to lead the line if Taylor isn't available.

I don't think the issue with Town is creating chances as such.  It's about having people who make their own chances and/or create their own space.

On Tuesday we created loads and loads of openings that never resulted in anything more than huff or puff at the end.  But that didn't look to me that the player on the ball wasn't capable of creating a chance, more that they had no options to go to.  Or rather the one option they had was predictable and everyone else in the ground could read it, including the defenders.

Efete twice late on got to the touchline and went to cut it back but everyone in the box went for the same option, the back post.  All that needed was the defence to be a barrier between that pass and it's easily cut out.  We don't seem to have anyone who is prepared to gamble on their positioning and give teams something different to think about.

I think we've got the players that are more than capable of picking out their team-mates to create chances, I'm just not convinced the options are there.  You look at Amond, who was the absolute master of creating a yard of space for himself.  He never stopped mixing up where he would go.  In front of the defender, behind the defender, hanging about deeper than everyone else, going beyond the last defender.  He never stopped moving and mixing it up.  Good players find space, the better players create their own space.

Perhaps introducing Pepple 2nd half to stick out a long youthful leg to connect with all those crosses into the box would have been a better option than playing him 1st half where he was up against a very classy CB and remote from help. Taylor, from the outset, might have used his greater experience to hold up play whilst others arrived. Just conjecture of course, but who knows?
