The only thing I can think of when I read this horror story is how other directors allowed this to happen. And it seems to be successive GTFC boards as well.

Goodness me What a narcistic, nasty, vindictive and creepy man (ie: club shop) My way or the highway
Seems to me if managers/players don't take up the first offer and then try and negotiate they are toast Slade and Amond are two examples
Treatment of Macca is an outrage (although widely known)
Driving ban - was that arrogance or stupidity to ask if he could drive home?
A very thin-skinned, power mad and dislikeable man

I must admit when Part One broke I was stated as saying that I wasn't going to read it and that it should be left in the past! I was mistaken. It is very well written and researched. It should be read by all about a period of our history that I hope will never be repeated. Plus I almost feel embarrassed to be a supporter of a club that treated McDermott the way we did!

We have blood on our hands for allowing it for so long. He should have been removed from the club when we were relegated to the Conference in 2009. We should not have allowed him to continue, he should have been dragged out of the directors box. Happy clappers have a lot to answer for.

Still makes me smile thinking about my dad walking up to Fenty just after he was banned from driving and extending his hand like he wanted to shake Fenty’s hand & then placing a taxi business card in Fenty’s hand instead & walking off.

The reality of the Fenty years, as described in parts one and two reveal in truthful dramatic prose what he was like. Although nobody died physically, mentally we don't know, you do have to compare his antics like those of dictators Gadaffi, Saddam, and currently Lukashenko.

The fact too many fans swallowed the nonsense is astounding. In any other country Fenty would’ve never made it beyond the Buckley era...we’re not even close to the end yet...
Whilst the fans aren’t the reason we are where we are, some really do need to give themselves a look in the mirror and give their head a wobble...
Those who defended him, what was your reasons? Why? Have you changed your mind? Do you see this as yet more fiction against someone you admire?
I’m curious...

Let's keep some perspective, Gadaffi and Saddam were effectively mass murderers who ruled entire countries through fear. Fenty was a really sh*t football club chairman (and a bit of a c*nt, it would appear).

I never said he killed anybody, but according to reports he did rule by fear, which was the point I was making.

There was also the comment that “he’s not ideal but what would happen if he wasn’t here”. Obviously in our case 1878 have got a more effective plan to fill the gap than the Coalition did in 2003.

What a superbly researched piece. The incompetence really is breathtaking.
The independent ofcom conclusions into his spats with humberside really do show him up as having little attachment to reality when it comes to his thin skin. A toy town trump.
The amount of club money burnt through in repeated and woefully disorganised attempts trying to secure the stadium move is eye watering.

I hope the Newell era is covered in all the gory details including red faced encounters and tie-pulling. The whole thing would be a hilarious tale of a narcissist ballsing up everything he touches if it wasn't so tragic.

This is what I took away from it too. It appears that most of the money that ended up being paid back to him was money spunked on rubbish plans to get a new stadium. Why was he so desperate to chuck money at it to try and make it reality? Was he hoping to make money from it himself? Town Centre Living Ltd and Alex May would probably give some indication as to what his real intentions were. The galling bit is that the pr ick has had every penny paid back, money wasted out of the club because he's incompetent.

Funny isn’t it, whenever he spoke about things that caused the clubs demise; ITV, relegation, Covid, loss of income streams, the fans, player wages etc...he never ever mentions the thousands he spunked on a project designed only to make him cash or gain him some kudos...in all the thousands spent we are no nearer to a stadium ever being built...
It’s astounding people ever supported him, none of this is fictional or unknown, it’s all been out there and yet the naysayers, the Fenty out folk were the ones ridiculed at times, shot down and told to keep their fictional and cruel views to themselves...the man was being pilloried...

One thing was for certain. If you were a good player worth keeping at GTFC during Fenty's reign, you could guarantee your next contract offer would be a pi sstake.

You have to wonder what kind of reputation the club has built up among players during Fenty’s reign, and how many signings we lost because of it.

Wow just wow. Alot of things I didn't know about, some things I've forgotten about but what you can't deny is how incompetent he was. It's like he ran the football club like he ran like a fish factory.
Sooooo glad he is no longer around.

You have to wonder what kind of reputation the club has built up among players during Fenty’s reign, and how many signings we lost because of it.
And then add in what his penny-wise pound-thick ways cost us: (A) in performance (B) in extra players in to replace them

|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Another great piece by CA. Makes for great reading, but also disheartening how he was effectively able to continue unchallenged for so long. He may have been a complete disaster for the club, but he had an uncanny ability to get control and convince people he was always acting for the best interests of the club and Town.
Every paragraph points to a man with a Narcissistic personality disorder, a pattern of self-centred, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for admiration. Others often describe people with NPD as cocky, manipulative, selfish, patronizing, and demanding. Fenty demonstrated all these hallmarks throughout his tenure and the cost of allowing such an individual to run our club has been plain to see.

I feel this actually needs promoting on other clubs' forums. Mostly just to rub Fenty's name in the dirt but also as a cautionary tale.

Other board members, excluding the trust, were his men. Trust board members were tied up with company law about what they could say. Staff had mortgages and bills to pay or face unemployment. A bully knows how to manipulate to maintain his position.

That’s how I see it... I’ve said before, I work with a woman who’s dad worked close with Fenty in the early years of Fivestar, not long until he sold it to be fair...he used the word bully...despises the man and isn’t even a town fan...

I admit that I sat on the fence regarding Fenty until the day he invited a convicted criminal to Blundell Park last December.
I always knew that he was power hungry and a penny pincher but I told myself "at least we still have a club and he won't demand it all back at once."
Reading these articles makes me feel sick that we allowed this circus to go on for so long.

Said this years ago and got shot down in flames, additionally to having a N.P.D. I also think he had a saviour complex, which led him to get very frustrated when he was not seen as such.

Other board members, excluding the trust, were his men. Trust board members were tied up with company law about what they could say. Staff had mortgages and bills to pay or face unemployment.
A bully knows how to manipulate to maintain his position.
He managed to oust all of his opponents from the board so there was nobody left to question him as they were replaced by cronies. Quite scary when you read all at once how ruthless he was at getting rid of anyone who could challenge his ownership of the club or his stadium plans. We didn't even get to the manipulation of the trust and effectively forcing a vote in his favour to get shares and any power the trust had to oppose his decisions removed. When they mentioned the tour video Fenty did with how the staff react to him it says it all. The whole video is absolute cringe and nobody in the office looks like they want him near them.

Pretty clear why the club as been staved of investment nobody would trust him and be able to work with the man. Over the years I forgot all these little issues which resulted in our great club being the laughing stock of football. Looking forward to episode 3 even though it’s hard to read and brings a tear to my eye when I remember the great years before fenty

Just rewatched that cringefest of a video. The man doesn’t even know when the Findus was built.

I dread to think how long it took to research each of these pieces. Again, superbly written and so important that these things are documented.
Like others, I'd forgotten so many of the things that are mentioned.

| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

I genuinely believe that Fenty saved the club from going under in his early years - when the tax bill hit and HMRC refused our suggested repayment schedule he (and the board) pulled us back from the brink. I think we were very close to going under at that point. And as a result I was prepared to give him a lot of slack.
But he lost my faith as we so obviously stagnated as a football team, as we had a succession of poor managerial appointments, as we made decisions off the field that were just ludicrous and as he stomped around like a little tin pot dictator in a 'stadium' crumbling in front of us.
A little thing always rang alarm bells for me - how nobody could even correct his garbled syntax, awful spelling and very poor grammar when the club published his rants. He was either so self obsessed or everyone was so scared of him that public communication made him look as thick as pig sh*t and nobody would point it out to him.
I believe that this is the club's lowest point and we can only go forward from here.
Up The Mighty, Mighty Mariners.

Part one didn't get pulled, and so far Part two is still on the net. The only conclusion is that both parts are the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I assume part three will follow suit.

He can waste some more cash if he wants...let’s face it, he’s clearly wasted thousands of cash chasing his non existent vanity projects... Nothing in that well written article is fictional nor incorrect. Almost all of it is out there in public domain...

He didn’t waste a penny of his own money on the club. In fact he left with a £200,000 profit.

I thought JF could have made a gesture and said "sorry, I fooked up, here's the £200,000 I was gifted. Put it toward a promotion fight next season". Guess not.

That would take the humility and self-awareness to realise you'd done a bad job. John has neither of those qualities. Frankly, it's difficult to see what positive qualities he has as an individual.

Aside from hangers on and parasites the only person that I could imagine thinking he has positive qualities is his mother...anyone know if he gets on with her?

Ironic I guess...those of us who have only ever actually stated fact and then offered nothing more than an opinion followed by a question asking for some corroborated evidence perhaps have been talked down yet few facts are offered in support of (dis) honest John... Nobody ever answers the questions either...

The support for Fenty always follows 3 themes: 1. Saved the club financially 2. He's a supporter 3. Put money in that we (the supporters) didn't know about. There is never a defence for poor decisions, mistreatment of staff (John Macca etc), the abject failure of the club on the pitch, the way the infrastructure has been left to rot or the amount of money wasted on the stadium pipedream. I suspect that they are indefensible.

The more we find out though the more those points are refuted...you could argue he’s a supporter but a supporter that never made a decision for the good of the club...

I’ve said many times that I don’t believe any fan of the club would have led us to relegation out of the league, twice He maybe redeemed himself slightly in that we got back up the first time we ended up down there, but he didn’t learn from his errors. He could have been a saviour but he chose self promotion ahead of taking the club up the divisions. I’m pleased to see the back of him and his cheap skate handling of affairs that more often than not were conducted to spite the fans and didn’t help the situation we found ourselves in because of his vainglorious projects on the one hand and penny pinching on the other hand UTM

This has always been my argument, any fan would’ve learned from mistakes, not used the clubs website as a platform to release irrelevant and nonsensical statements and waste club money chasing a dream that ever found it’s way off the back of a homosexual packet. I’m sure one of his chums/supporters will argue he is a fan and he simply made mistakes but the evidence is there to prove otherwise...
