Well I must be a moron then. My first ever post on here was in about February that season calling for Hurst to dispense with Monkhouse and 4-4-2 in favour of playing Clay in a midfield three with Disley and Nolan. How poor were we towards the end of that season limping into the play-offs behind Braintree and how did playing three in centre midfield work out in  the return leg at Braintree and the final then?

I actually like Hurst as a character, but I do have certain misgivings about him managing us next season. Quite prepared to see how his recruitment is in the window and how we're going around Xmas before taking a view. Far more interested to learn of what plans Stockwood and Pettit have for the club going forward than whether Hurst is manager or not. It's far more important. Hoping to be excited and fearing of being underwhelmed at the same time. Not long to wait to find out.. but at least that charlatan Fenty will be out of the building, a major step forward for the club all on it's own..

I did say some...believe me, I’ve met fans that don’t like him for that exact reason.

I’m much more interested in how the consortium drive us forward and alter the club and so forth. In tiers it’s the only thing keeping me a tad postive...

'the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy'...well done Mozza

Im quite baffled by certain fans about Hursty, not all but to me the impatient ones. Some saying he isn't the man and should of never been re-appointed, some saying he's got one season and thats it.
Well heres my point of view on the matter. Firstly I think Hurst is possibly the best appointment we could of made, got us back into the league under a scrooge of a chairman, unfortunately jumped ship because of that scrooge of a chairman and not wanting to develop for a future of our club.  His move to shrewsbury and what he did there was more than incredible, Id of hoped to of seen him stay there instead of jumping to Ipswich but its the big lights and the next step to the big league. Skip scunthorpe and his move back here to reassemble a squad of chancers, un-fit and enough to fill a double decker bus in size, a squad that had no confidence, fed god knows how much bulllshit from the bristol idiot, and to try and do something with it which he clearly couldn't and I don't think your top flight managers could either. So a massive a draft of players required within a very short period who we all no once adapted with each other grafted for us and started playing football that was good to watch, a team with confidence and something solid looking.
Now our past problems have been managers, good players coming and going quickly in one door and out the other, no rebuilding and keeping hold of players that are good, no nothing. So Here we have a lifeline, a huge lifeline thats saving our club, it looks to be solid, positive and something thats for the future and will no doubt take time. So please lets all be patient, let the man build and progress, I don't expect wonders straight away from the new owners or hursty its all going to take time and for once in my entire life of being a town fan I feel good for whats to come. Lets get behind the club as a whole for the coming seasons and move as one! Its always been us and them (the board) a separation of anger and I aren't jumping the gun but the positivity Stockwood has shown seems genuine and this is what we need, all together one big unit the fans and the club UTFM FOREVER.

I think we've been patient for twenty friggin years !!!!!!!

I agree with Swansea Mariner in that I think most fans are pragmatic toward Hurst and just want to see a bit of stability and a hope that he can build a side like he did last time. One connected to the fans and one that was capable of beating Scunny in the FA Cup and giving Huddersfield a great game in the same competition, instead of the team he inherited, that had just gone out of the cup at bottom of non league Dagenham.

I'm pragmatic in that I'm not expecting us to go tearing up the National League, because it is a very tough league to win. Some fans think we should just turn up and win every game because we are the mighty GTFC.

It's sickening that we've ended up back at the bottom of the pile, but that's where we are and Hurst is going to be manager whether we like it or not, so let's just get behind him and the new owners and see what happens before we start calling for change.

As was pointed out, we have averaged a manager a season in the reign of JF and that included almost 6 years with PH. Doesn't that tell you something?

I don't think it's expectations as much as a minority have it out for the guy because he called fans out on their BS and doesn't constantly lick their bottom. There are legit reasons that people critique him for but some people couldn't wait to start ranting the second his return was announced like he drunk in their coffee or something. Being too cautious with subs to the point they are often too late to be effective is something I dislike but he didn't have one game before a couple of people started moaning. I think it's right that some people just dislike him because he said some mean things about fan attitudes and because he quit to take a job with a team higher up after getting us promoted out of non league.

Could see how much some of the same people loved it when Holloway started licking their arses and going on about how great the area is and how did that turn out? We are where we are and we have the manager we have so we'll just have to get on with it. Hopefully the takeover can go through for once and the manager will be backed along with the club rebuilt. There has been a culture in the club of accepting failure when it comes to how the club is run and cronyism in the boardroom and it'll take some time to remove the stench.

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

For me it's a fresh start. I've watched alot of his interviews and watched alot of our games. His interviews and the way he comes across is much better and I believe he's got us playing well and results improved (not enough obviously)
So in my head although he's been here before I'm giving him a clean slate and forgetting that previous 'love in'

Hanson injured.
Lamy a possibility but not really a striker.
Jackson - there is obviously something Hurst doesn't trust or he thinks he's too inexperienced. He could have played.
You'll recall one of our our strikers headbutted a team mate and made himself unavailable!

Who else?

And that would be the Matt Green who had scored 4 days earlier in a critical game when he'd been told he was playing DURING the warm up.

Miss Scunthorpe. Not a beauty pageant, just sound advice.

Criticising our line up at Exeter is a bit bizarre tbh it's clear we're down to the last men standing hence Green starting.
