Hurst saying something has happened with him that means he won’t play for us again. Said something about it ‘putting things in perspective’ and you never know when it’ll be your last game. Sounds pretty serious for him whatever it is and hope he’s okay.

According to PH interview, Joe has an issue that will prevent him playing for us again. Whatever it is, best wishes for your future Joe. Hope you’re soon on the mend.

Just shows when your slagging players off for their performance there be an explanation other then their crap and don’t care. By the way this comment is not aimed at anybody in particular as most of us are guilty of this during a season.

Sounds ominous, Hurst categorically stated you won't see Jo Bunney in a town shirt again....and he'd gone home and ended up in hospital?..the mind boggles, just hope that whatever has gone on is that he's okay, certainly as he's just become a new father...

Sounds a pretty horrific situation for him and his family whatever exactly has gone on.
Thoughts are with them all in these challenging circumstances.

Never been a fan of his but you don't want to hear stories like this. We don't know what happen but I would have preferred him to be here fighting for his place in the team.

I hope it's not all the rubbish said about him on here that has effected him.
We are all the same and have feelings some can just laugh it off but some it could effect their mental health.

Obviously i don't know what is wrong and I don't think it is right to speculate. But Hurst seemed genuinely concerned about him yesterday, he ended up in his hospital after driving home, Hurst said he won't play for us again, Bunney has since tweeted thanking everybody for the support after he receiving the news that he did and he also mentioned the news he has received is out of his control and puts everything into perspective. So I think it is clear it is very serious.

The serious sounding nature of this competing eclipses the fact he wasn’t very good.
Hasn’t his wife/partner/fiancé/girlfriend just had a baby too? Can’t be an easy time for them...best of luck to them.

I know we have disagreed on things in the past but I'm totally with you on this Skaface. Some of the cruel things said about Bunny on this site have been terrible. None of us know what has been happening in the background as regards his health and I hope some of those posters take a long look at themselves and reflect on this. They could have easily been in that same situation in their place of work. It's easy to anonymously slag off some player on here without knowing all the details about what is going on in the background.

Whatever has happened probably affected his form while he has been here. Posters should think before attacking players on social media, after all they are human. Some of the posts on here have been well over the top. No player has a bad game on purpose.

Let's not forget that his little 'un was kept in hospital for some time (maybe even a few weeks) post birth too, according to his socials. Can't have ben easy playing through that, but he still traveled over, pulled on the shirt and gave it a go.

It's the same thing in the Mayenese thread. People saying that he looks good now but he was labelled as junk when he first signed; Mansfield reject. No leeway given whatsoever for players settling in and finding their feet. Or maybe that they have issues going on off the pitch. Some of the stuff said about Bunney was embarrassing. He's played most of his career at league 1, yet the football pundits decided he was worse than a Sunday League player after a couple of games.

I suppose like anything, a bit of balance in both directions is needed. Clearly trolling a player on his social media is bad. Having a moan on a members’ message board is a bit different. Sometimes it gets a bit OTT, especially in the heat of the moment on a match thread. But not all criticism has been overstepping the mark. The fact that occasionally a player has something serious going on in the background is not a factor people can always be expected to have in their mind when making a comment. So I wouldn’t go the other way and start beating ourselves up and putting on the sackcloth and ashes. Just a light hand in the tiller is usually enough. A little correction to our behaviour now and again.

I equate anonymous keyboard warriors slagging off individual players with clowns yelling abuse from the stands in the good old days when we could actually go to games. I've never understood how they think they are helping the team they say they support when they do their best to undermine the confidence of their own players. It's never helped and it never well. The only team it helps is the opposition.

I have only ever shouted at one Town player, at Wembley Brodie said I thought he was a disgrace to the club. Day later he'd left. I wish Joe all the best. I thought he tried hard for a struggling team. He came here to help us fight relegation.

Reminds me of when I used to go with my old man in the late 80’s and stand in the Harrington Street corner. There was a bloke in there would spend entire matches abusing Kev Jobling. I don’t know what Jobling had ever done to him because it can’t have genuinely been a football grudge. I can hear him now shouting “You’re a disgrace Jobling”. Never seemed to affect the player. Happy times.

Joblin occasionally boozed in my local nice guy and decent player on his day, can think of a few players whose off field behaviour was far worse than his

I can go back to the late 50's and remember Mick Cullen. He always seemed to get a lot of stick from the Osmond end. I remember some guy with a very loud voice calling him every time he got the ball.

The life of a lower league footballer isn’t that great IMO. Can’t remember where I exactly heard this but the average career in L1&2 is 7 years . That’s not a lot when you consider the length of time invested to get to their first pro contract. And then you have to consider the actual amount of money they’re going to be on . Not that lucrative at our level . Then there’s the possibility of getting a serious injury whilst on a one year contract. And once the careers over , what do they do ? Most probably didn’t plan for this day when they were the star player at school and dreamed of PL wages that never materialised. No wonder there’s mental health issues. If my son was offered the chance to play lower league football professionally and I honestly thought that’s all he’d be I think I’d advise him to get a proper job and play NLS/NLN .

I'd tell my son to play in the League and spend his afternoons doing a degree mostly paid for by the PFA. Not really relevant though as he's currently doing a long stretch in Bamako Prison.

That's the best advice. I don't know wages now but in the late 80's I worked with a chap whose son played for Boston. He told me his son was on £200/wk then, plus he also had a full time job. Best of both worlds, carry out your ambition and also have a secure non football future.

When I was a kid, I have vivid memories of the one player constantly booed at home was Bobby Mitchell.
I can remember one match at home when he was eventually subbed, the whole ground clapped an cheered!

Just wondering, everyone is being nice about JB because of his problems that he is having. People admit that everyone was harsh on here and regret having a go and being nasty. Rightly so as there’s more important things in life than football. What about John Fenty? He has had more abuse than anyone. I haven’t particularly been nice about him either but isn’t it wrong to be so horrible to him too? Just wondered what everyone thinks in these days of saying what you think on social media without a second thought.

Not everyone was being harsh about Bunney. And not everyone admits it.
As fir Fenty, I’ve not seen anything over the top. Not aware of any trolling on Twitter etc. I also think expectations of reasonable behaviour are higher on municipal leaders and controllers of public institutions (especially when the person concerned fought hard to acheive that control). Different standard expected.
Also Bunney just didn’t do very well at his job, and as far as I’m aware did not behave in an unacceptable manner or hold himself up as better than everyone else.
Fenty by contrast made the infamous’my car cost a lot of money’ comment, participated if not led in a pub attempt to bully a journalist, and joined forces with a convicted fraudster and used his public office to introduce said fraudster to the council and public officials. His unacceptable behaviour has happened over a longer period of time.
So I’d say Fenty was judged rightly by a higher standard of behaviour and failed to fulfil that standard of behaviour to a far, far greater degree than Bunney.
So no, I don’t think Fenty has been treated unfairly. I won’t be wearing sackcloth and ashes.

Fingers crossed for him.
When I was a kid, I have vivid memories of the one player constantly booed at home was Bobby Mitchell.
I can remember one match at home when he was eventually subbed, the whole ground clapped an cheered!
Anyone else recall this?
I was there that night. Think it was Rotherham under Emlyn Hughes and they beat us about 4-1. Bobby Mitchell took a lot of stick in his time with us, but that night he gave the impression of jumping out of a couple of tackles and got battered by the crowd. I also seem to remember him flicking a couple of V's to the fans on his way off and he disappeared shortly after

Remember Wymark bundling him out of the way to score when Mitchell couldn't get the ball out of his feet. That said, maybe he'd not go in for 50-50 tackles, but I rated him. Yes, though he did have a stinker that night. Played in a successful team.

The Barratt stand could be pretty brutal!
There was one guy in the Barretts who every week, regardless of who we were playing, would shout out in a loud and gruff voice 'You're bloody rubbish number three!' He would occasionally vary this with 'You're bloody rubbish number seven!'. Loudest voice ever. What a legend. anyone else remember him?

George Kerr seemed to think he was good enough as part of a championship winning team, though I do recall when he was poor he was terrible but alongside Joe most Town players of that era would look average.

I remember it differently, or maybe it was a different game - towards the end of the 1980 season- when he was subbed late on and Kerr told him to leave the pitch at the opposite side to the tunnel so that he had to walk the perimeter of the pitch. He received standing ovations all the way in recognition of his contribution to the team that season. Must have been later on when he became a target of the boo boys.

Talking of Bobby Mitchell, I have actually seen him score, away at Rochdale on a Tuesday night. We were 2 down after 20 minutes, but we won 5-2. Those were the days!

There always had to be one player who felt the acerbic wit of the Barratt - Malcolm Partridge, Garry Liddell RIP, Bobby Mitchell, Kevin Kilmore, then later post Barratt - Phil Bonnyman and Scott McGarvey (deserved it). Who was it in the McMenemy team, - Hickman? Czuczman?, the latter certainly wasn't one of my dad's favourites...

One of my earliest memories of going to town was Scott McGarvey trying to get at a fan in the lower after he gave him a load of grief 😂

Talking to Graham Rodger once about the old Barratts. He told me he was frightened of the Barratts and would try to keep away from it, and he was a Town player! I think that Town players knew the unique nature and what it was all about being a Barratt stander and accepted it as part of the Blundell Park 'experience '.

Yes, I was there. It was the game where the crowd changed ends at half time! Honestly.

Before my time, but my Dad used to talk about him. Said he was one of the best town players ever.

Graham Rodger wasn’t a Town player when the Barrett Stand was still there. Doubt he was even playing professionally then.

So why don't they just stick to the facts.

Bobby Mitchell was always first name on the team-sheet, as was Mick Cullen and Mike Hickman. Just like Henderson at Liverpool, Stiles in 1966, you need players to get and give the ball.
Ron Stockin wasn’t a bad player but he wasn’t quick and his goal scoring record was like LJL’s..

I could be wrong, but it’s not a medical problem for Joe Bunney. Could be his wife or child. Doesn’t make it any easier, but strange that something happened so seriously so quickly.

Whatever the problem is for Bunney, be it illness or personal family issues, its a private matter for him and his family alone, and none of our business. Hope the lad gets things sorted.

I remember Bobby Mitchell getting booed frequently. Not helped (for som unfathomable reason) when he went out with/ or married Mandy, the daughter of a senior Town manager at the time. Maybe Commercial Manager?
Mike Hickman was never the most talented player, but he always gave 100% and was very athletic. (Would never have fitted in with the Spurs team playing in the Europa League then).

It's a knee injury, he posted a picture on instagram of his knee which looked like it had been operated on the other day. Dunno why there's such a weird omerta surrounding it all.

We’re talking about people giving their opinions on players.
I'm saying people should mind what they are saying when they do not know what's going on in a players private life.

So long as it’s not personal abuse and doesn’t involve trolling or otherwise invading someone’s space, what’s the problem with a bit of criticism? I’m sure you will have criticised performances without knowing what’s going on in someone’s life off the pitch. People can hardly be blamed for not knowing if something really bad has happened, with serious stuff being relatively rare. I dare say you’ve criticised other members of this board without knowing what’s going on in their lives. It’s normally not a big issue if not over the top.

I see where you are coming from but given town have over 40 players/management so how are we to know about their private life before commenting. All we know is what we see in a match or hear on RH. If someone has a serious personal problem in their life and it's commented about then it's wrong, but if a comment is made and their is no previous knowledge of a players personal problem then it cannot be wrong.

If you look back at my posts, I think you will very rarely see any unwarranted criticism of anyone, especially not the players. There may be one or two, but I'm fairly confident there won't be many.

I think you're getting your players mixed up there mate. Graham Rodger didn't sign for Town until long after the Barrett Stand was rubble and dust.

Well I would say that criticism of the players performances this season is not unwarranted, just as you feel you can make criticism of others were it is warranted.
