I've just stumbled across an old Tony Adams 'philosophy', the great philosopher that he is. It all rests on the concept that a team is not a 'team' until you have seven.
Not seven alcoholics, gambling addicts, drug addicts, jailbirds, defenders or anything else you'd associate with 1980s or 90s Arsenal, but seven players who'd be prepared to fight the opposition in the tunnel.
I think he may have a point. It's not about seven hardmen, but players who would be prepared to stick their neck on the line for their team mates and the team in general.
Who of our current lot would be piling in, and who would be slinking off to the dressing room pretending to notice? I certainly can't get to seven, I'm not sure I can even get to three, which I think is yet another depressing hallmark of the absolute travesty of a squad left behind by the deceitful one.

If we start following Tony Adam’s ideas we are more foooked than I thought. It’s not trench warfare it’s a game of football.

You're right there, the last time I saw that "7" in our squad was our promotion winning side, a spine of players who always looked up for a battle and would throw themselves in front of anything. Oh for the equivalent of Shaun Pearson, Gowling, Dizza and Amond on the pitch now

This. We have a lot of strength and character in most of the above. There are so many different ways to show leadership and courage. Bravery can be shown by taking the ball and looking for a through ball rather than a 10 yard easy pass. If it doesn't come off, having the balls to try it again (Nolan). Putting your head where some might not put their feet (Pearson). Keep making channel runs knowing the ball might not come and that by playing a hold up or link game your goals return might only be 1 in 4 (LJL). Often frustrates me when we (myself included) whoop and cheer when someone makes a hard challenge, knowing full well it was 80/20 likely to be their ball. Think that is a very British thing IMO.

At one time we had 2 players sent off during a game for fighting each other. Many of the current squad could not be bothered.

It's fair to say that current squad have no spine, I don't mean as much in terms of "testicular fortitude" but more around the strength from keeper through defiance and midfield right up to the players leading the line..
