Well it's arrived, my GTFC facemask complete with filter pad has finally found its way from China to Ipswich via Blundell Park
Needless to say it doesn't fit the elastic is too short - my ears must be much further back that those of the average Chinese fella and its not possible to cover both the mouth and nose together
Otherwise perfect, another triumph for GTFC 'stuff' (at least the apron fits)

Was thinking of buying two, anyone else on here got one and had a problem?

Today's the day when we have to wear masks in shops but most of the big stores are going to allow you in if you don't wear one in case you are exempt (why they can't ask I'll never know , is it profit based ?)    Let's see how many selfish, clever shites take advantage. I for one am not going to go into a store that doesn't enforce it. I want this virus to be eradicated.

What will you do if you walk in, get your shopping, lined up ready to pay and someone lines up behind you without a mask? Quiz them? Demand to see medical exemption?

I think the first week will see some leniency then things will tighten up.

I reckon we'll probably see the worst in people resurface again, harking back to the days of fighting over bog rolls and abusing supermarket staff. A kind of battle in the aisles between the maskers and anti-maskers.

I'll stick with my online supermarket shop I reckon.

Unfortunately the only way mask refusers are going to be 'encouraged' is via other more sensible shoppers. Shop staff won't be enforcing it (like bus drivers) and why should they take all the excrement they would inevitably get. The police have siad they can't (or won't) enforce it either due to shortage of numbers etc  so all those responsible member of the public who speak to the mask free twits will get all the flak and I'm sure in many cases violence.

I wasn't trying to be flippant,  but if you approach random shoppers who are maskless who knows their medical justification. Should the general public be expected to police this?

No of course they shouldn't, but sadly the responsible members of the public are the only ones who will.

As for medical justification 99% of those claiming it will be lying fornicators just like the young fit  twits who were shopping in 'old farts hour' claiming 'its for me old sick Nan'

If they aren't gasping for breath and / or carrying an oxygen bottle they should be wearing a mask IMO (and yes, I am being flippant but that's how I feel about it)

My wife is a extremely vulnerable to Covid.  She still doesn’t go out and will not be going in any shops etc in the next few months.

I think everybody should be wearing masks where stipulated.  If some people can’t or won’t wear them, then they should stay away from shops.  Use other shopping means, eg on-line or get family or friends to shop for you.

This approach would simplify matters for shops and other shoppers.  No mask - no entry.

It’s another law that simply won’t be enforced and with the constant contradictions throughout all of this folk simply don’t know if they’re coming or going and some have just given up.

People can have whatever view they like but this is just another thing to confuddle folk.

The words horse, stable door and bolted spring to mind.

I can't argue with your final remark but people claiming they don't know the guidelines or are confused is just a weak excuse. It was even clarified yesterday (which was a 'grey' area) that you need a mask if you just nip into a sandwich shop. The rule says shops, banks, post offices et all how much clearer do folk want it? Then of course you've got the tossers who understand perfectly well but claim wearing a mask impinges on their human rights What balderdash!

I haven’t heard folk talking about imposing on human rights but folk are genuinely baffled as to why this being made compulsory now.

I mean yesterday I saw several folk wearing washable masks that haven’t seen a washing machine in their life, somewhat counterproductive really.

I don’t really think that it’s that important to be wearing them at the moment when the virus has seemingly slowed down , gone to ground in the main . I think the decision to get people wearing them now in public is to train the population in readiness for the autumn when it’ll be back with another major wave . In a few weeks it’ll just be the norm to wear a mask and we won’t feel like freaks walking into the shops with them on .

I have been shielding as I have chronic asthma, I have had to go to the hospital for x-rays, blood test and scans, due to struggling with my breathing and feeling fatigued.
Had to wear a mask, it did not make my breathing any different when not wearing a mask. I guess I would be exempt from wearing one, but will be wearing a mask, when I go out.

Just use your town scarf. It is a face covering, it does not need to be an actual mask. That is what I am going to. Will probably result in a few (socially distanced) conversations in Peterborough coming up!

Local mayors, politicians and Health Authorities have to be straight with their communities now. Infection rates by post code in some northern and midland towns are 6 x the rate of North East Lincs. Housing density, multi- generational living and sweatshop factory conditions have been mentioned but it boils down to human behaviour patterns in the end. People in low to zero infection rate areas will not comply with masks for long if real progress is not made in the spike areas. My South Yorkshire region has a long way to go compared with Cleethorpes. There are areas of Sheffield where I would not shop, fill up the car or walk a dog and others where I feel much safer. Local radio could announce latest figures street by street but those holding the data are paralysed by dogma.

I think we all know the reasons for not sharing data/correct data and the like.

Haven’t there been legal challenges to the lockdown in Leicester?

The handing of power to local council to enforce lockdowns is simply another way of central government shifting responsibility which is consistent with their approach throughout. They’re now doing the same with face masks. If they’re so important it’s 4 months too late.

People can try and say that it’s been made clear why and where but it’s easy to see why folk are just sick to death with it all. Wear one. Don’t wear one. We can enforce it. Police won’t. So on and so on.

I’ve seen folk wearing material masks that haven’t seen a washing machine which negates the point. There are people using disposable masks all day when the people that make them and professionals say they have a limited time frame of effectiveness.

Then we have those who simply won’t wear one. We’ve those begrudgingly wearing one. Then we have the potential for the public to turn on itself (government will be loving that) and then multiple shops etc making clear statements that they will simply ask but not challenge because , understandably, they realise it’s actually putting their staff at risk and isn’t their job to enforce the law.

All in all, as with the whole thing, it’s a clusterfuck.

Anyway, back to GTFC masks, I’ve heard several folk saying they’re on the tight side. Could it be the material? Are the designed for people with tiny heads?

And why can't some people have the decency to dispose of their face masks responsibly FFS, it's not asking much is it.

There's been stories of birds getting tangled up in them.

I got a couple of the town masks and they are a bit on the small size but it seems to be a regular thing with football products. I tried to buy some boots recently and a size 10, which normally fits came up tiny. I ended up buying a pair of 11's which fit fine?

Yeah, a similar thing happened to me. I bought a M GTFC home shirt (Lotto/Europe’s Food Town) in 1996 when I was 15 and I tried it on this morning and it’s so tight on me you wouldn’t believe.

It was somewhat ironic that on the same day masks in shops became compulsory, the ONS released statistics that 9 out of 10 of us live in localities that have had no new cases of infection for over four weeks, a situation achieved without the compulsory wearing of masks and largely since the relaxation of distance rules.

So what is the aim, save the economy or ten out of ten? Shoppers in my local Tesco yesterday were all good little citizens with their masks on though there were at a guess 50% less of them than on a usual Friday morning. If that is going to happen places like  Freshney Place will lose a lot more shops.

On the GTFC masks, mine fit alright but they are very warm to wear especially indoors and easily fog the glasses. One other thing, it can be hard to tell what people are saying. In the chemist I had to drop the mask so the assistant could understand clearly what I wanted and though there is a funny side to a lot of this, a pharmacy is not the best place to have misunderstandings.

I actually saw some entitled twit today pretty much refusing to speak so simply waved their arms for the cashier.

I noticed a large amount of people literally take the mask off the moment they’d paid. It was definitely not being imposed in shops etc like Spar and so forth and you can go to the cinema and not have to wear one.

Quite frankly the most bizarre thing.

Side note; do motorcyclists have to remove their helmet as per normal?

Irrespective of how long they are worn they protect other people. IF someone has been exposed to the virus on to the mask then they are less likely to protect the wearer the longer they are worn

We sat outside Parkinson's cafe earlier today and saw quite a few people going past on the buses without masks on.

Don't worry if you look in the Telegraph on a Monday at the usual  photographs taken on a Saturday night and see all the twits hugging and squeezing together at the tables in all the bars down Seaview Street, you'll soon catch up

I have the same problem with my 1994 Diadora/Ciba home shirt. Is this what they describe as the Italian position?
