Artell said he'd be back in his interview the other day.

Looks like a backs to the wall defensive performance ahead. Let's hope we can manage to play a little more football tonight and let's hope that Wimbledon are as inept in attack as FGR!

Balls.  I'm still stuck at work in a conference call... missed the last tube that would make it in time,

However, got iFollow on at my desk so this conference call can go on as long as it wants now.

We're playing well though, and looking better than Wimbledon at present

Very good save from Cartwright. Their centre halves seem to be getting away with murder on Wilson, constantly holding him with two hands without getting penalised.

This referee is dreadful. They can rugby tackle our players and be awarded free kicks in the process and hand ball it in the area and get away scot free.

We’re biased but thats not a pen. You’d be fuming if that was given against you.

Interesting as I’ve not been too impressed by Thompson so far.

Mullarkey remarkably looks a different player. Clearly he’s most comfortable in a back three and as the right centre back.

Great first half from town , looking lively and well up for this tonight.
You could easily swap league positions with these and no one would know the diffrence.
Cmon town, let's bring them 3pts back home

A very decent half of football from Town there. Not loads in it, but Town the better side on balance. Their only chances have been decent, but speculative efforts while we really ought to have scored at least one. Cartwright’s had a marvellous half, mind.

As an aside, we’re getting fúck all out of this ref tonight, so if we’re going to get something, we’re going to have to do it by our own steam.

Watching this with my newborn tonight - she’s got a 100% win record so far so hopefully we’ll win it to keep that record up.

All told we were pretty good. Pitch is claggy, not much quality on show what there has been has been from us. Defensively we look well organised. Is it me or is Cartwright commanding his box much better?

We look so much better with two up top. Rose and Wilson aren’t a pairing I’d particularly fancy if I were the average League Two defender.

Definitely should have been a penalty when Wilson hit the bar. The defender was all over him and nearly ripped his shirt off.

Wilson impressed me Saturday , same today - deserved a goal for that instinct strike . Great for Rose to have some help up there - I wonder if there is anyway Wilson would give it another go next season because you just know if he leaves (like Orsi) he will go somewhere else and bang in a load of goals .

This game shows what can be done with standard organisation and effort in league 2 .

Aslong as they play and give the same second half I will be happy

Decent performance, unlucky not to get a goal from Rose's opportunity and Wilson's shot against the bar. On the other hand couple of good saves from Cartwright and a very good cross taken.

If it stays like this I'd be happy

Decent 1st half. I think we've been the better team, even if they have had the better chances. 10/10 performance from Cartwright so far, he's been rather commanding in the box, he's come for corners made 2 great saves looks a different player today.

I think one of our midfield 3 needs to play a little bit more of a 10 role and not to be quite as defensive, all 3 have dropped a little too deep and Wilson and Rose are slowly becoming more isolatednas the half has gone on. Same can be said for Harry who started alot higher up the pitch.

Refs a bit excrement, but not game changing really. He's giving us yellow cards for fouls he's not even blowing for when Wimbledon do it. As for the pen, I thought Rose might have been hacked down, but that camera angle makes it a bit difficult to see. Certainlu wasn't a hand ball, hes on the ground and has no odea where the ball was.

Overall, a decent first half and hopefully we can push on second half, pinch a goal or maybe two and get the win.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Wilson’s holdup play is some of the best I’ve seen in ages, he’s unbelievably strong for his size.

The pitch is borderline farcical, not a lot either side can do to produce any quality.

I think Town have performed really well this first half, probably one of the best 1st halves this year We're unlucky not to be in the lead and a great half for Cartwright. There is now some team spirit in there and fighting grit. I'd hoped for a draw before the game but the Dons are there for the taking.

Just repeating what the commentator on iFollow was saying......

Looking at numbers they do average 7800....

Out of interest, I saw they beat MK dons this weekend.

Look at the 90th minute goal.... I wonder if the ball boy is still alive?

We were talking about this in the Upper on Saturday  he plays as if he's a foot taller and broader than he is and appears to be more than happy to put himself about.

I’d be tempted to move Clifton into midfield, with Smith coming on at wing-back.

I’d be tempted to move Clifton into midfield, with Smith coming on at wing-back.

I’d do that too. Just don’t rate Green. Wouldn’t take Gav or Thompson off. Would throw Obikwu on for the last 5-10

Andrews was below average again and his stats bore that out - https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/matches/grimsby-town-vs-afc-wimbledon/6iai4hl?player=1135681#4203654

53% pass completion
4 duels won / 13 lost
0 tackles won
5 times dribbled past

Those are not good stats for a central midfielder

Wilson violently headbutted in the area yet still no penalty for town. Don't understand how if you misjudge a header and plant your forehead into the back of an opponent's skull it's viewed as an accident, whereas if you misjudge a tackle and injure an opponent it's a foul?

By fuk this ref is so bad.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Thats the correct rule. They were in possession so they get the ball if the ref wasn't giving the pen

Great defensive performance tonight. very happy with a point. Central midfield is still an issue for us as there's no quality at all in there, but at least they all put in a good defensive shift in our own half.

Well battled from 1-11. Dug in, and ground that point out.

Robbed of a stonewall pen but 1 point closer to safety. Proud of them tonight. And back to back clean sheets too

Good point. Well earned. Tharme and Cartwright can fight over the MoM trophy for me tonight.

excrement ref was excrement

Subs probably should have been made earlier maybe.

Wish we'd push up just a little more, we sink deeper and deeper as the game goes on, we need soneone just to just drag them out a bit.

A very hard earned point but we seem to have a bit of resilience back which is great to see. A bit concerned about the mobility of our midfield but Thompson now looks quite decent on the ball and it’s a shame he’s not a bit fitter.

Must say one of the poorest refs I’ve seen this season which is saying something!

Great point that, never really looked in doubt. Cartwright MOM. That’s the most composed performance I’ve seen from him personally (although that one in injury time was a bit scary). Win Saturday and should FGR lose it’s near enough safety IMO.

Another performance where we don’t look anywhere near a relegation side, I’m also more convinced than ever that the majority of the squad aren’t the absolute wasters they’ve been portrayed to be either.

Great point. Positives:-

Another clean sheet, we have a few recently which is a really good sign.

Very handy to be picking up away points at teams in the top ten

That's a win and three draws in the last 4 away games. Suggest we are very capable of picking up a few more good away results.

Now a 7 point gap to FGR, a better goal diff and still a game in hand.

So I think we can get a win at Sutton and sink their boat well and truly. And, if as I suspect Walsall do the business  at FGR at the weekend, the table could suddenly look very rosy indeed. Very tough fixture for Colchester too.

My panic attacks are starting to get less frequent.

Great! Two games in a row with clean sheets! I think I can get used to this. Cartwright was great tonight, but most of the players fought hard. 3 points against Sutton now and we will be well pleased.

I think DA will more than appreciate the job done by him, but won’t single out a player necessarily when the whole teams performed

But he did. His job is to stop conceding goals and he did. He certainly pulled off some good saves but that's what he is expected to do.

Absolutely made up with a point tonight. Another solid performance from the side.

It's noticeable how many away games we have drawn this season and had good opportunities to turn a fair few of them into wins. We could be well up the league if we could just get a little more ruthless. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could have won tonight and at Morecambe, not to mention plenty of other examples I can think of.

However, can't complain at the last three performances, which have gone some way to eradicate the memory of the Donny debacle.

Point or three at Sutton will do nicely now.

She's still held on to her record!  Well done that young lady!

Interestingly, we’ve lost fewer games than Notts County in 14th, and the same amount as Gillingham in 9th, who happen to be out of the play-offs only on goal difference. It just so happens that we’ve drawn more than anyone else in the division (13).

Should have mentioned in my brief comments how impressed I am with Tharme’s performances after a shaky debut he’s looked very good and seems to have helped Rogers return to the type of player he looked in that first half a dozen games.

Someone with a degree should know that it is not mutually exclusive. If you can talk about a player missing a chance you can praise the keeper. Simples.

It would be churlish to dismiss a great away point but, as you say, the inability to convert so many decent away performances into wins is frustrating. It shows that we didn’t recruit enough quality in the summer.

Who’s fault that is is another matter.

Totally agree,  his reading of the game is excellent, he snuffed out a number of breaks tonight by knowing when to go and when to stay.  Decent on the ball too and not slow, and that throw is useful

It wasnt so much the Hollywood saves that most keepers seem to be able to do, it was the bread-and-butter crosses that he came out and caught easily which gave me a lot more confidence in him

No more? Away from home against a top half team, under the cosh, only 21 and after several hammerings it would have been easy to say 'yes, his saves were top drawer and he should take confidence from his catching of crosses tonight.'

Have you heard a Liam Rosenior interview? Strikes a really good balance between honest appraisal of young players and stating what is expected.

If Cartwright had made the same number of mistakes as Holohan it would have been a cricket score. May as well do away with post match interviews if they are only ever couched in terms of the whole team. 'The lads done well' or 'we were miles off' seem good enough for 14 red crossers already!

455 actually, me and a mate blagged our way into the Cherry Red box, with a fantastically motley bunch that included Gareth Ainsworth, Jah Wobble and Ben out of Cornershop.

Edit:-  Having just seen the OS post match interview on Mariners Player Artell did compliment Cartwright on his game and current form. Perhaps JT got his interview earlier than usual before DA had time to collect his thoughts. So all good.

Just 4 survivors from the season's opening game! And some of them in different positions.

Match 1: Eastwood, Mullarkey, Rodgers, Maher, Glennon, Clifton, Hunt, Conteh, Vernam, Rose, Eisa
Match 2: Cartwright, Clifton, Mullarkey, Tharme, Rodgers, Hume, Holohan, Thompson, Andrews, Wilson, Rose

The common factor was 0-0
