I thought Obikwu was on international duty……..unless he got a Lightning back to Binbrook?
Artell said he'd be back in his interview the other day.
Looks like a backs to the wall defensive performance ahead. Let's hope we can manage to play a little more football tonight and let's hope that Wimbledon are as inept in attack as FGR!

A very decent half of football from Town there. Not loads in it, but Town the better side on balance. Their only chances have been decent, but speculative efforts while we really ought to have scored at least one. Cartwright’s had a marvellous half, mind.
As an aside, we’re getting fúck all out of this ref tonight, so if we’re going to get something, we’re going to have to do it by our own steam.

All told we were pretty good. Pitch is claggy, not much quality on show what there has been has been from us. Defensively we look well organised. Is it me or is Cartwright commanding his box much better?

Wilson impressed me Saturday , same today - deserved a goal for that instinct strike . Great for Rose to have some help up there - I wonder if there is anyway Wilson would give it another go next season because you just know if he leaves (like Orsi) he will go somewhere else and bang in a load of goals .
This game shows what can be done with standard organisation and effort in league 2 .
Aslong as they play and give the same second half I will be happy
Posted by: toontown, March 5, 2024, 8:39pm; Reply: 74
Decent performance, unlucky not to get a goal from Rose's opportunity and Wilson's shot against the bar. On the other hand couple of good saves from Cartwright and a very good cross taken.

Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, March 5, 2024, 8:40pm; Reply: 77
Decent 1st half. I think we've been the better team, even if they have had the better chances. 10/10 performance from Cartwright so far, he's been rather commanding in the box, he's come for corners made 2 great saves looks a different player today.
I think one of our midfield 3 needs to play a little bit more of a 10 role and not to be quite as defensive, all 3 have dropped a little too deep and Wilson and Rose are slowly becoming more isolatednas the half has gone on. Same can be said for Harry who started alot higher up the pitch.
Refs a bit excrement, but not game changing really. He's giving us yellow cards for fouls he's not even blowing for when Wimbledon do it. As for the pen, I thought Rose might have been hacked down, but that camera angle makes it a bit difficult to see. Certainlu wasn't a hand ball, hes on the ground and has no odea where the ball was.
Overall, a decent first half and hopefully we can push on second half, pinch a goal or maybe two and get the win.

Wilson’s holdup play is some of the best I’ve seen in ages, he’s unbelievably strong for his size.
The pitch is borderline farcical, not a lot either side can do to produce any quality.

I think Town have performed really well this first half, probably one of the best 1st halves this year We're unlucky not to be in the lead and a great half for Cartwright. There is now some team spirit in there and fighting grit. I'd hoped for a draw before the game but the Dons are there for the taking.

Wilson violently headbutted in the area yet still no penalty for town. Don't understand how if you misjudge a header and plant your forehead into the back of an opponent's skull it's viewed as an accident, whereas if you misjudge a tackle and injure an opponent it's a foul?

Great point. Positives:-
Another clean sheet, we have a few recently which is a really good sign.
Very handy to be picking up away points at teams in the top ten
That's a win and three draws in the last 4 away games. Suggest we are very capable of picking up a few more good away results.
Now a 7 point gap to FGR, a better goal diff and still a game in hand.
So I think we can get a win at Sutton and sink their boat well and truly. And, if as I suspect Walsall do the business at FGR at the weekend, the table could suddenly look very rosy indeed. Very tough fixture for Colchester too.
My panic attacks are starting to get less frequent.

Absolutely made up with a point tonight. Another solid performance from the side.
It's noticeable how many away games we have drawn this season and had good opportunities to turn a fair few of them into wins. We could be well up the league if we could just get a little more ruthless. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could have won tonight and at Morecambe, not to mention plenty of other examples I can think of.
However, can't complain at the last three performances, which have gone some way to eradicate the memory of the Donny debacle.
Point or three at Sutton will do nicely now.

Interestingly, we’ve lost fewer games than Notts County in 14th, and the same amount as Gillingham in 9th, who happen to be out of the play-offs only on goal difference. It just so happens that we’ve drawn more than anyone else in the division (13).

I think DA will more than appreciate the job done by him, but won’t single out a player necessarily when the whole teams performed
Someone with a degree should know that it is not mutually exclusive. If you can talk about a player missing a chance you can praise the keeper. Simples.

It would be churlish to dismiss a great away point but, as you say, the inability to convert so many decent away performances into wins is frustrating. It shows that we didn’t recruit enough quality in the summer.
Who’s fault that is is another matter.

Totally agree, his reading of the game is excellent, he snuffed out a number of breaks tonight by knowing when to go and when to stay. Decent on the ball too and not slow, and that throw is useful :)

It wasnt so much the Hollywood saves that most keepers seem to be able to do, it was the bread-and-butter crosses that he came out and caught easily which gave me a lot more confidence in him

He’s right . Cartwright did his job . No more , no less . It’s the standard he should be at every game
No more? Away from home against a top half team, under the cosh, only 21 and after several hammerings it would have been easy to say 'yes, his saves were top drawer and he should take confidence from his catching of crosses tonight.'
Have you heard a Liam Rosenior interview? Strikes a really good balance between honest appraisal of young players and stating what is expected.
If Cartwright had made the same number of mistakes as Holohan it would have been a cricket score. May as well do away with post match interviews if they are only ever couched in terms of the whole team. 'The lads done well' or 'we were miles off' seem good enough for 14 red crossers already!
