Id love to see Gardner come on and get a goal. He makes it look too easy for the youth team

It could a shake up time for some of them, but to be fair Pyke, Wilson and Amos I believe are injured ( allegedly).

Not a team that gets the juices flowing. Nice to see Gardner on the bench but I am not optimistic seeing our starting eleven, that said I remember walking to the ground last year after hearing the starting eleven v Plymouth in the cup and saying who the hell is going to score for us.

Lets hope my pessimism is as equally misplaced tonight.

Conteh also left out, or injured.  Although he is a sub.  Clifton preferred as a starter.

Clifton will be out wide which I think is his best position. Just not effective enough centrally. Love to see Charles back on the bench and Gardner given a chance. Think he's ready for mens football already and been a bit suprised it's taken this long with our injuries.

Maybe a signal for those leaving whilst giving hope to the younger ones.
I’m a big Clifton fan, but surprised he is in the starting lineup

We must get at least a point tonight…..

Not starting Conteh is brave. Not sure he did a lot wrong to be dropped to the bench compared to others but maybe Green preferred to deal with their style of play.

Looks a side of grafters, with not much in the way of flair. Down to the bare bones. Quite alarming given our current position.

Having a youth striker on the bench shows where one of our weak spots is.

Hmm, mostly the team that finished the game at Mansfield after the “not good enough” half
plus Waterfall and Efete goes from starter to not in the squad. And two of our best players from the “should have been 4-1 up” half are injured then Pyke and Gnahoua. Assume Hunt injured as well as he went off. Is Ainley injured? Can’t say I’m optimistic…
Great to see Cam there though. I think avoid relegation and seeing the Youth progress further in the cup and some of them break through to first team will do me for the second half of the season. Certainly not expecting much better than that…

Probably because he made no attempt to stop Mansfield's 2nd goal.

Thought Town doing well so far.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

These are awful, happy with how we're playing. Clifton looks much better out wide already, Eisa has been terrible. Passing is all over the place but then shows what he can do by beating his man and creating our best chance. Only way they're scoring is a worldie or Bolton gets in behind Glennon on the break.

After the season he had last season, i'm very shocked he was moved inside. Can only think it was at his request? but he's looked so much back out there.

Great stuff, got better as they went on. Best I've seen harry n holohan for a while, whilst Andrew's is the best I've seen him. Waterfall not letting the side down either.
Just a thought, given maher n rodgers have hardly been beckenbauer like in their distribution, is Luke really that much worse?

We have outplayed them and need to capitalise on their lack of confidence , they really are shite and we can’t let them back in the game. Eisa scares me sometimes but other than that everyone having a good game.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

He’s had a decent 45 minutes in a season when he’s been pretty shocking for the most of it so no reason yet to change my opinion on his abilities. Be nobody happier though if he goes on and gets a hat trick but he needs to be far more consistent going forwards.

Can't ask more from them in that half, everybody looking much more up for it than in the previous game, lots of running at their defence and taking chances on. Defensively we look solid although Salford not given us too much to worry about, very physical side as always though so it's good to see players like Green giving it back and making their players back off, ref willing to let the game be played and not blow for every little nudge.

The tubby midget Bolton seems to be their biggest threat so far as he's got in round the back a couple of times. Manchester City academy failure so he's pretty good at this level even playing in a rubbish team. If only we could pay a fee I'd say try to get him in Jan as he's out of contract in the summer. A player like that would solve some of our issues.

Think we've been in control majority of the game and had a few chances to grab a few goals. Salford look extremely poor and having a 6'6 lump up top as your main option shows you in which the way in which they wanted to set up this year. Thought they was poor when they was at BP earlier in the season and look the same today. Probably up there with the bigger spenders in the league aswell, wouldn't mind seeing these go down to see all the class of 92 lose interest and they become the nothing club in what they truly are.

They’re pretty poor but actually to be fair I think our work rate, shape, work off the ball has made them look poor.

Half way point another half like the please Town 🤞

They don’t press which is why we got schooled in the last two games, with time on the ball we look alright.  Clifton has that bit more space on the wing which works really well for him as he wants a little too long on the ball in midfield - he deserved his goal.
Andrew’s has got every second ball, good half from him too.  A good half!

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Just going to say the same.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Let's not get carried away, Salford were truly awful but that was a magnificent performance tonight from the lads. Fully deserved victory with tremendous performances throughout the whole team. Mom for me Luke Waterfall who showed the coolness and leadership that has been sorely missing at times. Special mention to Harvey Cartwright who made a fantastic save early doors in the second half which might have changed the game. A happy smiling mariner here for a change. Happy New Year!!! UTM! 😁

Delighted, good job football is not played on paper as didn’t look like a team that would get three but….. it did, brilliant win.

Great team performance and everyone played with passion and that’s all we ask, well done town.

Credit due where credit is due,

Most of us hammered them after the Mansfield performances myself included, to go win away at home at any team in this league is fantastic but I thought we pretty much controlled all the game barring 10 minutes in the 2nd half where they had a few set pieces.

Alot of very good performances out there today. Waterfall looked excellent against the towering giant Smith, both full-backs very assured Toby took his goal brilliantly while Glennon looked back to his usual best his crossing is sublime. Midfield 3 was very very good today, industrious but had that bit about us today and made the crisp short passes. Wingers was the one area on the pitch where I thought we was average, Harry took his goal well and offers you the graft, Eisa was OK today and I'd love to see Charles get a proper chance once he's fit. Danny Rose just offers you everything in abundance always chasing lost causes and took his goal brilliantly.

Very very happy tonight.

Safe journey home to those travelling fans.

Think Tranmere were in the bottom 7 before tonight. They are going great guns since they got a new manager.

FGR missed a pen in extra time and threw a point away.

What a game. Awesome team effort. Love that we kept going for another goal even at 0-3 up with positive subs rather than trying to park the bus. Well deserved clean sheet for Cartwright and goal for Clifton. Night and day from the last 2 matches. UTM.

Well done to all 3-0 away is a great result and over 900 town fans making the journey after all the rubbish they have had to watch is just fantastic.

The fishy folk won’t be hungry this weekend…lots of humble pie to go round

Easy for DA to criticise 2H performance at Mansfield; easy to criticise mentality for going half a season without an away win.  But has he done anything about it?  I give you exhibit A, his unenforced team changes and then exhibit B, the result n clean sheet.

Beautiful 😎

You can only play what's in front of you. Salford may have been awful but so have we on many occasions thus season. Well done the lads for what is a great morale and confidence boosting result - biggest win of them season (?), first away win since April and first clean sheet this season (?). What a great way to finish the year.

Delighted to be proved wrong querying Clifton over Conteh. Fantastic support - 910 finally rewarded on the road. Walsall have well beaten Hollywood so Monday should be a decent test of consistency, ticket sales look good again, let’s get the home fans rewarded as well.

Can you imagine, though? A return to NL must be incomprehensible to him.

Unfortunately we know the threat is real, but thankfully we’re all a little more confident after tonight.  Wish I’d been there. Safe travails to the town fans.

The bottom 3 teams lost and had a straight red and a red ( for 2 yellow cards) between them.

Delighted for the Team and manager.

Dominated the game and controlled it very professionally. Salford were truly woeful and were never in it. That said you can only beat what is infront of you and certainly an away win, a clean sheet and being 10 points clear is just the tonic we needed to end the year on

Brilliant result especially given the fact that we were missing several players with injury.

It good to see that points gap to the drop zone growing. The other thing that stands out for me looking at the table is the goal diff column. Ours is -4, which is on a par with several of the clubs above us, but the bottom five all have double digit negative differences, some pretty large, which shows that they often get thumped in a way that we don't. Many of our losses have been by a single goal.

The next game will be interesting because Walsall beat Wrexham 3-1 tonight and are bang in form having won four of their last five matches.
