I didn't realise Ainley was back fit. An experienced head to bring on in midfield if necessary, but I'm pleased that we're mostly unchanged from the weekend and it's good to see the midfield three together again. I like what I've seen of Gnahoua as he's got some skill and looks after the ball very well. Hopefully, he can carry on where Khan left off. A goal or two for the forwards to keep the momentum going would also be good.

No doubt, Slough have other ideas, so I'm hoping for another entertaining game.

Stands are looking very sparse inside BP tonight. I'd estimate about 3k max here.

We're switching ends again, worked on Saturday so let's hope for a net full of goals for Town.

Ball fell very nicely for Pyke in the middle of the penalty area and he slotted it past the keeper. Good finish and a much better start than in the match last Sunday.

Nicely nicely, well done town. I am far more comfortable coming in to this replay than I would have been before Saturdays performance. As if a switch has been hit.

As an exile who has a season ticket so I make the trip for every home game I just couldn’t afford the fuel and ticket money for this one. I’m sure there’s many in the same boat….I am watching Mcatee scoring for fun for Barnsley on tv which has softened the blow of missing out on football this evening. He’s scored 2 so far, second one a sublime chip. UTM, a great start so far…..

Feel a bit sorry for Slough. They've played some decent stuff so far but we've just buried both chances we've had.

That corner came from Pyke losing it twice in midfield when he could have knocked it wide.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Sorting the defence out has to be top priority for the new manager. It seems we have to score at least three goals every match to have a chance of winning.

Thanks for that. I had to watch it 3/4 times and couldn't believe how many Town players just stood and watched it headed in. Very disappointing defending.

2-2, long ball down the right, Waterfall out paced and Amos asleep allowing their tricky winger to skip past him and slot past a helpless Cartwright. For all our good attacking play we've looked appalling at the back tonight.

He may well be a lovely lad but Amos is a ruddy poor left back and I am afraid a constant liability.

They're cutting us to pieces with every attack. It's embarrassing how poor we look defensively. None of the back 4 are having good games and the midfield isn't helping them either. They were just inches away from making it 3-2 with another header from a few yards out ffs

Amos has had the odd good game for us but he wasn’t even a good left back at NL level. He’s not FL standard.

Un-fukin believable

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Sounds like we're too slow moving the ball out from the back. After the weekend thats very disapointing to hear

No, in possession we've been very good and are putting them under pressure (for example Holohan's* just had a certain goal headed off the line). It's been without the ball we've been inept this evening.

They’ve managed to get a post half-time response from the players in both their games in charge. So let’s not panic just yet.

2-0 up against a team 2 divisions lower and then concede 2, they need clouting the lot of them

At this rate - it will be 2-7
I’ll let you know at the end if the sackings have been beneficial
Hopefully a Pearson rant will focus a few minds at half time - plus some sensible substations at the back

I don't agree with this chopping and changing the back 4. We should have had the same as Saturday - keep some continuity going and allow a settled back 4 to get a proper understanding.

Our defending is continuing this half where it left off. We keep giving them set pieces in dangerous areas and we're letting the ball ping pong around our area with nobody taking command until it's desperately scrambled away.

It's just happened again and Rose has cleared off the line after Cartwright only half punched clear. Not good enough

Nice work from Pyke on the left. Thought he'd taken slightly too heavy a touch but the defender kept backing off leaving enough space for him to find Gnahoua with loads of room to switch it onto his left and bury it low into the corner from the edge of the area. Good goal

Hunt 5-2 and going through. Good for Hunt to score as it will do confidence a lot of good.

plenty moaned with hurst grinding 0-0 or 1-0 wins at home now we moan about our defence been excrement & i' m guilty but we are far more attack minded so leaving gaps

I don't think it's a case of attacking and leaving gaps, it's just the defence not doing their jobs.

Really nice goal there. Hunt picks up the ball in midfield on the break, plays a quick pass to Gnahoua and continues his run into the box. Perfect ball back into Hunt's path from Gnahoua and he slots it into the far corner. That's what Hunt offers if we play him further forward and why I'm not going to shut up about him getting more opportunities.

6-2, Ainley in space down the left, cuts inside and crosses to Gnahoua who takes a touch and then curves it round the keeper on his left foot. Lovely finish.

Scored against defenders out on their feet, hardly a reason to get excited about Hunt.

7-2, brilliant again from Hunt. Runs in behind their defence, clips a perfect cross over from the touchline back to an unmarked Andrews at the back post who heads it past the keeper.

Don't be daft, the lad has more quality on the ball than any other player in this squad. Yeah they're clearly knackered but his movement and passing has been top class.

Too inconsistent for me, and lets be fair, he should be able to  make those passes and movement when a team of part time players are absolutely knackered, evidenced by 3 goals in 6 minutes.

Now for Oxford away it's going to be hard but with our new found fire power and confidence you never know.

Well done to all the players plus Ben and Shuan.

Just need to tighten up at the back without taking anything from our attack.

I’ll let you know at the end if the sackings have been beneficial
Hopefully a Pearson rant will focus a few minds at half time - plus some sensible substitutions  at the back

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

I have seen Grimsby Town score 7 goals in a game.
Those games were against Scunthorpe United and Darlington.
In late 1996, I believe whilst visiting my wife in hospital - Grimsby Town knocked in 7 goals against Luton.
Whatever - celebrate these events - as they don’t happen very often

I saw town score 8 against Lincoln in the Lincs cup Ron Rafferty scored 6.

A few years before that we drew. 4-4 with them in the league at their place.

Ron Rafferty scored all 4 .

I LOVE GRIMSBY TOWN

I seem to remember us beating Mansfield 7-2, Rob Duffy scored a peach of a header for them and we signed him off the back of that game. Alan Connell scored a couple of worldie free kicks aswell if my memory serves me right

How can you be consistent when you get picked once in a blue moon?

And there we have it, why do you think he got selected once in a blue moon?

The guy who only selected him once in a blue moon was sacked for failing to win enough games.  I'm not sure that really backs up your argument.

Classic ‘straw man’.

Ask yourself this mate…….looking at all of diehard’s posts - do you really think he’s saying that? Honestly? Look at the detail and the balance of his views. I don’t believe you could really conclude that. I think you just seem to need to antagonise.

We lost those games due to poor management decisions overall, and not playing Hunt is in that mix.

That IS what he said, whichever way you want to put it.  And no, I don't want to antagonize, I want to make factual statements wherever I can, especially when people make generalised posts with no factual input, but a lot of speculation.  This is a forum right, where you can post your opinions and debate with others?

Except he didn’t say that. Its not the sort of sentiment he, or any other rational poster would make. You put two and two together and deliberately misrepresented his actual view, or, presented it in its most extreme interpretation. And you did that in order to make an obtuse, wrong point, or to illicit an argumentative dynamic. That’s what a straw man argument is. I repeat - do you actually want us to take your ‘opinion’ of his factual comment seriously knowing that nobody would credibly claim that Hurst was sacked because he chose not to select Hunt? I either don’t believe you, or find that conclusion, if it is a real one for you, to be incredulous. Diehard is about the least likely contributor to post something as crass. You, however, do have form in exactly this kind of area - usually seeing you retreat to a bogus victim/I’m entitled to my opinion position.

Facts are - Hurst didn’t select Hunt very often. He also did/didn’t select lots of other players and often it didn’t work out well. When Hunt did play I think everyone felt he didn’t do enough to justify a change of those decisions and didn’t play to the standards he had previously shown. Giving him a run of games might have seen him put that right; we’ll never know.If anyone has said ‘Hurst was sacked and results were poor because he didn’t play Hunt enough’, maybe you can point at that.

I disagree with this post, but this is your opinion, which I accept.  For you to say I retreat to a bogus victim etc. is childish.  I AM entitled to my opinion, and will post it on here whenever I want to, same as everyone else can on this forum.

"We don't know what Hunt was like in training, what his attitude was to being dropped etc" That's both/all of us , however BD/SP have played him, and haven't lost a match. We are not out of the woods yet but its a good start. They seem to be able to get a much better response from the same group of players. That's all people are saying.

For goodness sake mate, they played him for 15 minutes against a knackered set of part time players.
