Yes, so is Khan

I didn't realise Ainley was back fit. An experienced head to bring on in midfield if necessary, but I'm pleased that we're mostly unchanged from the weekend and it's good to see the midfield three together again. I like what I've seen of Gnahoua as he's got some skill and looks after the ball very well. Hopefully, he can carry on where Khan left off. A goal or two for the forwards to keep the momentum going would also be good.

No doubt, Slough have other ideas, so I'm hoping for another entertaining game.

Stands are looking very sparse inside BP tonight. I'd estimate about 3k max here.

As an exile who has a season ticket so I make the trip for every home game I just couldn’t afford the fuel and ticket money for this one. I’m sure there’s many in the same boat….I am watching Mcatee scoring for fun for Barnsley on tv which has softened the blow of missing out on football this evening. He’s scored 2 so far, second one a sublime chip. UTM, a great start so far…..

2-2, long ball down the right, Waterfall out paced and Amos asleep allowing their tricky winger to skip past him and slot past a helpless Cartwright. For all our good attacking play we've looked appalling at the back tonight.

They're cutting us to pieces with every attack. It's embarrassing how poor we look defensively. None of the back 4 are having good games and the midfield isn't helping them either. They were just inches away from making it 3-2 with another header from a few yards out ffs

No, in possession we've been very good and are putting them under pressure (for example Holohan's* just had a certain goal headed off the line). It's been without the ball we've been inept this evening.

Our defending is continuing this half where it left off. We keep giving them set pieces in dangerous areas and we're letting the ball ping pong around our area with nobody taking command until it's desperately scrambled away.

It's just happened again and Rose has cleared off the line after Cartwright only half punched clear. Not good enough

Really nice goal there. Hunt picks up the ball in midfield on the break, plays a quick pass to Gnahoua and continues his run into the box. Perfect ball back into Hunt's path from Gnahoua and he slots it into the far corner. That's what Hunt offers if we play him further forward and why I'm not going to shut up about him getting more opportunities.

Don't be daft, the lad has more quality on the ball than any other player in this squad. Yeah they're clearly knackered but his movement and passing has been top class.

Too inconsistent for me, and lets be fair, he should be able to  make those passes and movement when a team of part time players are absolutely knackered, evidenced by 3 goals in 6 minutes.

FFS I’m pretty sure there have only been three times Town have scored 7 in my time watching I’ve missed two of them.

This is the fourth one I can remember.

Luton (96, FA Cup)
Stockport (2011? ...Conor Townsend and Jamie Green destroying them down the left).
Halifax (2015?)
Alfreton (2014?)

Now for Oxford away it's going to be hard but with our new found fire power and confidence you never know.

Well done to all the players plus Ben and Shuan.

Just need to tighten up at the back without taking anything from our attack.

Mike Lester scored 4 on a foggy night, John Stone was playing for Darlington and we subsequently signed him.

At this rate - it will be 2-7
I’ll let you know at the end if the sackings have been beneficial
Hopefully a Pearson rant will focus a few minds at half time - plus some sensible substitutions  at the back
Looking good -well done the whole tea

Correct. 6 nil up at half-time. From memory we then beat Bradford 5-1 in our next game.

I have seen Grimsby Town score 7 goals in a game.
Those games were against Scunthorpe United and Darlington.
In late 1996, I believe whilst visiting my wife in hospital - Grimsby Town knocked in 7 goals against Luton.
Whatever - celebrate these events - as they don’t happen very often

A few years before that we drew. 4-4 with them in the league at their place.

Ron Rafferty scored all 4 .

The guy who only selected him once in a blue moon was sacked for failing to win enough games.  I'm not sure that really backs up your argument.

Classic ‘straw man’.

Ask yourself this mate…….looking at all of diehard’s posts - do you really think he’s saying that? Honestly? Look at the detail and the balance of his views. I don’t believe you could really conclude that. I think you just seem to need to antagonise.

That IS what he said, whichever way you want to put it.  And no, I don't want to antagonize, I want to make factual statements wherever I can, especially when people make generalised posts with no factual input, but a lot of speculation.  This is a forum right, where you can post your opinions and debate with others?

Except he didn’t say that. Its not the sort of sentiment he, or any other rational poster would make. You put two and two together and deliberately misrepresented his actual view, or, presented it in its most extreme interpretation. And you did that in order to make an obtuse, wrong point, or to illicit an argumentative dynamic. That’s what a straw man argument is. I repeat - do you actually want us to take your ‘opinion’ of his factual comment seriously knowing that nobody would credibly claim that Hurst was sacked because he chose not to select Hunt? I either don’t believe you, or find that conclusion, if it is a real one for you, to be incredulous. Diehard is about the least likely contributor to post something as crass. You, however, do have form in exactly this kind of area - usually seeing you retreat to a bogus victim/I’m entitled to my opinion position.

Facts are - Hurst didn’t select Hunt very often. He also did/didn’t select lots of other players and often it didn’t work out well. When Hunt did play I think everyone felt he didn’t do enough to justify a change of those decisions and didn’t play to the standards he had previously shown. Giving him a run of games might have seen him put that right; we’ll never know.If anyone has said ‘Hurst was sacked and results were poor because he didn’t play Hunt enough’, maybe you can point at that.
