They were in the Premier League once you know , have to pay a premium to have the honour.

But what WOULD be an acceptable price? Don’t get me wrong, £27 is expensive and it’s too much, BUT how many people on here who are saying they won’t be going would happily pay £22, then pay £5 for a pint of ‘beer’ in a plastic glass they’ll drink in 5 minutes flat? Lots, I’d imagine.

Yes it’s too expensive, but some people’s principles are misplaced and OTT. Just go to the game (says me who barely ever goes to away games, admittedly).

Already bought the train tickets so I guess I'll have to fork out that much, not happy though. Taking my son (not fused about footy) and his friend (Exeter fan) plus will hopefully meeting a handful from Wiltshire to.
The Merlin pub is a 10minute walk to the ground and is allowing sensible away fans in (they'll have a doorman) we've got a table booked for 12

Drinking a lovely refreshing beer is a great experience. Being robbed just to get in the ground is not. Happy to help.

Don't mind paying a couple quid over 20 but ridiculous

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I agree totally, but please let me know where to get a lovely beer in a football ground and I’ll happily go to it! Admittedly I’m judging all ground by the Lower Findus bar here….

Wasn’t Swindon away £24 when Harry Cardwell was disgracefully hacked down for a stonewall penalty in 2018 under Jolley?

I seem to remember it was because at the time it equalled the highest I’d paid for an away match with Ipswich away in 2002/03 season).

Given how inflation has been over the past 2 years especially an increase of 12.5% from 6 seasons ago seems reasonable.

At Swindon they put away fans in the side stand in the highest priced area of the ground. The Findus Upper is £24 so it’s not that much higher than Town charge for the equivalent seat.

Swindon can only charge what they make home fans pay in the same stand.

For me, yes the price is too high for a league 2 match but it's more what you get for that price. We have a tiny concourse which by 2.30pm last season was rammed and you could hardly move. If it was similar to what we provide (ie trust bar, seating indoors with tvs, fan engagement etc) I would still be annoyed at the cost but not disgusted like I am now.

I think that to some degree we have been protected from price rises  for services inour North East Lincs bubble . I pad £16 for a gin and tonic in Cambridge yesterday.

I think it was £19.93 - bonkers price because it was 25 years since their promotion to the Premier League! (and the reason why it's still in my head)

Unfortunately, we have to move with the times. You don't have to agree but you have to move with it. For reference, I can remember paying less than £3 for my late wife and I in the Pontoon and a program in the early 80's.

I've moved on, we all have to eventually.

P.S. As a 5 year old lad my dad was told to lift me over the turnstile at the Osmond end, as the operator thought I was too young to be made to pay. Would that happen today? I think not, but actions like that make you a lifelong Mariner Fan.

That’s probably right. It was probably the season after then.

The £24 record stood until I went to AFC Wimbledon last season when it was £25 for adults.

I think our spells in the National League have protected us from price rises.

Home clubs can only charge away fans what they charge their own fans for the equivalent seat.

Swindon seem the worst offenders because they put away fans in their premium seating area. They charge their own fans £23 for that crappy home end.

It might be small but it’s a better concourse than you will find at BP.

I disagree it provides nothing at all. Concrete floor with a half decent sized telly in a bricked area that holds a maximum 500 odd people safely without being over crowded.
Our 'concourse' for away fans is spacious and offers an indoor seating area (and sofas!) with a bar and tvs.

Is your argument that people should not have that beer to facilitate these price increases? Or that people should just pay the extra fiver? Either way I wholeheartedly disagree with you.

The £24 record stood until I went to AFC Wimbledon last season when it was £25 for adults.

The cherry on the cake of that one was the extra postage that exiles (many living in and around London) paid for what was a QR code on an A4 bit of paper that could have been printed at home/work.

I think Histon was the cheapest wasn’t it - when we won 6-1 I remember questioning the turnstile operator if had he given me too much change for me and 3 kids. I think was something like £12 for all of us.

If we compare to the biggest game in Europe this week Bayern v Moan Utd - you could get a standing ticket for 19 Euro. It’s the climate for football in this country. All seater was probably the trigger for big price increases. Town don’t have much choice - based on tickets sold, our occupancy will be the highest in League 2 - a lower price band would hit our revenue a lot. Notts and Bradford have such big capacities they can be much more creative with pricing.
We could have done if we still had our 3 open corner terraces.

The terracing was too shallow for seating.

Yes fair point - but also adding to the point about the climate for football in this country - it is utterly ludicrous that people can stand at the biggest of European games for about fifteen quid but not at Blundell Park.

Yeah, I saw that and wondered why Town cannot have standing if they can have standing in the elite European competitions, Uefa laws for one club and different for others. It should be the same for all clubs regardless of the European Leagues they play in.

It’s nothing to do with UEFA. It is because we triggered the domestic all seater requirement because of no.of years at Tier 2 and the legislation doesn’t permit going back to terrace standing in any part of the ground.

That being the case it's about time something was sorted out relevant to the League a club is playing in. The type of terraces shown seem to be far better than the old type of terracing we had in the past. I also saw several pints of lager being drunk while watching the game from the terraces.

Not seen much about the game from the club and with trains being cancelled I can't see alot going sadly although I do have a +5 potentially rising to 14. I'm also still waiting for my tickets to arrive, I bought them at the weekend.

It's £25 including the booking fee to sit in the upper, is £2 more that big of a deal? Away days are an expensive job but the few quid difference in ticket prices are not the biggest barrier to most of us it's the over priced trains, buses or fuel to get there, food, drink etc that make it over £100 day out for most which with current cost of living makes it prohibitive to most people supporting a family.

Ainley out for months, not a great start to his time at town. Maher's still out for this weekend too and Conteh's suspended for five bookings, but Danny Rose should be back in the squad.

Indeed, Maher and Conteh out and up against the division’s top scorers (24 in 8 games ffs) AND the division’s top scorer (9 in 8 ffs) on the back of two defeats punctuated by two poor defensive performances isn’t really the scenario you’d want under the circumstances. Oh, and against the team that handed us our biggest league defeat of last season too, if you want to add that into the mix.

The only thing I’ve got is that “football’s a funny old game”,  and sometimes the blindingly obvious outcome doesn’t materialise, but based on nothing more than cold, hard logic, I’m not expecting this one to end well.

100% agree. Have a feeling he will revert back to 5 at the back to try stay compact. Frustrating as I don't feel like we are likely to score many if any if we do as the lack of support or players in a forward position is poor.

17 out of 22 predictions so far are for a Swindon Win. Looks as if the odds are in your favour. But, last week only 1 out of the 40+ predictions gave a Crawley win so sometimes a host of predictions are wrong. Either way, I hope you win a quid or two.

This has got a Hurst 1-0 scrappy win written all over it.

Reads bloody grim though doesn't it with two of your best players out and no world class No 10 whipped up out of thin air.

Andrews for Conteh I reckon, but I'd maybe be tempted to put Rose and Pyke up top, Clifton and Eisa on the flanks.  Two solid banks of four with strikers who can support each other.  Otherwise I think it could get very isolated up there for the sole striker, with lots of pressure invited.

I wouldn't put Pyke in, he missed 2 sitters last week. Why not give that young lad Gardner a tryout?

I think he’ll go 5 at the back but I expect us to lose this comfortably, sadly.

I’m so bloody fed up with one up front. Totally had enough of it so would love to see two up front but that’s about as likely as us getting anything from the game.

Great Western Railway are running trains every hour at Paddington at half past the hour every hour to Swindon if anyone fancies a last minute trek across. Trains also leave from Bristol Temple Meads (also every half past the hour)even though there is a ASLEF strike on.

Anyone in the Peterborough area can also use LNER, Grand Central or Hull Trains to get into London for these trains. (Newark, Grantham and Doncaster too but probably cutting it fine at the time of this post)

The irony is that beetroot is proven to increase blood supply to the brain and slow mental degeneration.

If he had rickets, he’d probably call us all sun seekers.

Should be. Usually at Swindon there's a window that sells away tickets just walk past the away turnstiles.

Don't agree Dave when we bring him in it should be a home game against a team we are expecting to win.

We don't want to shatter his confidence too early in his career .

Like most expecting to lose today so bite the bullet and move on.

We will win the next two games .

Those away day guides aren't worth paying attention to since they're frequently full of outdated information. At Wrexham the other week it recommended parking in the university car park next door to the ground, yet on arrival we found it was closed to the public and ended up having to drive around Wrexham for another 15 minutes trying to find a public car park.
