Gillingham. Spent a bomb in January & throwing more at it this year.

Had won only 2 league matches from July to mid January last season. New American property tycoon buys the club in Dec ‘22, bring in a load of new players and they win 12 of the next 23. Carried on spending big this summer, should be up there.

Who knows - apart from the Premiership - if there is a fee involved these days it goes through as 'undisclosed'.
I think in our case we paid a fee for 5 players over the summer & only Stevenage revealed that it was a five figure fee.

I’d say it’s been a pretty quiet summer for most of the anticipated runners and riders, at least in terms of what I’d expected. Wrexham only signing the one player so far has definitely surprised me, and it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if they find the early part of the season hard going without their talisman.

The standout signings, at least in terms of name / pedigree are probably:

- David McGoldrick - Notts County
- Nick Powell - Stockport
- Curtis Tilt - Salford
- Scott Malone - Gillingham
- Will Boyle - Wrexham

Not a new signing, but I’d also rate Notts’ retention of Macauley Langstaff, so far at least, as a big surprise and a statement of intent from the ‘pies.

Realistically, no one Town signing this summer is going to register on the League Two transfer richter scale like any of the above, but collectively I am absolutely convinced we have improved as much as anyone in the division. Time will tell how far that will take us, but I genuinely haven’t been this excited for a new season since 1999.

The Conteh signing has tbf anyone so called 'in the know ' about the lower leagues have put him up there as one of the best signings and the  best young player in the league.

How did Notts get so loaded, they've been league 2 stugglers for years (apart from their short stint in the NL obvs).

Yeah a lot of knowledgeable lower league experts were quite shocked we managed to land Conteh. Even more so that it was a permanent, 3 year deal.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"
