I wouldn't trust a thing on that wiki as it says he only played one game for Huddersfield then in the stats above it got him down as playing 51 games with a dozen goals.

Could be 5'3 or 6'3

25 year old, who seems to have a few injuries and a negligible scoring record. Sounds perfect
interesting that he's another Yorkie - another example of us recruiting regional players.
Wasn't with P.H. at Shrews, so wonder if this a head of recruitment / data led transfer?

I've never heard of him, asked a friend of mine who used to work in the media at Scunny.

Got a reply back

"He's Doggo, didn't get close to a goal for us in 10 games"

To be fair, he said McAtee was crap as well. So on that note, he's bound to be a success.

I bet even Messi or Ronaldo would have struggled in that Scunny team last season!

He's way taller than that, he's bigger than the Findus Stand if you look at his announcement photo on Towns website.

"Pyke in the net."

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

No issue with the signing as I haven't seen him play, however with his record I think we need to be careful with 2 year contracts for players with a fair bit to prove. I think this one perhaps should have been a year, I recall the reason we started giving shorter contracts because we spent a fortune paying players off to leave on far too many occasions

Cotterill praised Pyke for adapting to the wing-back role

So although usually a striker seems he adapted to a situation and did well as a wing back for a short period of time.

Under the radar signing. I trust Hurst so welcome to the club Pyke.

I will go on the Shrewsbury fans view and they seem sad he's leaving .

Another league 1 player , that fans of the club wanted to keep .

That will do me

We are constructing a very good squad for league 2 ,and i might even alter my expectations .

What now needed
2 keepers
A CB
A midfielder
?
Probably all completed with a month before the start of the season .

Excellent preperation and recruitment so far .
Well done to everyone involved .

I'd agree if he was regarded as male masturbation, but the reviews are all positive from fans of clubs he's played for. They recognise he's a very good footballer just being played out of position. Seems to be a player that if he doesn't score, he still leaves his mark on the game.

As I said I welcome the signing, all I said was he perhaps has unfulfilled potential and his career shows that. Just worried about the length of the contract which I think is a pretty valid concern.

Local players is fine.

Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 (first British team to do so).  All their players were born within 20 miles of Glasgow.

I remember Brian Slough signing a few players who many thought was crap..

They went on to win the league and European cup.

Some interesting comments here on him

I think this could be a proper signing, under the radar, used our data and found a match

Probably one that Joe Hutchinson has something to do with, we can all point to stats and say that he's not a proper striker ect ect but some of El General's best signings have been the ones with just meh stats before joining. John McAtee & Jon Nolan deemed lazy and useless.. I'll wish him the very best of luck before writing him off and hope that he goes from strength to strength with us.

Welcome aboard.

And has the ability to cover wing back, so another adaptable signing that gives more overall cover to the squad.

I remember a few Shrewsbury fans deriding Waterfall when he signed for us and that he wasn't good enough. However some of the more educated ones pointed out that he could be decent in League 2 under the right guidance. We all know how that turned out.
The same could be said for Pyke. Maybe dropping down a level will be just the move to find some consistency and confidence.

Quite a few Shrewsbury fans appear genuinely gutted to have lost Pyke. Not a player they wanted to see the back of so hopefully a good signing at this level.

It's policy to offer 2 year contracts "were possible" now, they have said the idea is that gives players who have been identified as potentially successful (which is why we've signed them) the best chance to be successful as the longer contract enables them to relax and concentrate on football. That's the idea anyway.

We will just have to see if it works and how often mistakes are made requiring payoffs.

After doing a bit of research i think it's an even better signing than many think - Steve Cotterill put a lot of trust in him last season and rated him . On the face of people's meltdowns that we have signed a ' non scoring striker ' especially in Twitter space , there are a few things to point out .

- he started 22 games in league 1 last season for a team that finished twelth and came off the bench a further 17 times .

- He played mainly right wing back ,right back , right midfield or left midfield and on a few occasions up top .

He may well have been brought in as competition for Michee alongside offering cover on the flanks and in an emergency to play up top ; you would think Hurst has signed him off the back of a good season in multiple positions rather than as an out and out striker .

I see him possibly as a Kiernan type with the added ability to play right back.

Rochdale and Scunny fans say he was bad, but that was as a central striker .

A very astute signing if you look beyond the 'goals scored' tally .

PH quote on the official website "We’ve certainly brought him in as a centre-forward and we think he’s a good age. He’s another one of those players, from speaking to him and watching him, we’re in agreement that there’s more to come."

“Hopefully, he can find a home with us. He’s quick, strong, powerful and another one that we’re pleased to have on board along with Danny and Donovan. They give us three out and out centre forwards, as well as one or two more who can also play in that area.”

Notice that Danilo Orsi isn't even listed by Hurst in the players considered to be centre forwards there...

Worth checking with David Icke. Could be alien shape shifting lizard member of the illuminate.

Tbf, a shape shifting reptilian of the lower 4th dimension CDAJATL.    Welcome aboard Pykes- another player with games at a higher level and will presumably be well up for proving himself as a forward after being deployed all over the shop.

Something doesn't fit. His Wiki page basically says he has a strike rate of goal a game for multiple clubs.

You do know that any idiot can alter someone's Wiki right?  Damned if I know why they would, but they do.

Maybe it's also a case of Hurst hedging his bets , he knows he's a good utility player at a higher level .

Give him a go up top , if he is not upto standard move him back to the positions he has done well in .

I don't think the contracts thing is an issue at all tbh , we won't have to pay anyone off as there will always be takers either on loan, on a free or for a small fee with the calibre of player we have .

It's not the dross/wrong uns that have been recruited previously who no one wants and then have to be paid off , the days of Conlon turning up to training fuelled up and Linwood taking tins in have long gone thankfully .

There was a Godfrey played for Scunny back in the day, don't remember his first name though.

Playing Jones at the back and we’d crumble under the slightest pressure with headless chicken defending. Walker would be good up front and win us plenty of pens but likely to get a few red cards as well. If we brought in Hodges then the whole squad would be disrupted with infighting.

Pyke was at Wrexham when Ricketts was our manager a few years back and is a decent player. He was liked at the time. Showed promise.
He's no target man from what I can remember but always played up front for us.  We did fairly well that season and up until Christmas were right in the mix so he was in a good team. He only scored 5 goals though I think. I would imagine he's come on a bit since then but looking at his record he struggles for goals which surprised me a bit.
P.S. I'd ignore his time at Scunthorpe. They were dreadful last season, one of the worst teams we played. Haaland could've played up top for them and would've struggled. Awful team.

Godfrey not a Hurst type - PH wouldn't have patience with "can I be excused" but his sister Dolly's upside down cakes would eb handy for Xmas social

Jonesy - to much panic in the penalty box; stupid and needless penalties etc

Mainwaring - not the best of leaders; too pompous and over-inflated opinion of himself

Fraser - go 2-0 down early doors and he'd think it was all over; not the right type

Walker - inconsistent; maverick; McAtee like... I think he'd be useful

Wilson - will he track back? Too casual? Jury's out for me

Pyke - slightest injury and he'd go missing; will he wear scarf and gloves in winter?

Much to ponder....

Wilson is that surprise signing, your Connell, Podge, Rob and Lump Jones, etc and becomes a bit of a Cult hero out of nowhere after going a little under the radar when signed

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

Wilson is quality though, cool finisher, especially with Pyke’s mum.

I had to chuckle reading the comments underneath the Grimsby post, their fans all buzzing with the signing before one person came in and poured cold water over it all with the truth bomb of 9 goals in 140 appearances.

I guess Hurst has found his new John-Lewis.

Yep. LJL was a good player for us, not brilliant, but very useful. If Pyke can offer as much to the squad (if not the scoreline), he'll prove to be a decent signing.
