Local players is fine.

Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 (first British team to do so).  All their players were born within 20 miles of Glasgow.

I remember Brian Slough signing a few players who many thought was crap..

They went on to win the league and European cup.

Some interesting comments here on him

I think this could be a proper signing, under the radar, used our data and found a match

Probably one that Joe Hutchinson has something to do with, we can all point to stats and say that he's not a proper striker ect ect but some of El General's best signings have been the ones with just meh stats before joining. John McAtee & Jon Nolan deemed lazy and useless.. I'll wish him the very best of luck before writing him off and hope that he goes from strength to strength with us.

Welcome aboard.

Well were not gonna sign a player who had 20 goals in league 1 are we. When we make signings that look like this on paper on deadline day, thats when I worry, when we snatch them up this early on, thats when I think hurst is onto something

And has the ability to cover wing back, so another adaptable signing that gives more overall cover to the squad.

I remember a few Shrewsbury fans deriding Waterfall when he signed for us and that he wasn't good enough. However some of the more educated ones pointed out that he could be decent in League 2 under the right guidance. We all know how that turned out.
The same could be said for Pyke. Maybe dropping down a level will be just the move to find some consistency and confidence.

Quite a few Shrewsbury fans appear genuinely gutted to have lost Pyke. Not a player they wanted to see the back of so hopefully a good signing at this level.

Quoted from VinnyGTFC
As I said I welcome the signing, all I said was he perhaps has unfulfilled potential and his career shows that. Just worried about the length of the contract which I think is a pretty valid concern.

It's policy to offer 2 year contracts "were possible" now, they have said the idea is that gives players who have been identified as potentially successful (which is why we've signed them) the best chance to be successful as the longer contract enables them to relax and concentrate on football. That's the idea anyway.

We will just have to see if it works and how often mistakes are made requiring payoffs.
