Once we lose may in the summer he may well be a big part of our team,he's never really had a sustained period of games, usually subbed on or stuck upfront on his own when we've had injuries.

We've all been eager for him to start producing being a local lad.

He's excrement. You don't need him at all. We will take him off of you to save you wasting your time with him

On a more serious note, I've watched all Grimsby games this season bar one and he's definitely our best attacking player when he's got support around him. For a small lad he puts himself about a bit

Lloyd would be a good signing for us, and he seems to have settled here immensely well, having been given a good run on the pitch, either straight on, or as the impact sub !!.

Town need to find a big mobile forward alongside him, hopefully to form the next McAtee / Taylor attack team.

We’ll do a swop for George, you can have any of our players except Harry, Max ,Orsi and Khan oh and Waterfall.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

I'd definitely take him if he were to become available.  Has an eye for goal and works his bottom off, but needs a striker to play off to get the best out of him.

The BBC’s goals and assist stats are quiet telling.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/grimsby-town/top-scorers

In just 16 appearances he’s our joint 4th top goalscorer and joint 2nd in terms of assists. He has the best minutes per goal ratio of anyone who has played a meaningful amount of time, too. 303 minutes per goal, not amazing, but pretty solid for a player who makes goals and does a lot generally at the top of the pitch.

He’s only 23 (24 come the start of next season) and so you’d imagine a good 4 or 5 years from his peak. Absolute no brainier we should sign him should it become a possibility; for me the bigger questions are:

a) Will Cheltenham want to let him go?
b) If so, how much for (and will we want to pay it)?
c) Will there be other clubs ahead of us in terms of transfer fee, wages and location?

I’d have him back in a heartbeat in the summer, but my worry is that we’ll fall down somewhere along the line in terms of the above. He’s a hard working young striker who scores and makes goals at this level - it’s almost certain we won’t be the only ones in for him.

Well keeping him would be a good sign of intent and probably the first opportunity for arr Paul to try and resist keeping 'us shape' with the transfer budget / wage structure .He obviously likes it here so give him 3 or 4 years , he's actually 6 months younger than Mcatee and played about 40 more league games (most at a higher level ) although different players a good permanent replacement for me .

Would agree, think if we really want a serious promotion push we may want a slightly more consistent striker but he would be an excellent player to have in the squad and nobody would be moaning if he was in the starting lineup alongside someone though not stuck all alone against two six foot six giants!!!

I think a) and b) should be ok.  Whilst he is young, relatively speaking, he's had a fair few years as a pro at Cheltenham without really making his mark there.  That's even more the case since they've gone into League One.  It looks to be another case of them staying at that level for next season too.  I'm sure, for the right fee, we can tempt them to part with someone they might not need.

But for the love of god we've got to take the bull by the horns to make sure b) doesn't became an issue and before c) even becomes a consideration.  Yeah I get it we don't want to have to pay £150k for a £100k player but if that extra £50k spent means we get the right player rather than playing the lottery of seeing who else will come to us then I'd rather spend it than not.

Yeah, I think Hurst effectively alluded to this in a recent interview; players are worth what others are prepared to pay for them and you either accept that or miss out on key targets more often than not.

I’d like to think lessons will have been learned from the last couple of windows in which, whatever you make of our business, have seen us knocked back too many times.

I’d also like to think Lloyd has enjoyed himself here, my worry is if a club closer to home were to come in for him. Next season in League Two we’ll have Forest Green, Swindon and Newport - plus potentially Oxford too - all roughly within an hour’s drive of Cheltenham. Walsall is only 60 miles away as well.

If one of the above were to lodge a serious offer, the prospect of not having to move far (or at all) becomes quite compelling, regardless of any factors in our favour. Gut feel just tells me we’re up against it trying to get him here permanently, but maybe we’ll see a different approach to recruitment in the summer and we’ll all be pleasantly surprised. Here’s hoping.

On a slightly related note, it was interesting to see in last night’s spectacular meltdown from the Yeovil owner (worth checking out on Twitter) that Maidenhead wanted £150,000 for Emile Acquah in January. Available on a free in the summer, so looks like Maidenhead priced themselves out of a sale in the hope he’d keep them up. Didn’t work, 13 goals this season and they’re bottom of the conference.

Agree on all fronts.  Which is why I hope we've looked out our prospective bank balance over the summer and being proactive, engaging with Cheltenham now regards his transfer and effectively got something sorted already.

Think you're mixing Maidenhead and Maidstone up?

Either way, 5 goals since they rejected that bid isn't amazing and you would have thought it could have gone towards an upgrade.  More to the point £150,000 on a player with a dogshit record like that?  Mind blowing!

I hope you’re right, would be very happy with that. The pragmatist in me says Lloyd would be a daft to make any commitments at this stage; 2 or 3 goals in our remaining games and his stock would increase tangibly. But you never know, maybe he sees Hurst as the man to turbocharge his slightly floundering career, just as he has McAtee’s.

At the end of the day, you have to pay the going rate for decent players, not what you think they're worth.

Yeah Maidstone, Maidenhead, Minehead, all meaningless shítholes.

Probably sums up the state of the market in January though at that price. Can see where Hurst was coming from when he said it’s a seller’s market at that point. Colchester blew their load as well and they’re only 4pts clear.

Maybe controversial but from what I’ve seen this season (albeit from a tv screen!) I think Lloyd is an improvement on Mcatee. I don’t think JM has been fit all season and possibly, the injury and operation hampered him when the obvious lack of a proper start to the season couldn’t happen.

There is a very good player in JM and I reckon he will become a very good player once he’s training with a far better standard of players

The ultimate question is -  how does Lloyd himself feel having been given the confidence and opportunity to play regularly?

So -

Go back to Cheltenham, and take your rare chances at a higher level?

Go out to a more local team and hope he can click?

Stay at Grimsby after a summer transfer, play regularly, and continue your development with caring training staff, managers and fans?

If Hurst and team could find 4 or 5 new players with Lloyd's mobility and enthusiasm, and with some larger physical presences to combat some of the Division sloggers, then next season would be a far better one for the fans.

Personally, I think that both a McAtee replacement and Lloyd together up front would cause defences problems, as they are both very mobile, and both tackle hard and harass defenders into making mistakes.

This would need better ground passing, and not being reliant on a Taylor type player as the only option from hopeful long clearances.

I really, really thought Colchester would pull away with ease.  After their flashing of the cash, Tom Hopper included, I saw a lot on Twitter of their fans thinking the play-offs weren't out of question either.

Their fixtures aren't the kindest either, two of the top seven and a proper relegation scrap against Crawley next Tuesday.

At the end of the day, you have to pay the going rate for decent players, not what you think they're worth.

It's alright saying that, but every manager has a limit.  You can't pay what a player/club demands if it's going to use money needed for other additions to the squad.

Colchester absolutely hammered Crewe the other day, so maybe their poor run is over.

Anyway, the foot of the table is far tighter now - all of the bottom 3 are picking up points regularly, although Rochdale have left things far too late.

Wowwww!
Minehead is nice actually

I used to work with a lad from Minehead who could fit a Royal Gala in his mouth and close it to nearly clenched teeth and sealed lips. How did he find this out? Because he was from Minehead and there was intercourse all else to do bar going to Butlins.

I know that’s probably only a guess, but if that is what it takes to get him we’d be absolutely mad not to.

What do they say “never fall in love with a loan player” George Lloyd is decent I reckon but let’s not get all self indulgent thinking he loves GTFC as much as we do.

He’s a professional footballer, yes I think you could say his loan spell has gone well but it doesn’t mean to say he’s pushing his agent to get him here permanently. What he will be doing is getting his agent to bring him the best deal he can “if” he isn’t part of the plans at Cheltenham.

All that said if he came here on a permanent deal I’d be more than happy. It will be interesting in the summer as I think even though we’ve got a better budget I still think it will be a challenge to bring in what could be 5 decent signings in f we’re truly going to be competitive.

If you look at who’s coming up and who’s coming down league 2 will be a tough division next season.

Lovely coastline nearby, if that's your thing, but it probably isn't the sort of thing that local kids think about. I stopped in Porlock once and walked round the coast to Minehead and it was the epitome of a one horse town.

I love going on holiday to the south west but, even now, I'm ready to come home after a week down there.

We need George to fall in love with a GRIMSBY girl while he. Is here.

That might help.
