No Waterfall and Efete again?

| When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?” |

Hurst did say after the Crawley game that they hadn't travelled and were doubtful for today.

Interesting to see how we do without Efete and Waterfall, two of our mainstays all season, against a strong Bradford side.
If we were going to lose 2 of our regular defence, then I suppose now is as good a time as any, seeing as we are relatively safe.

It looks like a 60's mop top. Rocking the Ringo Starr look.

I've got a mariners tv login someone can use to listen alternatively (too late for today) I can provide you with a iptv app which is fantastic and a few fishiets have had one from me.
Hoping Taylor performs today and shuts me up, few people upset with my opinion on his recent performances.

Can see us scoring a couple of goals (at least), so it will be interesting to see how the back 4 perform. Don't think that back line has appeared before.

Almost did against Crawley, but with Amos instead of Glennon. Bradford a different proposition mind.

We normally have 3 different commentaries at 3pm so you'd think they could put us on freeview or digital ?

I think I heard RH say it's on Freeview and FM, but I'm not sure. Suggest you tune in to RH and see where they take you.

That penalty was the result of Harry chasing a lost cause and drawing a foul on what should have been an easy take, very clever play.

Errors is the best way to descibe that half isn't it. Error from us gives them the lead after they were on top, error from them gives us the equaliser and we get on top and another error from them to give us the lead. I'm still a little worried about them on the break, we've not looked the most confident at the back today. Agree with a few others about JT, he seems to be watching a different game to the rest of us this week. I’m sat in the Bradford part of East Stand with some Bradford and neutral mates.
I’m on the end next to a right moaning whinge bag.
She was pïssed cos she usually sits in the seat I’m in. She was calling me miserable to her mate for the first 20 mins.
I didn’t do a very good job of not appealing for our pen.
She’s now scowling at me and saying I can clap if I want to. You can hear her tutting over the sound of the Town fans she’s that annoyed.
If I don’t make it through the 2nd half…I love you all. Can you be tutted to death by a 50 year old cow?

Played some lovely passing football today. Mcatee working realty hard, coming back deep to win some tackles, constantly running. Pretty even 1st half I thought. Entertaining game and great away support as always. Only heard the Bradford fans when they scored.

Try making polite conversation. You know, something like "Are Bradford usually this sh1t?"...or something similar.

Thats been coming the entire half. We stopped playing at half time. Another half where teams have made adjustments against us and we just carry on with the status quo until something like that happens and then even after that happens.

In his defence he's played 90 games in almost 18 months without a break. Him, Smith, Efete, Waterfall, Clifton & Holohan all badly need the close season to recharge their batterries - as much mentally as well as physically

I’d like to see changes to try to win the game, rather than to not lose it. We might as well. We’re mid table, safe and with a tiny shout of the play offs. What’s the point in playing for a point?

Bradford are showing now the difference between where they are and where we want to be.
The first half was another fantastic display in similar fashion to Crawley, showing that perhaps it wasn’t about Crawley being a poor team and actually a quality showing from us.
The second half, when Bradford have grabbed the ascendency they’ve kept it and I called it that they would score inside of five minutes… it took 1.5 minutes.
Since their goal they look like the only team who are going to score again and we will do well to even get close to playing the way we did in the first 45.
For me it shows we have capability, we can play great football and we can compete with those at the top end but we need that ruthlessness about us.
Id be surprised if we bring a point home. At half time I felt we could go on to win, then after they came back in I’d settle for draw but they’re battering us now and can see a Bradford winner coming soon.

Completely inept second half performance. No leaders, no one holding the ball, pish poor passing. Our centre backs haven't laid a glove on Cook, always in too much space. Taylor and Glennon well off it
And McAtee but that seems to go without saying these days. We were best by a margin first half but not been at the races at all 2nd. Hurst should have changed it before the inevitable happened. Silly really with Bradford lacking a bit of confidence and their fans getting on their backs.

Poor game management second half. As usual, we needed more quality on the ball and waited far too long to make changes. Strange that the midfield control that was on the pitch on Tuesday was left on the bench Saturday.

Before the game who honestly thought we would win ?
The players are knacked with the games we have had to play in a short time.
Remember the good times and we go again next season all nice and fresh.

Well, the've got 5 full days to recover before Friday. Let's hope they are revitalised for the Hartlepool game, which sure is a game we should win.

I’m done with McAtee now. I’m not angry or upset when his names on the teamsheet because it can’t be denied he has ability and you’re always hoping that a spark of that ability provides a goal. For me though he’s been largely ineffective in recent months. He’s flattered to deceive and just because last season he was really good, and because he is talented doesn’t mean he HAS to be in the team. What I noticed more today than other weeks is the berating of team mates when they didn’t do what he felt they should be doing, yet seemed to forget his own urine poor passes. Body language suggests he doesn’t like Lloyd but I’m picking Lloyd over McAtee every day of the week right now. Has more endeavour and more work rate. McAtee has more creativity but isn’t using it, instead being more wasteful, making Lloyd more productive and effective by doing the simple things that he’s capable of and it actually coming off more often than not.

Great 1st half then as per the opposing manager changes things, they took control and Hurst just stood and watched till they scored, . Needed subs by 60 mins but nothing till Bradford get a goal back, Hurst so frustrates me.

We’ve blown a lead having had much the bests of the game. We had five subs to make. Surely you use them if you’re able to?

Get the point about the subs but in reality I’m not sure our bench has/had pace to create an outlet or is there anyone who could really change a game in an instant.

I think today showed why we switched to a back 3. We rely on our full/wing backs for width which makes it so easy to drag our defence out of shape when we play with a 4 and a top striker like Cook is always going to find the extra space. Glennon struggled again which reinforces my view from January that LB is an area that needs some work in the summer.
We panicked again from set pieces - I think more height in the team would help with that. We also need a midfielder who's press resistant. While I like Holohan, he is not someone who is able to relieve pressure on the team when in possession.
Our points return since the cup exit hasn't reflected the promising performances overall, which just shows that we aren't quite good enough in both boxes. Plenty to build on though.

Great 1st half then as per the opposing manager changes things, they took control and Hurst just stood and watched till they scored, . Needed subs by 60 mins but nothing till Bradford get a goal back, Hurst so frustrates me.
There was a similar argument against Crawley but I don’t think it was warranted, personally I think that if we could have seen the game out with the 11 on the pitch (Khan the exception) we may have seen the game out or advanced our lead. Today however I do think changes were needed a bit earlier. I’m a huge PH fan and very rarely critique him because my trust is implicit but today I do think a more proactive approach when they took a very obvious domination of the game might have helped. Might not but I think today I would have preferred it than not.

Poor game management second half. As usual, we needed more quality on the ball and waited far too long to make changes. Strange that the midfield control that was on the pitch on Tuesday was left on the bench Saturday.

Christ reading the fishy youd think we need a new team. Only Lloyd that gets any love - but for how long? 🤣 Mind you i tend to agree. No players position is safe....
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

The call for ealier subs i.would understand if we had game changer on the bench. Its much of a muchness at the moment we need that player with a little spark even if he can only do it for 10 to 20 minutes.

Holohan totally to blame for that.
Yep. We need better. Does a lot of good things, but too often loses the ball stupidly in midfield. Need better next season.

Holohan, Taylor & McAtee were absolutely garbage.
When we tried to play we were decent, but we just didn’t even bother in the second half until we went 3-2 down.
At least it was entertaining

Entertaining game but it's easy to see where our problems lie agains an average team who are 3 points off the automatic places . Max has been poor for a while now and needs replacing imho . Obviously we need a striker who can finish but Max is a huge problem now

We have no other player who can link the play between forward and attack though ,so unless we are going to go with a flat midfield (like we did when was out for the extended period ) and lack creativity , there is Khan but hes a bits and pieces player for me . Hoping hurst gets 2 link players in the summer ; I am not as fascinated about getting a big name number 9 as most ,would be more than happy with a couple who will get double figures and getting a Ryan Taylor type who has a physical presence . I would be happy to keep Taylor around to based on the last few games ,think hes been decent and a good backup /alternative option .

Only the relative merits of the 2 teams. Bradford a much better team than Crawley, so probably saved those players for today. Expect PH is making his mind up about some and trying different things.

Holohan can’t pass and gets in the side ahead of players that can.

Theres not really much point of difference between Gav , Green and Morris ; they are all decent enough but we need one at least who either has some guile or runs past the strikers (could Clifton do that in a 3 ?) ; they really struggle in those home games when teams park the bus and against big physical players .

Not going to be an overreaction from me, gutted to lose but people calling for Hursts head - really?
We are safe and with a decent striker past 3 games we drew prior to Bradford would have been wins and we would be pushing on playoffs. It’s not been a bad first return season to the EFL for us. Let’s keep the core of the squad that are our better players and add to that in the summer. There are a few players with question marks hanging over their heads but they will have the rest of the season to show wether or not they deserve a contract.
Crocombe really needs some competition bringing in this year as feel his levels have dropped quite significantly past few months, still has credit in the bank from me for his heroics in the playoffs.
Players who I would keep/want to keep to build this team around:
Waterfall - (Been an absolute rock this season, will slip a mistake now and again but ask him to do the simple things well heading and kick it and won’t go far wrong)
Maher - Looks best next to Waterfall and really like him, I think that his first full season in L2 for us he’s impressed after getting himself in the team
Smith - If Hull can facilitate it then I would jump at the chance. Still young and getting plenty of experience under us, ball is in Hulls court.
Emmanuel - Can flick a game on its head and I think if I’m a team that is consistently dominating you will see a lot more output from him. Still not had a full preseason with a team. I would try and push the boat out to get him back next year.
Green - Does the ugly stuff brilliantly and a proper yard dog that will go to war, feel like we have 3 similar players trying to compete in that midfield but Green does it best. Be bold and sign some players who may not have as much defensive responsibility but can control a game (Khan of Swindon perfect example)
Clifton - Probably POTY and flourished this time round in the EFL, wouldn’t begrudge him of a move to L1 should he wish as he’s earned it but would love to see Harry here for another year to give it a go for promotion with us.
Khan - Showed earlier in the season glimpses of why he’s a tricky winger but seems to have lost his way due to a change of system from us. If the plan is to play with wingers next year I’d keep him as more than effective on his day.
Lloyd - Go get him from Cheltenham as next to a big lump with abit of pace I think he could cause havoc and go get a shedload of goals next season. His work rate is second to none and always know you get an honest shift from him each week.
Rest of the squad I’m take it or leave it about. Glennons output going forward is brilliant but at times worry’s me defending. The right back scenario I think that we need to bring in a first team and have Michee as a back up to try and raise his bar. Morris/Holohan only room for one next year for me as we massively need to improve quality on the ball in the middle of the park don’t think we will see both here come start of next year. Hunt needs to be able to stake a regular place in the team or I fear just be loaned out to the NL. I’d keep Taylor as a plan B for next year as your never going to get a full season out of him, there is a reason past 5-6 games we’ve looked loads better as a team and he’s been in it. Legs have gone for him but his experience and battling quality would still be fine for me to have him as back up. As much as I love Danilo and his personality I don’t think he is up to EFL standard and will be moved on in the summer.

People calling for Hurst's head again you say? Astonishing.
I think PH has plenty of kudos in the bank. Promotion last season, the cup run and comfortable in league 2 this season.
The coming close season though is where he needs to upgrade the playing squad to fill the obvious deficiencies. He had some valid reasons for the underwhelming recruitment this season, but I am expecting better for the coming campaign.
