Usually a managers pay off is their salary until they get another job or their original contract expires.

If I had a contract I would expect the company that sacked me pay me up in full or negotiate a pay off, I certainly wouldn't sign a contract that stipulated that I would have to give up some of my pay off if I got another job.

It might already be in his contract with Charlton. Charlton paying him compo for loss of employment might be dependent on him losing his income. If he is able to replace some or all of that income he’ll be due less compo.

It might then come down to a negotiation between him and Charlton where he tries to up what he is due by enough to make the new job worth taking, and Charlton might get him paid off quicker.

Holloway as manager, Slade as assistant and Mike Newell as head nutritionist sounds like a pretty winning combination to me.

May as fundraising manager. Nick Dale in charge of customer service…

It might be in his contract, then again it might not, I don't think that it can be assumed automatically that a manager being sacked has to give up his leaving payments.

When I worked in an HR environment when sacking an individual (not in a football environment) the main payments we made were redundancy that could not be applied in this case as clearly the manager would be replaced, pay in lieu of notice either related to their length of employment or their contract and payment for loss of office plus any other the sacked person may be able to agree to.

I cannot ever remember a payment "for loss of employment"

So it'd be payment in lieu of notice to be technical.

Yeah, but this is the crazy world of football. Nuno at Tottenham got a 14 million pay off for about three months failure.

Had they stuck with him until the end of the season and finished outside the top 6, they could have sacked him for nothing, such was a clause in his contract.

I would imagine each managers contract is different these days you’d still have statutory employment rights but after that it’s football so they’ll make it up as they go along.
