According to their manager, they were better than us in both halves of the game.

The object of football is to outscore the opposition Mr Sarll. They managed one shot of note all game, yet we could have had 3 or 4 goals.

When he mentioned that his team were better than us in both halves I noticed he said it with finger in ear and not tongue in cheek.

I think their Manager’s opinion reflects one of the problems with the modern game where possession is seen as King and people seem to forget the main aim of the game is to score more than the opposition.

Yeovil were very well organised and kept the ball very well but Macca had one save to make, from the free kick, one iffy back pass to deal with, one involvement when Waterfall made his one mistake and one flapped at corner, Yeovil never really looked like scoring despite getting away with several fouls on our centre backs. Liked the look of their number 8, ginger lad, who seemed to pick up a lot of second balls and retained possession well.

We certainly were far from our best but created all the dangerous situations in the match, albeit there were not that many of them, and with Harry’s effort and LJL’s miss could have still had four goals.

Still he wants to build his side up and give them confidence so maybe his comments are not too surprising and with a good striker they would look a very decent team.
