Ive just been reading the latest interview with Hursty about the players he wants to keep, come the end of us season

"The main issue with not being able to send players out on loan is there will be members of the squad who will likely go without any first team football before their contracts run out in the summer."

I know someone posted a list of all the players and their contracts a few weeks/months ago, but I think it was pre-Hurst. It would be interesting to see an updated list and see who all those players who's contracts run out at the end of the season who arent currently in the first team.

Im guessing with the occasional reemergence of Hanson to the team, Im guessing that Green could be on the 'release' list.

Green better be on the release list.
If reports are to be believed he is one of the highest earning squad members, and we aren't really getting value for the outlay are we?

I believe Town have a one year extension option on Pollock's contract which no doubt they will trigger given Prem clubs are hovering allegedly £££

If the takeover hasn't gone through, I'd say it was 50-50

Better get the new owners in quickly then before Phil Day inexplicably offers him less and loses him because he doesn’t know his bottom from his elbow.

Of course everything depends on us surviving the drop, because if we dont, some of those players out of contract may want to leave rather than playing in tier 5. My choice would be as below. A couple of surprises in there

Goalkeepers
1. James McKeown (june 2022)
13. Ollie Battersby (june 2021)                offer new contract
23. Sam Russell (keeper/coach – june 2023)
44. Jake Eastwood (june 2021 – on loan from Sheffield United)

Defenders
2. Luke Hendrie (june 2021)              offer new contract
3. Joe Bunney (june 2021)                offer new contract
6. Luke Waterfall (june 2022)
25. Mattie Pollock (june 2021)                  offer new contract
26. Rollin Menayese (june 2021 –on loan from Mansfield)             make an offer to buy
28. Joey Hope (june 2021)             release
29. Joe Starbuck (june 2021)               release
32. Duncan Idehen (june 2021)              offer new contract
35. Ben Grist (U16)
36. Sam Habergham (june 2021)             offer new contract

Bloody hell. We will need about 1/2 million just to pay those players off!

Of the players that have been here for a bit I’d keep Pollock and Hendrie and Hewitt.

It’s too early to say of the lads on short term deals who’d be worth pinning down longer.

The rest can go and I’d be looking to ditch a few of them that have longer deals.

As we ill be playing in the NL next year, we will have to pick the players suited to that division, i.e the more physical type.

We will need to clear the decks, and so I can see us paying off a large number of the players on longer contracts.

I'd start by signing Eastwood if we can get him.

Get rid of everyone including the board. Maybe some of the new players will change my mind before the end of the season, but I doubt it from what I've seen.

Hewitt would be my first signing. And probably the only one    might struggle to keep him
The keeper, dependent on whether macca leaves
The rest could leave. Keep The Shop cos he'll make a good Christmas present for someone

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Hewitt would be my first signing. And probably the only one

Mateta and Eastwood are the only two that are of a very good standard for this level in my eyes. So it depends, if we go down then I'd sign a few of them up. If we go down only those 2 are decent enough to have us the top end of the table.

Of the players that have been here for a bit I’d keep Pollock and Hendrie and Hewitt.

It’s too early to say of the lads on short term deals who’d be worth pinning down longer.

The rest can go and I’d be looking to ditch a few of them that have longer deals.

I wouldn't be that bothered if Pollock left, I don't really think he has improved at all this season, as for the other two. you're 'aving a laugh.

To be honest I don't think I would be that bothered if we got rid of the lot of them, sadly due to contracts we may not be able to.

Those highlighted red - Holloway you're a twit of the highest order.

Apart from Rose I think you are right. We missed him yesterday, no other midfielder shows for ball from the back four  as much as he does.

the frightening thing is that whatever happens we are going to have to have YET another mass clear out in the summer.
If there was no relegation then its obvious the present team isn't good enough and will need wholesale changes
Just as bad is the fact that very few of the present contracted players look like they'd be a top of the National League squad.
For example Clifton is still not going to be able to pass the ball consistently whatever league we were in, Mayonnaise (if he was signed) would still be a disaster waiting to happen ,even in the National League.
Morais and Coke are still not going to be able to play 90 minutes of every game.
Even in the National League we still don't have any creativity
it's all very depressing

Of the loanees I think we should try and retain Eastwood, Adams and Matete, but I doubt we would get any of them.

The out of contract players I would re-sign would be Pollock and Hendrie.

But essentially we are going to have to have a massive clear out and rebuild which ever league we find ourselves in.

The one crumb of comfort I can cling to is that the new owners will have an entirely different approach to investing in the paying staff. As I have said before, we have to be prepared to sign players that command a fee. Not just freebies that no one else wants.  They are free for a reason.

If you want success on the pitch, then buy good players. Pay them and they will come.

The keeper, dependent on whether macca leaves
The rest could leave. Keep The Shop cos he'll make a good Christmas present for someone

Hewitt was just as crap as the rest of them yesterday.

I haven't been a fan of Rose all season, but I am sure he would have struggled yesterday on that pitch and against Harrogate the way they play, he has never looked like he would be up for a fight in a battle.

It only became a battle in the first half because we just didnt try and retain the ball, same players second half actually played the formation better and we passed the ball around more accurately, first half all the back four did was hoof the ball up the pitch so we never really retained possession, i think the one time we did led to Payne getting a strike on target.  Rose sits in that midfield and takes the ball off the back four and is there to receive it if we play it back, a bit of that yesterday would have been useful.
Harrogate really didnt look all that to me, they profited in wide areas where there were acres of space and the way we defend like schoolboys chasing after the ball it was simple for them to pick off chasing players.
Second half they didnt get the luxury of that so much and we certainly matched them more evenly in the midfield.

I know things are bad, but surely the staff don't have to pay to work for us?!

Your last sentence is very telling. We should have spent whatever money in wages we had for some players who had quality, and would really have made a difference. What we seemed to have got instead is too many average, or indeed below-average players and we are back where we started but with a different team.

Everything is easy in hindsight, and I bet already he is wishing he may have approached things differently, but it seemed to me he felt the survival campaign would really only start when he had his own men in but it has actually got worse; the results have been poor and the performances terrible.

It makes you sick that we are in this position, but that has been well documented and now we have to rely on Hurst to somehow get us looking like a professional football team.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a professional football team give the ball away as easily as we do, nothing new though it’s been like that for a few seasons.

Usually don't like these threads as it's all speculation in regards contract details and ultimately it's down to Hurst, there's also the realistic issue that we don't know what league we'll be in either.

That said, League Two or the Conference, I wouldn't be arsed if we lost the vast majority of this squad overnight.  When I say vast majority, I actually mean every one of them.   I think the only possible exception is probably Matete, who I'll be amazed if he's here next season.

Front front to back we're not good enough and haven't been all season.  The players who I think should and could make a difference (Hanson, Wright and maybe someone like Scannell) are players we've not been able to rely upon.  I'm done with pinning hopes on players who can't play more than 3 games in a row.

What really alarmed me on Saturday, even though there wasn't a single Holloway signing on the pitch, was the lack of fight and leadership.

Payne

I think we could be a touch dramatic saying the whole lot - just the vast majority

I think the above XI is a good base for a solid side

Pollock could be starting again next season but he really seems knackered at the moment from being relied on as a scape goat by Holloway

I believe Town have a one year extension option on Pollock's contract which no doubt they will trigger given Prem clubs are hovering allegedly £££

If this squad doesn't soon get their finger out the only place Pollock and others will be hovering towards will be the Northern PREMIER in a couple of years time.

I have been saying the same for a few weeks now, especially those who are clearly not fit enough to play more than a game or two before being rested or injured and both Holloway and Hurst have been guilty of this.

We have wasted so much money on players that are no where near good enough to play as well as those who probably wont play more than half the games they should.

Eastwood unless released at the end of the season will be too good for non league and probably wont want to play there.

I hope Bunney improves because the two games he has played he has looked poor but will likely be let go.

Hendrie is just not good enough anymore.

Morais, Wright and Rose are not fit enough to play more than a handful of games as well as Rose not showing enough this season to be even picked if he was.

Payne, he will be gone as well.

As for the subs, I really wouldn't want any of them if we will be looking to get out of the National League or if by some miracle we stay in the EFL and not wanting another relegation battle.

Hurst really needs a leader on the pitch, in his first spell that leader was Disley. We don't have anybody like that now. Hurst needs somebody on the pitch who can get the team playing as the manager wants. Hurst can manage but he needs a micro manager in the team. Trouble is where do you find another Disley?

And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot.
No! None of it was true, none of those things we thought we could see existed at all.
All that was really there was still more misery

Realistically those who are on longer contracts who we would naturally be releasing if it was expiring, you'd hope to see them have contracts cancelled by mutual consent with those players accepting to go on the grounds of a lack of first team football next year,

Montel Gibson being the obvious player to have that conversation with. Sean Scannell as well, lets face it I know many Town fans often pick him in preferred line up's or are waiting to see him at his best but for me it's not going to happen for whatever reason. Potentially Ira and Luke Spokes, or if not made available for loan.

It's too early to decide on the players who joined in January, they may pull us out the mire or we may go down in flames. The good thing Hurst has done that Holloway didn't was to offer short term deals as opposed to lengthy contracts. These players know they need to earn their mustard and can't coast.

For me it's clear out time. Short or long term contracts coming to an end let them go. The season so far has shown that none of them are any good. Scannell, Williams, Jackson and Gibson should be paid of.

It'll be a new season, with new owners so an excellent time to put a promotion team together.

Quoted from Nutsy
Eastwood
Hendrie- X-X - Bunney
Morais/Wright - Rose - Matete - Adams/Idris
Payne

Along with Hewitt, Clifton, Spokes, Pollock and maybe Lamy for squad

I think we could be a touch dramatic saying the whole lot - just the vast majority

I think the above XI is a good base for a solid side

Pollock could be starting again next season but he really seems knackered at the moment from being relied on as a scape goat by Holloway
