He's obviously impressed with Idehen ,giving him a lot of game time.just wonder if he being 'groomed' as a ready made replacement for Pollock if Pollock goes in January?
My current football enthusiasm level is close to how I imagine the atmosphere at the new lawn tonight, somewhere between dull and awful. Hoping for a surprise and a continuation of the general upsurge in away team successes but expectation is low UTM
For an opposition side well drilled and well versed in the passing game then its going to be hard work for us off the ball, just hope Morton and Tayor and Idehen dont tire as easily have they have done previously. But if that's a top two then Windsor running off Hanson could be useful
In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD
Lots of chat in the last week about McKeown's supposed ability to bail us out with his saves, but he got a full hand on the shot for the goal and I think he should have done better with it. Can't really blame him mind, we shouldn't be letting them have free shots from the middle of the penalty area.

Cheers mate I know he's a young lad and looks good going forward but he's got to do his share of defending.

Playing like this will result in tears. We will be fighting relegation all season. At the moment we are grateful Oldham, Southend and Scunthorpe look worse than us
None of the players know what they are supposed to be doing, that's not the first time we have said that this season
I'm not so sure you are right here. I would suspect that they know what they are supposed to be doing, but there are 2 teams on the pitch, and the opposition will be just as keen to stop us from playing the way we have been asked to play.
We are keeping possession well just need to actually do something with it when we have it. Feels like nobody really wants the ball up front or we just ping long balls in the hope somebody will get on the end of it.
I’m not sure it’s as bad as people have made out. We’ve kept the ball extremely well and it’s a marked improvement on the past 2 games in that sense, we’ve lacked bite going forward but it’s far from a disaster. FGR had 2 good bits of play all half and scored from one, we’ve absolutely dominated possession against a possession based team.
Windsor and Tilley need to be smarter up top, I also don’t see the benefit of the extra CB tonight, we’d be better off with another body in the middle.
One moment, one player switched off, and its cost us. we are playing alot better than in the last two games for certain but no cutting edge. Tilley and Windsor the only two players who can run at a player, the other 8 far to similar and playing safe.
We’ve waited weeks for Hanson but I’m not convinced we’re playing to his strengths
Not sure Hanson has the mobility for this formation or any formation to be honest. His best days are past. Probably wouldn't get in any other League Two team's starting eleven. Look at him more as a last twenty minute chase the game target man nowadays. Never seen us play well with him up front. Personal preference would be subbing him off and getting more movement and pace on..

I’m not convinced we will be but it ain’t going to be pretty. IH has a big squad but in reality not a lot to choose from at the moment. Only 3 experienced outfield starters tonight.

I think we've done ok - just gave them too much time and space for the goal. Need Tilley and Windsor closer to Hanson when we play it long. Unfortunately we lack pace and feel if Edwards was fit, we'd be winning this. Get one back and we could get two. Let's hope. UTM

Agree with this. If this game had come immediately after the two wins I don’t think there’d be the negativity we’re seeing on here and elsewhere tonight.
Absolute sh1te 45 mins. We have a middle of U23 prem kids who think like Wilkins pass it back or sideways as cant cope when closed down, They are behind the pace of the game, Taylor especially, number of times someone has made a run and been ignored is amazing. 7 times we had the ball wide about 20 yards out and passed it all the way to the half way line and 5 of those times it ended up within 20 yards of our own goal. You dont score goals if you kick in the same direction as the opposition. Refs a homer, Tilly hasn't a clue how to defend or follow a runner, and Pollock isn't good enough to go charging up the pitch with the ball unfortuneately. Hanson has only once got it to one of our own players and we are incapable of passing a ball accurately more than 10 yards and even then its a lottery. Rant over lets hope Ollie sorts it.
Idehen passing straight forward to Hanson marked by two defenders because there are no channel runners. Windsor could switch with Hanson more to pull defenders around. Morton needs to move the ball quicker to get their defenders turning. All their players able to play facing our goal due to our glacial decision making. Best chance of a goal is to catch their keeper off his line or force an own goal. Tilley having to come too deep because our transition is non existent. 442 please, sub Idehen for Gomis.
In the first half we had 67% possession, 282 passes which was exactly double the number of FGR passes, pass accuracy of 78% but not a single shot on target.
Is it though? Still in the game, both sides played football. They took their chance and we didn't.
You are correct, providing that you’re watching on teletext but in reality all we’re doing is giving them the ball back when it goes over the half way line.

Ah, as I said before feel bad for Gibson as he'll become a scapegoat very quickly even though he's played a handful of games at this level. Gomis even less so but people hated him from the start because of his wikipedia stats aren't a 20 goal a season striker.
Can't wait for all the moaning if we don't find a goal.
Thank goodness that's over I wonder what Holloway is going to say tonight, he must be running out of plausible excuses
Its plain that a number of his signings are just not up to it and the sooner he accepts that the better. We are tootless up front and he may as well try the young non league strikers who haven't had a look in yet.
One enormous step forward at last followed by two steps back again
Think we'd do better getting Sissay back...we are woeful up front...AGAIN!...what is it recently with Town having crud forwards...7 on the books and not can hit a cows backside with a banjo!...in all honesty I thought we played some good stuff, Preston needs a rest and we do miss Edwards...
Well i thought that was dire. Midfield weak and create nothing. Set Pieces are awful, which has been a problem for years. And a frontline- bar windsor- who all seem as bad as each other
Settled back 5 in the most part and any six from about 18 players for the rest of the team every game. This won’t help our attacking play cause there’s no understanding built.
Defense looks fairly solid but plenty for Ollie to work on with midfield and attacking options. Plenty of effort but I’m afraid Gibson and Morton nowhere near league two level.

When you can't even take a short corner successfully you know you are in trouble ....that ....and the free kick that just sailed right over the bar when all the big lads are up....
Another 45 of Sh1te, total 97 mins less the 20 FGR used up time wasting (ref finally books one of them for it when it has no effect at 93 mins) and not one decent save required by their keeper we didn't even miss a sitter either. Looked a bit better with 442 but other than the back 4 who seem far more solid playing as a 4, and Macca the odd touch from Gomis. The rest I wouldnt put on the pitch again before Christmas. Get some experienced professionals in.
Oh well another game gone and we look like a non league outfit. Too many inexperianced and young not ready for first team players have been got through the gates. Thought they did better last 15 / 20 mins but no fire power in any of them .Looks like a squad put together to just see us through untill he plug is pulled on this season
Not sure what people are expecting from a team of strangers to be honest. I’ve had the misfortune of joining the praise or grumble facebook page and bloody hell it makes the fishy look measured. Grown men slagging off players who’ve recently made their league debut. We’re clearly trying to play the right way with a young team and better decision making in the final 3rd will take time. The main frustration for me is that we’ve conceded to a basic error again. IMO not tracking your man is as basic an error as Macca’s on Saturday
Just before the usual meltdown a little perspective from the Forest Greeen forum
"Wow, That was a real 'backs to the wall grind out a result graft' for 3 points., Unusual to see us pegged back again and again and with the least posession.Holloway plays a wild game...Mariners dirsupted our style well,.Reduced us to .long balls, often coming staright back at us...but hey a truly mature result".
Part of me thinks the injuries, lack of match fitness, burn out etc..etc.. has tied Ollie’s hands part of me thinks he’s making some wrong calls in terms of shape and what selection options he has.
He’s forgotten more than I’ll ever know in 2 lifetimes but I can’t help thinking a settled shape with as many as possible given a straight run of 3/4 games in a row would help.
Players trying their hardest though and in some cases maybe trying a bit too hard and over complicating things in what should be simple scenarios and opportunities.
"Crombie you would have got to that if you weren't such a fat ba%$@rd" - George Kerr, inspiration from the dug out 70s style
We are solid at the back, which just happens to be where all our experienced players are.
We now need to get some experience into midfield and forward areas. Scannell, Bennett, Clifton and Rose fit and firing would make a big difference to us. Williams too if he can regain the form he had before his injury. Edwards is also a big miss.
Not great at the moment, but not the disaster some are saying. Think we will get better as the season progresses.
FGR are no mugs either. They are a tough nut to crack.
Some of the players are not of the required standard, and given what Ive seen, Im not sure what Holloway was thinking. Its as though clubs rang him up and offered him players, and he hasnt batted an eye-lid.
Of the others most are inconsistent, and that middle is as weak as urine. We aint going anywhere Im afraid, and a long hard season is only a handful of games in.
No need for any management changes, we have enough to survive, but if it hasnt improved 3 months into next season, then the game is up for Bingo Bob.
They call that backs to the wall, are there another 8 teams they've played worst than us?
You see what you want to see. First time they havent been able to have the lions share of possession as is there game. Pinned back (there words) and whilst we were poor in our final third we did control the majority of the game. Like i say you see what you want to see.
Been said by others really. Looking solid enough defensively although we play ourselves into trouble at times for me. Also It's no use having the ball over the half way line and 'keeping possession' by passing back to the keeper via two or three town players for it then to be booted forward. In that case you may as well try something from the midfield point when it's an outfield player kicking the baĺl and he's closer to where he wants to pass it. Also less chance of a costly defensive clanger.
Taylor and morton are similar players, amd neither are as good as clifton, albeit perhaps tidier when passing it short. They are nowhere near as energetic or positive as him. So a midfield 2 of them is going to be not strong enough in getting po ssesion and nowhere near even close to creative enough. However they may be able to keep possession better in meaningless areas to inflate our possesion stats to no game effect.
Windsor has looked good, Tilley has mostly flattered to deceive not actually producing the goods despite odd flashes and nearly moments. Edwards looks pacey and skilful but raw and his decision making looks suspect but understandable as he is young. Hanson does look a reduced player but he is coming back from an awful long layoff. I don't think we are playing to his strengths tho of players running towards him for lay offs. Gomis hasn't caught the eye in his appearances. Gibson looks like he has some useful attributes but his decision making and technique don't look great for this level. We haven't seen Max Wright yet this season, hopefully he will continue his development that he has shown last season.

We didn't control anything in that game including the ball. They pressed us till they scored then sat back and left us to p 1ss about with the ball in our own half for 60 mins.
Saw enough in the Cheltenham and Orient games not to write off the season for some footy fix entertainment, albeit we won't be troubling the top seven. Recruitment and League Two learning curve this season for IH. A few key players back (Rose, Edwards, Williams, Scannell and Clifton), a more settled side with Windsor as the main striker not Hanson, a little bit of belief and confidence and we'll be ok.. Tough watch the past few games though..

Yes I am sure that was there intention. Could almost see Coopers instruction "Let them urine about with it". You almost make me miss "sonofs" match analysis!!
Just really naive in the opposition half, and it’s not just this season we’ve lacked the ‘professionalism’ of other clubs.
Lost count of how many attacks died after we committed daft fouls on full-backs facing their own goal. People can complain about weak refs, the oppo falling over or timewasting as much as they like - and they seem to every week - but I can’t remember the last time I saw a town team slow the game down to the pace we want to play at, or be a bit cute and take the sting out of the opposition.
I’d say as a positive, Gomis looked tricky when he came on. Gibson still looks quite naive, so I’d probably go with Windsor and Gomis on Saturday. We could really do with a win at Stevenage.
The worrying thing is, where on Earth are Rose, Scannell and Mohsni?! 3 experienced pros and it doesn’t appear they can be relied upon. Very disappointing.

We could have had 99% possession and we still couldn't score.
Possession means intercourse all if you don't score and you concede daft goals.
Through the door there came familiar laughter, I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser, For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
How good were FGR, and what impression has Whitehouse made? The stats look pretty favourable in terms of possession 36%-64% .... I ask this as we've got them in the FA Cup and will be looking to rest a few and play a few eager fringe players?

Hard to say. The teams pretty much cancelled each other out for most of the game. They made a couple of threatening moves but not much. Slightly better than us.
Whitehouse looked like he did for the majority of last season. See Morton and Taylor.
I think fans on here want instant success with a team of young players that have been thrown together. It is no coincidence that the teams currently at the top are the ones that have been together as a unit with fewer changes. I like what IH is trying to do, playing football from the back, but we have had years of goofball, and the whole team bunched up on the halfway line for goal kicks etc and it's going to take time. I am old enough to remember Alan Buckley first coming here, with his brand of exciting football. It didn't work overnight and there were similar calls for him to go after the first few games. Luckily we stayed with him and the rest as they say is history.
On another note, it was the best quality picture I have had yet on I Follow. I also listened to the home commentary. What a breath of fresh air it was, commentators actually commentating as they use to, concentrating on the game and not waffling on about everything and nothing. They were very good. They were very complimentary about how we set up to go at them, instead of sitting back like most other teams. They were very fair in their assessment that FGR were hanging on in the end and we could have nicked a point.
I'm not panicking after that. We weren't great, but Village Green are a decent side and we were better than them for big chunks.
We lack creativity and our midfield was lightweight.
We've played 5 of the top 10 and the only team that was really better than us was Harrogate. I suppose you could say Salford based on the result, but that was a bit of a freak result really.
Don't think you can have two thirds of the possession if your midfield is weak. Agree about creativity though. I thought Gomis looked good when he came on, lively with a turn of pace.
We lacked ideas in the final third, but our general play was ok...i was pretty impressed with our passing to be fair. Hopefully we'll come good with a settled attack once everyone is up to speed.
People are going a bit OTT about the loss, but that's football.

Although I agree broadly with what you say, we as fans have waited years and years for "instant success". We seem to be in a perpetual state of building for next season. New managers, new players, new styles of play are a constant way of life at BP.
We always seem to be behind the curve and struggling to make an impact on the top half of the league. We have been mostly patient and loyal as a fan base I think.
Hoping Ollie is the one to change all that and I do think we will get better as the season progresses.

Yes agree. Although I do get annoyed at the constant "he must go" brigade who want instant success I do also think we have been patient. Particuarly with the merry go round of managers and players and all the cliches that go with it.
This season is like no other. Ordinary life is like no other. We cannot judge it like other seasons so from my point of view it's a free pass. I dont think for one minute Ollie would have had four loaned Under 23 players in his team/squad if things had been "normal". Given the age of some of those I dont think Tuesday was as bad as some people were making out. I am actually enjoying seeing some of the young players in our team and yes some need to improve and have more belief but after Tuesday I believe there at least giving there all. We have some decent players to come back in as well. I think we can improve and with all the players we have there I am sure there is a good team in there - we just haven't quite seen it yet!
