Holloway said on iFollow that he has put a call into Burnley to enquire about bringing Benson and Glennon back on loan.

if we somehow get Glennon, then we have the best LB in league 2, without a doubt
Benson would get in half the League 1 teams as well IMO

Both of them on the bench for prem games last season, would flopping love to have them back but surely they will have potential higher level offers but if not well have em on loan easy

What could put us ahead of the game, is the fact they were here on loan last season and were regular starters every game. Burnley will know what they're getting with us! Fingers crossed.

Who knows, they might want to get them sorted higher up at this stage to get them more experience against stronger opposition in the Championship or L1. They might even have somebody else available that suits what we need, they saw their young players get regular starts and did well so it makes sending more players an easier decision.

If those two stay in League 2, I can't see them going anywhere else. If they stay at Burnley or go higher, nobody can level any criticism at Holloway. These 2 on loan for the season would be better than anyone we could tempt here permanently I'm sure.

I can’t see why the club themselves would’ve drawn attention to this if there wasn’t any substance to it.

Don’t think either are ready for the championship yet especially Glennon but L1 or 2 definitely. I think we’d be well placed to take them if they came back down to this division however if they have offers from above then obviously we’re going to struggle but who knows.
I thought both did well last season but Benson already looked a class above L2 for me. Laser guided passing that we haven’t seen at BP in a long time.

For me it was glennon above benson. His performance at Bradford was one of the best ive seen for a long time

Among their many positive attributes is that they have pace and can last for 90 mins. Don’t think that there’s any town supporter who wouldn’t be absolutely delighted to have them back. I must say I didn’t think that we would have a sniff of getting them back but - just in case they might read this forum (u never know!)- we’d love to see u back here. They would know that they’d get game time fellas and good footballers want to be playing In proper games don’t they?

Thing is, if Burnley are happy with their progress at BP under Ollie, they'l be more than happy to punt (either of) them back again, surely? At the level Ollie works at you assume he's probably got a decent working relationship with Sean Dyche so don't really see an issue of they still both need game time?

I do think this might be a case of clubs 'warehousing' players, though. They get them young, get them to sign a long deal, then farm them out to see how they get on. This is fair enough and totally their prerogative, but it seems there's such a small percentage of players for whom this actually works. By and large, these players are just kept on in the hope they miraculously become Premier League players, or as a much more likely Plan B, they'll be sold for a profit. Take the lad at Morecambe who's been mentioned; at 22, and sent there for another season, do Burnley REALLY think he'll become a Burnley 1st team regular? Very unlikely. Sometimes you've just got to let players go rather than stringing them along.

Both Burnley and Sunderland know that we look after their uoung players on loan and give them every opportunity to shine.
Surely Holloway will use that fact to the fullest to bring good young and hungry players into.the club this year, and he will look after them.properly.

At the end of the day, both of their professional playing careers consist of about 10( league two games. It’s not as if they’re gonna walk into a championship side.

Sometimes it’s more about a players progression and what particular level they play at may not be a measure.
Glennon has started around a dozen senior games and Benson around the same so a loan back to our level would arguably progress them after a promising start.
All that said I don’t think we’ll see them in Town shirts but would be more than happy if we did.

Ollie is a wily old fox.
He has gone public on this for a number of reasons
1 it’s sorted. They are coming 2 it’s a smokescreen, they were never coming but it avoids criticism for not getting someone else 3 it’s a wake up call to Burnley or the two chaps to make their minds up.
I am sure there are many more reasons why Ollie is reported to have made a call, but time will tell.

Thats like saying Claude Makelele was no good cos he didn't score goals. Hessenthaler's job was to sit in front of the back 4, break up play, win the ball and keep it. I thought he did it very well. I think he was one of the top players (if not THE top player) in League Two for number of tackles won last season. And I think playing in a Holloway team with better movement off the ball he'd be capable of doing more on the ball too. Holloway's already said he won't be going back to sign players we've let go anyway though so he won't be coming back.

Because of Hess’s injury v Stevenage, we never got to see him and Benson together. In the Exeter warm up, I commented that i hadn’t seen a Town player with a better first touch since Trevor Whymark. Bensons ability alongside Hess’s engine would be mighty in L2.

Maybe more to do with him passing forwards about once every three games. His break up play was superb, but he was far more capable of playing football than what we saw for the most part. Maybe it was Jolley's tactics, but watching Hess pass the ball sideways and backwards under zero pressure was painful to watch.

That was it Jolleys tactic under Ollie he would have been told to pass it forward or drive on with it. We shall never know now.

I didn't not rate him cos he didn't score goals I think he was overrated and some people on here were way over the top about him, when all he contributed was tidying up work I will qualify it by saying in our current midfield (Hess/Clifton/Hewitt/Wright/Tilley) I would not be confident at all it's a midfield that gets you promoted or in play offs
But if we get Benson and another crafty midfielder then I'd be happy for him to have been retained
I guess for me Hess is one of many L2 workmanlike midfielders - and you can't have too many of that type if you want to be at top end of table

Hess is quite easily the best of those 5 players, though? He is the only out of those with anywhere near any kind of consistency. Admittedly, I've not seen much of Tilley.

It made the late Ray Wilkins a rich, and much capped, player. said to be nicknamed the Crab because of his sideways movement, but numerous managers saw far more in him than that. Have to admit I didn't, but I never got past managing in the old Grimsby Saturday league.

Hess was great at doing what he was told to do. You can't fill your midfield with creative players. You need one of them to keep it simple and Hess was happy to do that. I'm sure he has more than that in his locker but we never really got to see it.

I hope that Sean Dyche has appreciated the progress at League 2 level for a quick dozen games and will allow both players a full hardening up season at this level before easing them up the league ladder.
If not - who might be the next layer to loan out to a caring club who look after young progressing talent?

Hess was a better performer in usually an average or poor Team with equally as poor tac tics for the majority of his time with Town.
You become better when you play with better players and he didn’t have that opportunity.
The lack of goals was a concern but if other people had picked up some of the work he had to do who knows he might have done better in that dept.
He at some point will come back & haunt us I’m sure.
