IF there’s a conspiracy about this I’d put my money on the Americans spreading it in China to slow their economy down. Iran has been hit badly too. The only surprise* is it hasn’t hit the third member of the central powers, Russia.

China makes up about 20% of the world economy. Deliberately knackering their economy would only knacker your own so no need for conspiracy theories. The Russkies are rather xenophobic so probably don't travel east all that much. Possibly a reason why there hasn't been much going on there? On the other hand, they are probably authoritarian enough to keep any outbreak hush hush!

We're on the third generation of the fantastically named snowflakes now where everything is a drama.
The buzzword this week is self isolation, or as we used to call it, stop in if you're a bit sniffly.

With a potential 1% mortality rate in the event of a major pandemic, it's a bit more than being a 'bit sniffly'. Unless you think half a million additional deaths in the UK is nothing to be concerned about? Most of the deaths would be in the elderly and those with pre-existing health problems, but it would still be enough to pretty much break the NHS in the shorter term and would quickly overwhelm resources of the local authorities. And that's assuming that there isn't any further mutation in the disease. SARS had a mortality rate around 10%, MERS around 35%.

Difficult to decide how this one is going to turn out. When there is a bad flu season nobody makes particular efforts to avoid catching it (other than the obvious ones), but then it is just generally the elderly and those who are already ill who die from it. Others just suffer for a week or two if they catch it.

With this disease, certain healthy, younger people will also lose their lives in addition to the usual elderly and ill victims.

I suppose the question is, how many of those who are surviving this illness are doing so because of the medical treatment they are receiving? Would they have survived in any case? If medical intervention is required to save some of these lives, the relative lack of resources here will be the kicker. I've been reading that we have very few ITU beds in comparison to most of our neighbours and these will quickly be overwhelmed with a major outbreak.

For a disease which has only infected 50 people that we know of (so far) in the UK, the reaction seems to be a bit OTT. If it is relatively difficult to catch, I suppose it depends just how long people with the disease are infectious before symptoms start appearing. That's one thing we've not heard much about in the media so my guess is that this is remaining unsaid for a reason and there are a lot of folk with the disease without so much as a sniffle who are continuing as normal, unknowingly infecting others.

I expect the situation will be a lot clearer come the start of next week.

Ruskis are all over SE Asia.  Who towns are swamped with them with signs and menus all in Russian.

That's the problem with this virus.  Many people have very mild symptoms so they walk around with a sniffle infecting more and more people.  Other feel like they are drowning and need oxygen. I wouldn't wanna be hospitalised and stuck in a stuffy ward.  Fresh air and sunlight is good for you .  Not much of the latter in blighty though.

A few months ago I would have agreed with you mate. Even Tuesday's excrement show was partly entertaining.

The wife said I have to stop kissing the dog.

A certain proportion of the population (regardless of age and health) have a serious immune response to this virus which makes them critically ill with severe pneumonia. This is why, for example, the young, healthy Chinese doctor credited publicising this disease, despite pressure from the authorities, died.

Most people will be OK. Some won't.

Note that in Italy, mortality rate is over 3%, which is a good bit higher than China. Many times more deadly than regular flu. The problem is that the countries in the far east are prepared for this sort of a disease following the SARS outbreak. They have the specialist beds and equipment used to treat the most severe cases. We don't. If there is an epidemic, as seems likely, we simply don't have the specialist beds, equipment and training to save those who fall most seriously ill. It's a serious concern and it wouldn't surprise me if things progress so quickly this week that the Carlisle game is cancelled. Good luck to us all.

Yes, there is a conspiracy around this and it's to do with the level at which certain labs are rated at with Bio Safety Levels (BSL). Allegedly a corona virus was weaponized in a level 4 lab in Australia and then ended up in a level 3 lab in Wuhan.

This current outbreak was written about in one of Dean Koonz books 'The eyes of darkness'

Even as conspiracy theories go, that's a pretty flipping stupid one. Why would Australia share a weaponised virus with China (even if they created one?). They aren't allies and you don't tend to hand around chemical and biological weapons to other countries for fun.

Isn't the source of this disease more to do with the wild animal trade in China?

Whose to say it was shared, where there is money to be made and who knows what goes on with the world of elites. Sadam was funded by the Yanks when they were up against Iran, and Sadam used chemical weapons on the marsh arabs.

Let me make a conspiracy theory off the cuff, take what China is doing with a certain religious group and the problems Australia were having with a certain religious group. After China has re-educated the Uighurs, and after Australia's help in weaponising CV19, China send thousands of re-educated Uighurs to spread that re-education in Australia and neutralise a potential threat in Australia. Is this likely to have happened no, is there potential for it, yes there is.
