Seeing as a lot of other football clubs forums are running a thread for this I'd thought I'd start one, it's not every day an England team play in a World Cup Final.

Town and any England team my only teams, come on England.

To keep it football related other forums are asking would you take 3 points today or England to win the Rugby World Cup ?

I think we all know the answer to that, 3 points obviously

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Rugby World Cup.....sorry!

3 points would only mean 16th instead of 17th come next May.

Really don't understand the intricacies but the referees seem to play a pivotal role when interpreting the laws.

England haven’t got going yet apart from a 10 minute spell. Sprinkbok defence has been excellent, won’t be many tries in this but whoever gets the first one is the favourite for me.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Not looking like we're going to have much of a chance the way it is going. Losing every scrum and they are milking the points too easily. We're going to have to somehow nick a couple of tries to get a chance but haven't really been close yet.

Well, we're still just about in it. Couldn't really say anybody has excelled for us and they are exploiting our weaknesses excellently well.

I’ve watched 5 minutes of it and it’s a re-run of when these two played in 2007.  Completely negative. Anyone who has paid £1000 to watch that sh#t must be seething.

I’m open minded on all sports and give rugby the benefit of the doubt every now and again, but it is always a mistake. It’s always a waste of 80 minutes.

England deserve to be beaten, their tactics are appalling ( I have already confessed I’ve only seen a few minutes though, admittedly!). But I do still think that rugby is a flawed sport with silly rules, it’s almost anti-sport.

As good as England were against the all blacks  South Africa have been as good as against England, game plan executed, played to their strengths, didnt make as many mistakes and took their chances.

Always nice to see England succeed in any sport but egg chasing like watching paint dry for me.

I did notice a kind of 'England have got it in the bag' it's a forgone conclusion kind of attitude in the media which even with no knowledge of either teams still thought a dangerous one to have.

Watched every game and England have given their all ,

One game too many the players were out on their feet after last weeks effort and had nothing left in the tank,

Anybody not following the tournament  but watched this morning might think they bottled it but they were just knackered

At least they have won it before and also got to 2 other finals which is better than the England football team.

But Pete, it’s a sport only played on these shores, Australasia, S Africa and France - it’s no great achievement really, the competition is limited.

Unfortunately EVERY country plays football, and I’d say around 100 countries are at least half decent at it - to win the football World Cup would be an incredible thing because of that, and unfortunately I think last year was the real chance and it wasn’t taken.

I can't stand rugby but to give it it's due it doesn't have any prima donna's falling over at the slightest touch, arguing with the ref or acting as though they have won the lottery when they score a simple tap in. The only positive is Matt Dawson making a fool of himself yet again.

Goes to prove yet again that ex-players don't necessarily make the best pundits.,just like football one's.
He got all six points wrong.
He should stick to game shows...

They were dominant in the scrum and it's almost impossible to win games when that is going against you. Added to that, too many errors in the first half leading to easy points and we didn't have much of a chance chasing the game.

I'd equate their style of play as being the same as a long ball football team full of big, athletic players looking for set pieces. Very well executed, however, and we just couldn't cope on the day. They've always had a load of bruisers who can play a bit and we didn't deal with them.

The way Japan played the game I'd take it for a spectacle over most Premiership games - incredible pace and skill...but they came up against the Bok brick wall as well...

The better team on the day won the game. Last week it was England, this week SA. I have sympathy for the players who clearly gave their all. However we can rest assured they will be consoled and no doubt counselled by Prince Harry to ensure they suffer no lasting emotional damage.

I must admit though to one other mean and nasty thought, it is nice to see those know-all experts and journos, who had been predicting a walkover for England since the semi win over NZ, now getting their words rammed down their throats or up their laptops.

Nice to see Prince Harry fly to the other side of the world for an 80 minute rugby match, despite "climate change being a race against time and one in which we are losing".
Still I suppose it was important like Meghan's tennis match in New York.

To be honest, I thought we'd be in trouble pretty much as soon as Cole came on. I've seen him struggle in the scrum too often over the years, despite the number of caps he's won. Also, Daly has struggled in the past in aerial challenges. I know he's getting on a bit, but might somebody like Mike Brown have done a better job in that position?

Brown is 34, Daly 27. We lost control in the scrum, Marley and Sinckler should have been the prop picks.

Day's relative youth doesn't do him much good if he loses the aerial challenges. I know he's quite quick and can kick it a long way but that wasn't much use in yesterday's game.

Obviously, the fact that their scrum overpowered ours was the biggest issue. Bad luck about Sinckler as well, of course. The commentators seemed to think that Cole was better than him in the scrum, however?

Easy with hindsight to say in that one game that Brown would've coped with the aerial bombardment better but Daly has offered vastly more than Brown would have in a fantastic run to the final. Brown is solid defensively but offers too little in attack.

Our scurm problems were on the Loosehead side and lack of grunt from the second row. At this level its all about mm - Marler and Kruis come on, we win a scrum penalty and the normally reliable Farrell misses by little more than the width of the post. Farrell kicks that and its a 3 point game with plenty of time to go. If we'd got some territory and put the Boks under pressure then they may have cracked. They defended twenty odd phases in the 22 in the first half but you can't keep that incredible defensive discipline for the whole game under constant pressure - the old Liverpool FC.way. We made more passes and more possession but made nothing from it because of handling errors ruck turnovers and our dodgy set piece - hence there was no continuity. The Boks didn't have it either but didn't need it because they kept the scoreboard ticking with the pens.

Mtawarira is probably the best loosehead in the world. He may well have given Sinckler every bit as much trouble as he did Cole and more. Sinckler would have offered more in the loose though. We didn't lose because Sinckler got injured or Daly is too small - they comprehensively outplayed us throughout.

I would have thought playing any sport when your head is loose would be very dangerous, surely it would be covered by the concussion rules, no wonder he can't spell his name properly

There is a tighthead as well on the other side, the hooker is in the middle...and sometimes pops up for air if the pressure gets too much...

Minority sport for southerners.

What about the Northern RU teams like Leeds and Newcastle plus all the Scottish teams. You could easily argue football is a more Southern sport with all the clubs south of the Midlands and especially the London clubs.

Rugby clubs in all the big northern cities are older than the football clubs.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
