It is frightening to read how hand to mouth the game now is even at the supposedly higher levels. But there will always be those who want to try and live beyond their means and think that every promotion equals salvation.

Take our club. If we do well we get decent gates and we may go up. In L1 we start with decent gates but unless we are challenging again for the playoffs at least, the gates will go down and life becomes a struggle against the drop ...... even if you have a bankroller. Lower gates than the promotion year in the league below but higher wages. Ask them down the road at Glanford Park.

If by some mackerel we got promoted to the Championship the issue is the same but worse. The risks are even greater, the fall is even further. But we have to try don't we?

Exactly we would have missed out on such great managers like Mike Newell and Russell Slade MK2 and also missed out on possibly our greatest ever seasons in the Conference.

To be fair were we not living beyond our means in the last Division One years? Zhang on 11k etc etc.

Think most clubs over the years have a few years of boom then bust, just now the boom and bust are on a monumental scale.
