Surely Hurst wouldn't jump ship at Shrewsbury

"Sheffield-born Paul Hurst says he is 'fully-focused' on his job at Shrewsbury Town, despite his name being linked to the vacant job at boyhood club, Wednesday".

Haha. Whatever. Somebody should ask old 'Sniffer Doig'. If he says he knows absolutely nothing about it whatsoever, get your money down!

Good on him if he does get it. He’s a safe choice and organises sides well, he’s done a cracking job at Shrewsbury this season considering where they were when he took over last season.

It is a good opportunity Weds are a Premier Club in the making and are more than capable of pulling in 30k every home game.

He might have ambitions to finish job at Shrews. but nobody could blame him-he has ambition certainly but don't think he would break his contract -whatever it is. I think he does stand by principals.

Hope he doesn't as I have a substantial sum on Shrewsbury to get promoted! Don't go Paul!

If he leaves Shrewsbury now they'll become the first club he's managed that he hasn't got promoted.

He may want to keep that record going. But then again this could be too big an opportunity to turn down.

His dream job I think  he’ll take it if he gets offered it, but personally feel he’s more suited to  small clubs like Shrewsbury just think he’s not a big club manager with all that comes with it

Top manager who deserves a top club
Big question mark would be could he motivate and/or gain the respect of way better footballers than he's used to dealing with?

He wouldn't need to, He'd re-sign Lenny, Rodman, Nolan and Toto! Worked at Shrewsbury against expectations, probably do the same at the massive Owls...

Tough decision for him to make - if indeed it's his to make.

Can you imagine his weekly wage at Boston - or us, for that matter - compared to what he'd likely get at Wednesday? Could set him up for life, although I'm pretty sure he'll care more about being a successful manager first.

His stock is high at the moment, and it can only rise because losing in the play-offs would still be seen as overachieving at the Shrews.

I'd try and see the job through if I were him. There will always be another big club hunting a new manager in the summer. Just depends on how much he loves Wednesday really.

He would get a free pass for the remainder of this season, then be expected to mount a challenge next season, anywhere between £5k and £15k a week wage, near home, I bet he's got his car pointed in their direction already.

Amazing opportunity if he was to be offered the Wednesday job. Even if he takes it and it doesn't go well he'd get a massive pay off and walk in to another job in league 1. If he's offered it he'd be mad to turn it down, it's so tight at the top of league 1 they could easily drift out of it and he'd still be looking at jobs like Wednesday if they got promoted.

Wednesday are is boyhood club, he says they could be a  Premier League club, his home is in Sheffield no travelling, he would be confident enough with Sniffer to go there and succeed.

He would earn ten times as much as he does now and if offered the job would take it, he`s no fool.
Shrewsbury are a glorified Cheltenam, Sheffield are a big club with history, you only get these chances now and again loyalty does not come into it

It'll be interesting to see if he does leave who Shrewsbury poach next.  Its ok having a good manager and eventually they move on....its about the next one coming in.  Look at Lincoln its all love in the air atm but as soon as the Cowleys leave they could end up appointing another Simpson and down the drain they go.

Thing is i think Hurst needs a couple of years to get things how he likes them generally, would he get that time in the higher leagues where success is generally bought?
He is used to scrimping and saving and being shrewd, would he know what to do with a large amount of spending money, he would have most likely look abroad for players too which is probably out of his comfort zone.

At the shrews i reckon he is guaranteed 3 years of employment if they go up.

Wednesday would be behind the recently ex-Prem teams in budget though with their parachute payments so he will be on a tight budget relatively speaking.

Funny how everyone on here rates Hurst these days. His 'boring' post match interviews and 'Yorkie' accent don't seem quite so important now.

Maybe a number of people have seen how he's turned shrews around , reflected on what he did here and maybe compared that to what's happened since he left.

Hurst is a winner, he’s won everywhere he’s been. I’m still a bit gutted he decided to leave us to be honest, but don’t blame the guy after the seemingly lack of support from the board, and the vitriolic abuse he received during our promotion, yes promotion season.

You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone indeed.

There was a tendency to focus on the 'little' things and hold them against him, rather than looking at the 'big' things.

History will show that Paul Hurst got us back in the Football League with a 50% win ratio.

He brought some very good players to the town.

History will also show he went onto another club and turned their fortunes around drastically.

Yes, we got caught up with his lack of Plan B, stubbornness, ear-cupping reaction at Wembley, bringing Parslow on when 2-0 up at Chester and his Yorkshireness and so-called dour interviews.

But those were the little details. On reflection, they didn't really matter because the bigger picture is that he's been our most successful manager since Alan Buckley, whether you like to read that or not.

There's also the big club mentality still at play with some, who thought we had a divine right to be in the football league, and Hurst the easy job of guiding us there. In reality, it is a truly difficult task to get any team out of that league, just ask Wrexham, Luton, Tranmere, Hartlepool, Leyton Orient, Macclesfield etc

If Wednesday are happy to build to get success Hurst could be their man.He has promotions on his CV from each club he managed prior to his current role.

In his current role he dragged them off the bottom of their league to safety in his first 6 months/season and in the 2nd season has them in a good place to go up, not many managers can say that.

If he does not go to a club the size of Wednesday now I am sure he will do in the future.

Good luck to him he clearly works hard and anyone who grafts deserves success.

Hurst has proved himself as a very capable manager in the lower leagues. Done a good job wherever he's been. Built a consistent contender at Town and finally got us promoted and turned Shrewsbury from relegation strugglers to promotion hopefuls.

He's done his apprenticeship so to speak.

Loyalty?? There is none in football. These days a manager is probably only half a dozen bad results from the sack....no matter what he may have achieved before. So i wouldnt blame any manager to want to improve themselves given the chance. Wednesday would be a step up from Shrewsbury with much greater potential to take them further.

His connections to the club would make it a no brainer should he be offered the job.

Good luck to him.

Funny how everyone on here rates Hurst these days. His 'boring' post match interviews and 'Yorkie' accent don't seem quite so important now.

I would take Hurst's dour interviews over Slade's stuttering slime that he spews out.  I feel Slade is just trying to say what he thinks the fans want to hear.

It's a hard choice for Hurst (if he is offered the job), Go for the money or go for the stability? Does he have the nous to manage players who think they're big time charlies, there's a massive step up from us and Shrews, compared to a club the size of Sheff Wed.  I guess only time will tell.

Maybe a number of people have seen how he's turned shrews around , reflected on what he did here and maybe compared that to what's happened since he left.
What's the old saying about never knowing what you've lost until it's gone?

There's another saying " You don't know what you don't want until you've got it "

I wasn't his biggest fan when he was here and now he has gone I don't give a toss who he manages.

Come, come now-nobody hated him. Most of what was said was just frustrated jovial banter. At least it was on my part. To me he seemed to take most of the criticism pretty well [except odd times] and he has certainly proved himself a decent manager.   Go for it Hursty.

Agreed.  Its about time some clubs took the eddie howe approach.  McClaren is just another manager on the merry go round.

Would take Hurst over Mcclaren any time but probably Poyet over both of them . I was a fan of Hurst but when he cupped his ear all of his integrity rubbish that he spouted sounded very hollow. No problem with moving on this is life but with some respect utm

But it was o.k. for Omar to do it to the FGR fans on the same day? never lose sight of the abuse Hurst took even on the eve of his biggest game for the club some idiot was around the town putting up "Hurst Out" banners. If it was me after Halifax away I would have just stuck two fingers up and walked away the fact he didn't and saw the job through and beyond indicates he had good integrity.

I'd much rather have a manager who is in the position to do a cupping gesture in a play off final than one who isnt.

How strange.

I jokingly referred to the boardroom using the same word and it got deleted by Rob.

Anyone would think there are double standards on here 🤔

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Who are you Hurst's female dog?  So now I'm a racist? WTF You dont even know me you  absolute sack of excrement. At least try and back this up with a quote of mine come on I will give you a couple of days to trawl through them.

Oh now I remember you, and yes I'm still anti mass uncontrolled immigration that's it, it's the only time I recall you having a pop, this doesn't make me a racist but it does make you a PC far left virtue signalling fxxking idiot.

It's because of far left sharp objects like you over using the word racist that it's not even that offensive to be called one these days you've totally watered it down well done 👏🏻 in fact I'd be more upset if a cultural Marxist sharp object like youself didn't think I was racist.😂

Not really he would have thrown his  a job away
Which would have been foolish. I was a staunch Hurst fan and wish him well but there is a difference between the reaction of a manager and a player in my eyes.
