Alfreton V Gateshead
Chester V Telford
Dover V Torquay
Eastleigh V Dartford
Halifax V Forest Green
Kidderminster V Nuneaton
Woking V Altrincham
Wrexham V Bristol Rovers

Could do with favours from Dartford and Altrincham tonight but both games seem nailed on home wins, but as we well know, that's not always the case.

Gateshead could easily slip up at Alfreton though who are battling for every point.

Halifax and FGR to draw would be best for us and Wrexham to take something off Bristol would be good.

In the Conference, it generally seems to be the teams who do least wrong who succeed.

Perhaps that's just a pessimist's view?

Sooo.......4th now....with two more teams able to pull level on points if they win their games in hand......and Woking able to put 4 points between us and 2nd place if they win their game in hand...
December will be a very interesting month, lose a couple and we could be 10th...winning games this month is now more of keeping in with the pack and hanging onto the shirt tails of Barnet rather than reeling them in and overtaking them.
A strong December is essential.

So , on the assumption that we should have got points against " lower " opposition , knowing that an odd game would have been lost . How many points should we have  ?   I think we should have at least another 8  . Games that we should have , and would have , if only  someone could have .

Maybe yeah. Obviously, as you say, you're always going to lose or draw the odd game that you don't deserve to, or a piece of controversy robs you and such like, but it's the 'non performances' that have cost us. The repeated, similar and not 'one-off' non-performances. Indeed, there's another half a dozen points or so that we've squandered.

Yes maybe 8 but how many games have we got points when we may not have expected them? I'd say maybe 8 so we are where we are.

Yeah, fair point. I suppose the subtext is, across all those games, there have been lots of matches where we just haven't played like a team with genuine promotion credentials.

The way I see it is that we will still be in a play off position on Saturday. Only three teams can catch us on points, however we have a better goal difference than two of them.(Halifax and Gateshead). Eastleigh have three games in hand, they could go  2nd !! And only 4 points off the leaders!

Another way of looking at the situation is how many more goals in significant games would have got us points ?? - one more goal in each of the drawn games = 10 extra points on the board, so although the "goals against" is looking ok at present, the "goals for" could be improved with significant resulting points on the table.

Several wasted chances against Woking being the recent example of dominating play but not making it count, going behind and then scrambling for a draw !!

However you look at the "if they do this, if they win that" business, Barnet are sitting up the top there letting the rest of the substandards get on with it.

That's where I want Town to be, not pillocking about scraping into 5th place. It is not good enough and there are no valid excuses.

Well perhaps our position in the table will concentrate minds on the essentials for success, which is the need for another quality striker at least,  and a more positive management after match speak

it might be in towns best interest for the other teams to be winning ,closing the gap on the impressive  barnet will put them under pressure and make it into a free for all. Towns strong squ ad will then come to the fore and we can power through th peace in March and win the title at Easter. See? Easy!

Still dont understand where the strong squad argument comes from.....we have sent squad players out on loan so obviously not considered good enough, we have a couple of players who hardly make the bench and certainly dont make it onto the pitch, presumably as PH doesnt fancy them, and we are now upto 5/6 loans or short term deals, again indicating that the original assembled squad wasnt adequate.....and....we still are waiting for a striker !!!!

It was said with my tongue lodged in the side of my cheek meza! If town were ever to get out of this godforsaken league it'll inevitably be a skin of the teeth last minute desperation stakes scenario. When have town ever done anything the easy way?

I would think that we lose more points to teams at the bottom that other top teams.  But why?  Are we less-motivated than other top teams when playing these so called "easier" teams?  I am sure that lower league teams don'y try harder against us.   Is it a factor that we don't take our chances, as evident last Sat?

When we play at top teams away we have secured all 3 points on more than 1 occasion (eg, Gateshead, Torquay and Wrexham). These results show the high-level of performance that we can achieve. It is frustrating when we cannot sustain this level more often.

It is unfair to single out one player who is more like to play well against the better teams, but then poorly against the lower-league teams.   But I will..............Neilson.

If we had a fit Hearn then we would have picked up more points against poor teams - certainly from the chances that we have created.

That is is as far as I can go with this issue.
