In a sequel to Old Football Grounds how many of these old nations have you seen England play (on TV). I reckon I have seen at least five.
Aden British Guiana British Honduras British India Bohemia Burma Central African Republic Ceylon Commonwealth of Independent States Congo-Kinshasa Congo-Brazzaville Czechoslovakia Dahomey Dutch East Indies East Germany Gold Coast Ireland (not ROI) Netherlands Antilles New Hebrides North Borneo North Vietnam North Yemen Northern Rhodesia Palestine, British Mandate Romania Rhodesia Saar Serbia and Montenegro Siam Southern Rhodesia South Vietnam South Yemen Soviet Union Sudan Suriname Tanganyika Taiwan United Arab Republic Upper Volta West Germany Western Samoa Yugoslavia

Christ Rob,
The England v North Borneo game would have been a sell out...
BTW Why is Romania in there?

Because we used to spell it Rumania?

Anyone we played in the World Cup or Euros will have been on TV so my list would include
W Germany USSR E Germany Czechoslovakia Serbia&Montenego Romania? Yugoslavia
There was also a Rest Of The World international that I think was broadcast in 1963 as part of the FA Centenary.

I would hazard a guess that it was supposed to be Central African empire, a nation that no longer exists

The list came from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FIFA_country_codesIt says: "The following codes are obsolete because a country has ceased to exist, changed its name, changed its code, or has become part of another country." I guess some of them have changed their code

Also being an old git, I have seen all of the above, I might have seen more but can not remember, BUT I do watch a lot of football.

We beat them 3-1 in 1970 and 1-0 in 1984.

I have just checked and we also played them in East Germany in 1963 winning 2-1,
AND
In 1974 drawing 1-1
I think I watched them all.

We never played them in a competition but I seem to think we did have friendlies as warm ups for the Euros & World Cup. I can remember the 1970 and 1984 games being shown, probably only as highlights though.

Didnt Nigel Martyn make his debut against the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in about 1992?

England have definitely played both Southern and Northern Rhodesia, albeit whether they are classed as full internationals for the purpose of earning a cap I'm not 100% sure.
The list you have there Rob misses out many teams that England, or more commonly the Football Association on tour, have played - especially in Africa / South Africa like Griqualand West, Natal Province and the orange Free State. I used to have a number of programmes involving "England" in Africa in the 1950's, and they can still be picked up relatively cheaply, usually for between £15 to £20 each.

I bet Pete listened to the game against Saar on the wireless. Shortly before the Hun took it back again.

I extracted the full list of games we have played from EnglandStats.com. Unfortunately they are only in country codes, but here are the 87 different countries we have played, and the number of times for each one
