Could ched Evans be the quick term fix apon his release in a few weeks time? Controversial but possible?
Quality player offer him a chance to make a name for himself again. Decentish regular wage. Show faith in him and he'll prove most wrong. Served his time and is not a trouble causer like some?
Question on fitness but I'd like to think he's kept in shape.
We need to do summit and we are the barmy club of all time.

He'll have offers from much higher up than us.
I wouldn't be against him coming here, he's served his time. Call it controversial but judging on a lot of the evidence in his case it's still very very debatable whether or not the right verdict was even reached in the first place.

Sheffield United might not want him back just yet,
So a season long loan will be ideal,
He will get us promoted and will have done some work for the community ( well Grimsby's )
Then he can return to Sheffield a free man.

Nothing would be "ideal" for a convicted rapist to wear the black and white stripes. Too right I'm not going to like it....

Pretty sure he was sacked upon his conviction so he will be a free agent. Unquestionably will have offers much higher up than us though.

Unbelievable. The man is a convicted rapist and someone says, oh well, he's served his time. You gotta be joking, right ?
UTM
Are you expecting every single person who has ever been in prison to come out and never work again? It's a topic that has been gone over many times before. The punishment is there for a reason, that is what is set by the court. It isn't 5 years with the add on of 10 years of no work when you get out. Quite how Evans was ever convicted of rape is absolutely beyond me when you consider the evidence.

Sounds fairly plausible. If he wants first team football I think he's gonna have to drop to our level, at least for the time being. I can't imagine he'll ever reach the championship again anyway, but who knows. He'll have a house in Sheffield so not far and hopefully his mate will have good words to say about the club. Or will he....?
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

I think this crime (no matter what you think- he was found guilty by a court of law) means i would never support him a town shirt. He's a very very good striker, but hes a convicted rapist. So no. No never

It's taken a while but I agree with every word of the first bit of this... Where we separate is around the view that somehow the courts got it wrong. I cannot remember but I'm pretty sure that there would have been an appeal which presumably, as he still served his sentence', failed....

Solution - flash some cash......to somewhere like Lilleshall to sort out why Pittman & Arnold are constantly getting injured - either of their physical conditions being solved would be like signing the goal scoring striker we need - both have shown real glimpses of quality - let's put some money into top class national standard treatment to get them 100% cured and fit, or at least know if they are season long liabilities???
Or is that too simple an answer ???

Very valid point. As on another post, if the Arnold situation is a genuine injury, then we should have had it sorted a long time ago.

Could either player benefit from a professional study for some type of orthopaedic boot fitting to prevent strain on limbs, hamstrings, or to correct defective muscle lengths??
Similar to people having cushion soles against high impact or heel damage for instance?
I know that from wearing safety boots for many years for work, that a cushion sole and an extra inner sock can prevent soreness and heel pain.
Think out of the box for once !!

I think it was Crawley last season who employed a highly qualified specialist Strength & Conditioning coach for about a month pre season. They had less injuries than any other FL club. They treated pre season not as an old fashioned boot camp but focused on prevention of injuries by preparing properly in a modern, scientific way. What would Town do if offered such services?

Me too. If Town players want to kick the living shít out of taxi drivers for no apparent reason then they can fill their boots as far as I'm concerned (as long as they're half decent), but rape, now that's just not very nice...

What I don't understand is how was Clayton MacDonald found not guilty but Ched Evans was found guilty, when they were both arrested for the same thing? Surely they were both guilty or not guilty, not one guilty and the other free to go

I'm not preaching to anyone or saying it's an easy to reconcile, clear cut issue. Just that I personally would feel uncomfortable supporting and cheering a convicted rapist. For those who take the 'he's done his time' stance, what would you say if we signed a convicted paedophile?

I'm not suggesting you were. I was merely pointing out that football fans, and people in general for that matter, are selective with their morals when it serves their own purpose. If Town signed Ched Evans (which we won't of course) and he went on to score 30 goals this season, securing promotion in the process, the majority of fans would either 'forget' his conviction or seek to rationalise it somehow ("he should never have been sent down in the first place" etc.). That's just the way it is.

As a tax paying, law abiding (probably) citizen of a democratic society i have to accept that the penal system is what it is.....time done free man. Also its not as though he would be running up the wing nipping in and out of the main stand raping women is it? Any support he would receive would be entirely for his football ability.

The law of the land says he has served his time and he should be able to join society on licence.
If everybody who came out of prison was not able to earn an honest living,
They would have no choice but return to crime,
He is not like Hughes who ran away after killing somebody,
He might even be innocent , who knows ?
Don't forget Clayton Macdonald was there at the time and we all excepted him,
If Evans did rape the said person why did Macdonald not do something about it ?

If he was willing to come here and bang in some much needed goals then I might start going again, and as for the dodgy rape conviction, il give him the benefit of the doubt considering 9 out of 10 rape victims fabricate their story's in order to clear their guilt after a night of shame. It's the real victims I feel sorry for like the joggers in the park, the woman attacked as they walk home alone etc, not slappers who decide to go to a room with half a dozen men.

Looks that people are doing that already - who needs a judge and a jury listening to weeks worth of evidence when you've got The Fishy? I wondered how long it'd be before somebody went down the 'He's not as bad as Lee Hughes' route and Grimsby Pete stepped up.

Take a look at this. It gives an insight in to his side of the story http://www.chedevans.comOf course it is just one side of the story and I guess he had the funds to arrange a public defence whereas the woman involved maybe didn't have either the finance or the inclination to go public, leaving the legal system to fight her corner Back to the initial notion of him coming here - unlikely I'd say but I think I'd be ok with him playing for Town

This doing the rounds at the moment on change.org
Warning: This petition contains information about sexual assault that may be upsetting to some readers.
Ched Evans was a striker for Sheffield United when in 2012 he was found guilty of raping a 19 year old and sentenced to five and a half years in jail. He will be released this month and his club are in talks to bring him back to the team.
Jean Hatchet started a petition calling on the team not to re-sign Ched Evans. She says that Evans does not acknowledge his guilt because he doesn't understand the difference between consensual sex and rape and that returning to his former club reinforces the message that this isn't important. In the weeks leading to his release Jean wants to show Sheffield United that the public are against him being re-signed.
Warning: This petition contains information about sexual assault that may be upsetting to some readers.
Ched Evans was convicted of rape. It was a process of justice. To even consider reinstating him as a player at the same club is a deep insult to the woman who was raped and to all women like her who have suffered at the hands of a rapist.
"For the male leaders of the club to endorse him and "welcome him back" is an absolute humiliation to all women who expect the men who commit gross acts of violence against women to pay for what they have done and part of that is relinquishing the celebrity they attained, and in this case used as a tool to facilitate the violence. The clear message to young boys and men is that you will be forgiven for this crime. Women will not be believed when they accuse you of that crime even if a court believes them.
The message given is that men who commit such atrocious crimes will suffer only a small penance whilst the women they attack suffer for the rest of their lives.
Sheffield United Football Club must not reinforce that message. "

Can't agree with that petition. He's been punished, he has a right to work. He did something horrible yes but has served the punishment that the laws of the land deemed suitable. And he will now have that reputation for life and it will forever be a cloud over him, he shouldn't be stopped from working as well. I bet the same woman wouldn't be bothered about a bin collector going back to work.

It's the real victims I feel sorry for like the joggers in the park, the woman attacked as they walk home alone etc, not slappers who decide to go to a room with half a dozen men.
Eight people have liked this post. How worrying. Not one has actually passed comment though so I guess if they're ashamed that they liked it then that's a crumb of comfort.

It's a horrible crime, but society has decided he has served an appropriate punishment. Let's hope he doesn't glory in his actions like Lee Hughes does. Seemingly wearing it as a badge of honour. Contrition and discretion would for me mean he could continue his career, where ever he gets the opportunity.

It's the behaviour of an absolute cretin to randomly make up statistics that fits their horrifying world view that 90% of rape victims will just be stupid Slags who were asking for it.
