At the risk of opening old wounds...
If we can't attract quality strikers to the club (as seems to be the case at the moment, at least) we need to develop our own.
And if our youth system can't produce players capable of holding their own in this league, what's the point in having it? How would it help us if we were to get back in the league?
Is the problem that our manager (under considerable pressure from the fans' expectations) is too reluctant to give them a run in the team? How are they going to develop if we don't?
We gave pro contracts to three youngsters, and dip into the loan market for cover in their positions. Winfarrah looked busy and confident when I saw him, and people who say Walker is still too wild might be too young to remember the early performances of Bob Cumming. Will Bemose follow in North and Southwell's footsteps?
Lots of questions people might like to discuss. I don't have the answers, that's for sure. But if dwindling crowds create smaller future budgets where else can we go, except showing faith in our youngsters?

Lewis Bemrose yesterday scored a Hat-Trick...
I'll just leave that there.

Yeah, i think the same way he plays them when we have injuries like Aswad against Nuneaton, Paul Walker came on last season for injured Hatton or Bignot and did well, i thought he could have brought Caine on Tuesday night Aswad looked tired after 70 mins but got a second wind to get him through it but i would off brought Caine on. Caine Winfarrah is more of a threat on the left hand side then Paddy and should be used more.

Whilst I do hope Bemrose becomes the next big youngster on Town's books, lets not go over the top about a hat-trick being scored against Vauxhall Motors youth team.

If Dayle Southwell had been given more time on the pitch in his favoured central role I believe he could have been good enough to score goals at this level. Clearly our manager had no faith. I'd have him in the squad now tbh.
Heard a few good things about young Lewis Bemrose though. There's another young striker on the youth books who supposedly has potential but his name escapes me atm.

From what Ive seen of him he`s as good as Oates, we are not that big a step up from V Motors, should be on the bench and given the last half hour to see how he gets on, its not as if we are scoring for fun, remember Rooney 16 in Everton`s first team you never know

In my teams i have been naming Lewis Bemrose on the bench because of no Arnold but i don't think Hurst will play any of them less he has two, i would rather us loose a game and give the youngsters some experience then loan other teams youngsters or older players Parslow, Boyce and Oates have been okay. The strikers and youngsters are going to be zapped of confidence by shall i say it our manager, Ross Hannah needs to be told by the coaching staff that he is important not where desperate to bring another forward in since we busted a gut to bring Ross Hannah here in the first place.
We need a coach who's been in the situation that Hannah is now, and build his confidence up not have to worry about another forward coming in. The forwards need guidance just like Mckeown he wants a coach the defense have Hurst and Doig Dave Moore can also help them. Jack Mackreth said Andy Cook was a confidence player and he was gutted Cook wasn't here.

Apparently if your under 22 an a fringe player hurst doesnt even acknowledge you at training or match days ,i was shocked when i heard this last year but thats probably why no youth players are coming through or given chance, the saying is if your face fits ie the shop

Hannah needs a "how to avoid offside" coach - that should get ten more goals this season ??

No point having a youth system whilst Hurst is in charge because he has no faith in any of our homegrown young lads.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Managers don't want to risk throwing youngsters in to the team because there untried and a bit of an unknown quantity. They'd rather loan someone for a month or 2 because that player has probably played more first team football than some 17/18 year old in the youth team. It's a problem at all levels of our game. Just look at Dan Parslow for example, was he really needed when we've got Paul Walker who could have come in and done a good job and maybe develop and gain experience as a player. Same story Southwell last year, and to some extent Winfarrah earlier this season when Aswad Thomas was ruled out. There's plenty of talent in this town and it's made the club a few quid over the years, more faith should be shown in these young lads.

Hurst does not trust our young players,
So we have no chance of seeing if Bemrose is good enough or not.

It's funny how giving the young inexperienced players a run out In the first team is good enough for a top proven manager like Van Gaal, but it's not good enough for a 2 bob non league manager like hurst.

In our situation, on the pitch and on the balance sheet, we should be trusting to youth more. This is a sheer waste and another of the things Hurst has got wrong IMO. Why give the young lads pro contracts if you're not prepared to play them when we're short of first teamers?
May as well have said thanks but no thanks and saved whatever it is they're paid.

It's worked in recent years.
Wood. North. Thanoj. Bennett? (Did he play in the YT? )
Winfarrah will no doubt develop into a good LB/LWB/LM pro footballer. Walker seemed a bit hot headed in preseason but he may of been giving 110% to impress. If he knew he had a handful of games he may of been more composed. Bemrose never seen play but let's be fair can he do any worse?

Playing youth team and first team are completely different. A player may excel at junior level to the extent that he's worth a deal, but stepping into mens football is a different games. So in terms of first team football they are an unknown quantity. I was also eluding to youth teamers who are not on a pro deal as yet, the likes of Bemrose who has been on the bench once or twice.

If they are an unknown quantity what is the point of giving them a contract. They are given contracts because it's thought they will be able to make it in "men's football"
