Good. Elding was almost certainly one of the highest wage earners at the club. This will at least release funds to assist in the signing of at least two of the players we have on loan. at the same time it will take nothing from the playing side.

Wonder what the PNE fans make of this? Or are they completely 'trusting in Westley'.

Cannot imagine them wanting to keep him once they've seen him properly... Hope he commands a fee off them though in Jan, would be a massive plus, starting to think S&H could sell sand to the Arabs at this rate.

Seriuosly how does Graham Westley think he will improve their squad or even work out as a half decent signing? He just wont... I wonder how long until the chest pumping and PNE badge kissing begins. I also wonder who and when his 16th club will be?

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

I do hope that the managers have delegated the vital chest-thumping role to another member of the squad. Hopefully, Elding will take the missing sitters role with him to Deepdale.

what a bunch of miseries people are for being so fickle now he has gone. Scored and set up plenty last season, had a partnership with Hearn and from what I saw of him he gave 100% this season, with good link up play and clever movement. It just didn't happen in front of goal. Do you blame a 30yo for wanting 1st team football in a sh!t league? He clearly had a degree of passion for town but evidently you can't please everyone

Elding was a decent player that did a lot more work than just score ,un fortunately  he was unsettled by Preston eary on in the season and things haven't worked out here .
I wish him the best

I wish him the best too, however I'm not sorry to see him go, evidently he was better playing alongside Hearn probably more to do with Hearn than Elding, and he has obviously wanted out ever since Preston came in for him. He is an average to decent BSP striker nowadays so god knows why a Lge 1 club want him.

As someone else said if they keep him its a good move for all parties and hopefully it frees up wages to sign one of Hannah, Neilson or Pond.

Fair point. He did do well last season. Decent amount of goals and worked well with Hearn. I have always had an issue with the amount of chances he misses though and if he doesn't want to stay here then it's best he leaves asap.

Hope he does well at PNE so he doesn't have to come back here. Hopefully now we'll be able to sign at least one of the loanees in Jan.

Not going to slate him as he did work hard here, even this season. But this is a staggering move by a league 1 club.

Hannah can't get in to his league 2 side.
Connell seems to have found his level at league 2.
Is anyone 100% sure that Hearn could cope at league 1 level?

I find this so bizarre!

Indeed the ony logical reason PNE would want him is his relationship with Westley. However, Westley sold him after a huge bust up so even that doesn't seem to explain it.

Blackmail pictures, perhaps?

I don't mind if he scores a few at PNE, especially if it leads to him joining them full-time in the New Year. 2 goals in 16 appearances for us this season doesn't exactly indicate he's likely to set the world alight in Preston.

Preston fans are wetting themselves as someone has posted a 5 minute You Tube montage of his goals.

Maybe we should mention about his record for missing sitters too.

The video goals were all from his first spell at Stockport and bears little resemblance to the player i have seen in a Town shirt this season although there was the mandatory badge grabbing and chest thumping.

I know he performed well under Westley at Stevenage but he hasnt looked a threat at BSP level so i fail to see how he will cope with league one.

His stated gripe is all about wanting first team football at his age. Will he get that at PNE? Really?

The deal is initially a loan until Jan and Scott has said no deal for a permanent move has been agreed

As others have said it is one of the higher earners off the wage bill and gives us a chance of getting one or two of the loanees on a permanent deal in January IF the moves comes permanent.

Impressive little video CV there but not the player we saw I'd argue

On another note, with Elding gone, wonder who might step up as our regular penalty taker now?

Sorry to see him go, as Excusebeef says he performed last season with Hearn, struggled to score this campaign but still worked hard. Good luck to him.

Presuming that 'silks' means skills, that's hilarious.

Unless it means something to do with Gary Silk, in which case I'm none the wiser.

Good luck to him and nice that we have some cash free'd up from the wage bill. Maybe he will knock in a few goals for them, get a contract in January and then revert back to missing clangers again.

He partnered well with Hearn, but mostly missed absolute sitters. drunk off some lincoln fans, had 5 minutes cult hero fame, missed more sitters then copulated off.

The kind of player that would have sent us down when we were in league 2, but in the conference could just about pull the wool over your eyes. Standing in the cold at Ebbsfleet, all I'll remember is him missing chance after chance. He'll be working on the rigs before he knows it.

Going by Elding current form this season, he'll probably miss Preston altogether and end up at Carlisle.

Well, well well.

So thats what Elding could do was it?

Points of note......taken from two seasons by the looks of it, squad no 32 and then no. 9. Probably edited by a stockport fan so would maybe explain that.

Any striker who has to pad out a goal clips video with half a dozen penalties should tell you something.

Interesting to see just about all of those goals were on or about the 6 yd line....the exact distance he misses most chances now. Confidence the factor?

I do wish him good luck but only because i want him to impress and be gone for good.

Can someone with an ounce of technical knowledge please put out a response video of the sitters he has missed? Lol.

Very strange. Just seen this on Preston's forum.

Quoted Text
GW has said in his pre match video interview on PNE Player that Elding isn't here to be part of the match day squad of 18 just yet & is only here as cover for over the hectic period that's coming up. Also the loan window closes next week so we've got till next Thursday if we wont to bring any more players to PNE before the Jan Transfer window.

Makes more sense Les. Logical thought suggests he couldn't be a first choice in a league one side at present.

Just hope his agent can find him a permanent home in Jan. Jerry Greens perhaps

Looks a good move for all concerned and relieved he's gone. (least for now)
Never his biggest fan by any means even from the start.

Obviously things weren't working out with Hannah but it doesn't take Einstein to work out why the "free up the wage bill" line is reeled out NOW.

Just cos he hit the post instead of scoring, suprise suprise the reaction has now gone OTT in fickle like manner.
In conclusion, think the "UP DOWN" reactions we've seen over the last xx months are laughable and pretty pathetic.
Quoted from excusebeef
From what I saw of him he gave 100% this season, with good link up play and clever movement. It just didn't happen in front of goal. Do you blame a 30yo for wanting 1st team football in a sh!t league?

Spot on + he was mainly played the target man role and he was hardly playing with 100% confidence either (I wonder why !)

The biggest idiot must be this bloke commenting in the GET:
“The only intrest i have in our club is for the players who want to wear the shirt for Grimsby Town and battle for promotion to get us where we so desire to be,Mr Elding does not it so seems”

Ermmm, He DID want to play for GTFC, that's the whole point !
Do people actually read what people actually say or just leap to their own conclusions ?!
What a complete and utter bell end...

Tell you what, this kind of slagging off can quite easily come back to bite you on the bottom if the next hero player X hits a bumpy patch.
I dread to think what might happen if e.g. Ross Hannah goes 5-10 games without a goal...
Do we ever think of that or is short termism making a complete bodge up of convincing everyone always the best way ?
Perhaps someone from the trust board should answer - judging by their track record of recruitment numbers so far perhaps they might know !

Whatever we do let's not print out any more sodding T shirts.
Collectively we're not up to being able to make ourselves look a right bunch of wallys if we later decide it's all gone pear shaped.
ESPECIALLY when it's flattering to deceive in the first place, dear god...

Some fans also need to stop making good or bad judgements by looking "at the stats" over a handful of games too.
Wasn't so long ago some fans couldn't see anything in Hatton or Cook either.

Think on folks, sometimes you risk reaping what you sow through a desire for short term gratification.

Elding was a decent player that did a lot more work than just score ,un fortunately  he was unsettled by Preston eary on in the season and things haven't worked out here .
I wish him the best

He wasn't unsettled by Preston as it was a situation he manufactured himself with the aid of his mate Mr Westley. i suspect Westley is helping to put him in the shop window for a few weeks until January comes. I will be amazed if he is still there after January.

Interesting watching the video, he was playing as an out and out striker getting on the end of things rather than as a target. Is there something in this? Anyway hope he does ok at PNE. Amazing move though but good for his ego.

I agree with you, Mr Beef.  Some people's memories don't seem to stretch back even one full season.

I'm sorry he's gone, and I'm sorrier that our "support" did a Hickman on him.

We was all warned previous to elding signing for us what he was like from the gimps and stockport fans,he wasnt bad last year but he was next to liam who was creating chances left right and centre. PNE fans seem to think elds is going there as a finisher not a target man creator. He will be found out soon enough IF HE EVEN PLAYS,not good enough at this level certainly no good for lg1.

I wouldnt say this is a excrement league at all, the only thing excrement about it is the status of being conference, most teams in this league would beat the majority of league 2 sides no doubt and you'll find the teams that win promotion from BSP win promotion the next season to.

A decent post (though God alone knows why you chose to have a dig at the Trust Board but nevermind.)

I can only asume that some of the vitriol launched Elding's way is to take people's minds off their contributions to the cringeworthy Elding Facts nonsense from last year.
Quite simply there is no evidence to support the view that he wasn't trying. I've seen no difference in his effort this season to last. My view is that he simply isn't good enough for a team with aspirations of a Play Off place at least.
It would appear that all he has done is try to get himself a move to somewhere where he can play regular first team football. I suspect a lot of players would be very happy to be offered a place in a set up higher up the ladder and I'd think that he knows that PNE represents a short step to achieving his goal.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Joseph Joubert.

I hope he proves us all wrong and Preston offer us a bajillion quid in Jan.

I just find it strange that a league 1 club wants a player who has struggled to keep a first team place and score goals in the BSP.  Even the Scunts weren't looking at him and they are cheap shoes utd.

I can only asume that some of the vitriol launched Elding's way is to take people's minds off their contributions to the cringeworthy Elding Facts nonsense from last year.

Well fair play to the fans who recognised the passion, helped the club and bought the t-shirts but I didn't really entertain any of it.
I strongly suspected we were setting ourselves up to leave egg on our faces later in the day.
Yes very easy to say now but was hardly gonna pipe up at the time and tell them not to bother or affect club sales.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll all get over it but in Elding's case it's the lack of any real explanation for the move that concerns me a little more in the longer term.

Quoted from barralad
though God alone knows why you chose to have a dig at the Trust Board but nevermind.

Well put it this way...

Just personally think it might have been a lot easier to say "Eldings on a large wage and not part of our long term plans for the future so he can go" than for anyone to reel out a backlash that perhaps paints a slightly false picture that I suspect no-one particularly believes the whole story about anyway.

To draw an analogy, as far as the trust goes I wonder if the same (if true) might be true too.
As I said when it comes to recruitment numbers, certainly the proof of success is in the pudding.

ATOETD I just wonder  if it doesn't pick up whether the ones who won't achieve the outcome they desired (and I sincerely hope they do) will be pointing the finger at everyone except themselves.

Got to admit I nearly choked with disbelief when the trust said:

"For too many years now this, ‘us and them’ culture, has developed not only between club and supporters but also within the supporters themselves has been so damaging and demoralising.  Let’s try and move the agenda to ‘we’ rather than ‘us and them’, we might be pleasantly surprised by the result."

When the trust chairman is leading by example by blocking users, occasionally ignoring questions and giving unhelpful one line responses like "Incorrect", is it REALLY any wonder people aren't fully confident or flocking en masse to support the cause in total unity ?

They're trying their best ?
They've certainly done some very good work to aid supporters, have answered some questions (albeit late, perhaps should have thought ahead beforehand and stuck it into a more detailed "plan") and tbf I guess they really ARE trying.
But to me, it hardly looks like they're trying to move heaven and earth to convince everyone it's the case - just my impression...

Anyway...
As sad as it may be that more haven't been convinced to sign up YET, people can ultimately do, think and blame whoever they want and even believe they're on the right track if they really want to.

But ATEOTD who are we really kidding or robbing except ourselves ?

I suspect I'm one of many who have become so apathetic about progress that I'm generally not motivated to even "criticize" or argue the case for change or improvement for fear of being slagged off as being "unsupportive" or having a "dig".

But fair enough, if it's the trusts way or the highway (least on here) then I'll still sign up(again probably) and "do my bit" but don't really see much point in going the extra mile trying to help achieve greater success in that department.

JLAA who before his injury was top scorer in league 1? 7 in 10 games? Identified as potential prem player too!

That's the point I'm trying to make - he was seemingly very average for us but doing well two leagues higher!

Does anyone know if the players wages are being paid in full probably not, but even if no one comes in for him in jan he will still be our player until the end of the season I don't think we can afford to pay him off.

Lets see how this pans out

The facts of the matter are that The Trust have trebled membership in the year since it was relaunched. Your "spat" with Chris is purely personal and goes back before the time of his involvement in The Trust. As such to an extent you reap what you sow. You have never been able to accept that the Fishy is just one of the ways that the Trust communicates with it's members. The best way of dealing with the questions raised by the offer of a seat on the board was to collate the questions and respond in a way that anyone interested could get answers. There are many Trust members who don't read the Fishy. We've discussed previously your unwillingness to use the channels open to you (i.e. the e-mail questions option) and nothing has really changed in that area. I could summise why you don't wish to send messages privately but to be honest it would serve no useful purpose.
I don't know of a single board member who isn't focusing on achieving the 750 figure.   You might want to deride the effort but I know from personal experience that there are people putting a great deal of time into making this Trust something to be proud of.  When( or if) you are considering what to do for "your bit" there is plenty of scope for practical help.
You talk about being accused of having a dig but this thread is about Anthony Elding and has nothing to do with the Trust. I suspect that by replying I've fallen into the "clever" trap that you've set for me but hey ho. It just strikes me as sad that at a time when the future for fans and their ability to have a say looks rosier than at any time in the forty odd years I've been following The Mariners your agenda appears to be of a personalised nature...

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Don't have a clue why a League 1 club wanted him but I suppose that you can't blame him for taking the chance. After that transfer request, the fans were always gonna get on his back and he hasn't really done anything to silence that.  Certainly don't think you can knock his effort or the impact he had last season though.

Either way though, I'm glad it's over for now. There were way too many threads focused on him rather than how well we're doing and negativity around the place is the last thing we need at the minute.

The man is clearly an idiot, he just couldn't help having digs at the supporters. These supporters got behind him last season.

He was the same at Stockport according to my neighbour. He basicly said he wasn't the brightest spark in football.

We have 2 strikers starting to score and hopefully get Southwell hungry and running at teams, the goals will come for him.

Hopefully we can keep spreading the goals about too. 4/5 players getting 15-20 goals would be good as then you are not relying on one or two players to get them all

Cannot imagine them wanting to keep him once they've seen him properly... Hope he commands a fee off them though in Jan, would be a massive plus, starting to think S&H could sell sand to the Arabs at this rate.

Had to laugh at that Matty - reckon your right. Perhaps they can sell the idea of the new stadium to NELC and geet lottery area improvement grants too!! bring on S&H

Its hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them!

Your "spat" with Chris is purely personal and goes back before the time of his involvement in The Trust.

You see this is where you're wrong, I've got no spat whatsoever, that's my whole point.
I accept it may APPEAR like I have but I'm never one to harbour gruges(not that I ever had one), I'll talk to anyone.
What does he think I'm going say to him anyway ? I really don't know...

My point is, for whatever reason he seemingly (IMO) isn't prepared to show the leadership the trust seem to be saying we need.
So it's mixed messages IMO - I can't speak for others but that's one of my concerns(not to mention the wishy washy lanaguage and lack of detail) for YOU.
It's just frustrating for me as a Town fan to see YOU guys miss out on potential members (although admittedly I'm only guessing).

Quoted from barralad

Probably wise. I guess it probably wouldn't be accurate anyway. (see above and below)
Quoted from barralad
You have never been able to accept that the Fishy is just one of the ways that the Trust communicates with it's members.

Au contraire, I've said it's only of the "target areas" myself.
But let's be honest, this is where a lot of fans come and every little helps and all that...
I'm pretty sure if something big ever does take off on the fishy, it could easily spread like wildfire all over to the benefit of everyone ?
Quoted from barralad
We've discussed previously your unwillingness to use the channels open to you (i.e. the e-mail questions option) and nothing has really changed in that area.

Well I've sent an e-mail and had my questions answered before but without wanting to appear like I'm pointing the finger any further, accept I've become somewhat apathetic and most recently haven't been motivated to, either privately or even on here. (although come to think of it, think I did post a few questions on here...)

Anyway lots of reasons but the main one (except wondering what purpose it really serves with me already being a member) is very simple.
Simply that if the trust is going to provide helpful & useful answers to questions, then it's probably better off that it's in a public domain (like the Q&A list that's already been shared) so everyone can gain the benefit.

To be fair perhaps this is already the case but it's a fairly basic marketing concept that the trust doesn't seem to want to "push to the max" through online 1-2-1 communication.

Just personally think it would be great if we had someone who was confident enough to answer questions on the spot without having to retire or think of the answers.
A "Head Of Communications" (didn't the trust have one before?) resident on the fishy if you like...
Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not a case of ever wanting anything for ME, just think it might help you guys (and more importantly GTFC) to boost "trust levels" (literally !).
But who knows perhaps I'm wrong...

ATEOTD does anyone out there even really give a toss if someone "makes a mistake" ?
I think not ?
I just don't understand it myself...

Just wonder if people are losing sight of the bigger picture and putting the cart before the horse.
One thing I'm fairly sure of is that whatever you/we do, it most probably won't go down in the history books.

Quoted from barralad
It just strikes me as sad that at a time when the future for fans and their ability to have a say looks rosier than at any time in the forty odd years I've been following The Mariners your agenda appears to be of a personalised nature...

You see this is exactly the reason why I sadly feel (though again would love to be proven wrong) it'll never hit the dizzy heights of thousands of fans signing up in their droves to help provide the (part) self sufficiency we may collectively like to achieve.

Simply put, if people are gonna assume eveyone's out to sh1tstir or pull people apart when they "criticize" wanting to help, how are we ever gonna all come together and grow ?

Believe it or not, I've honestly no desire to argue or waste my time wanting to pull anyone apart. (or if I do it's not intentional or for no reason)
Although I DO accept a handful may (as opposed to being focused on the success of the club) making life somewhat enduring.
But the words duck and water spring to mind.

ATEOTD barra, the trust THEMSELVES seem to recognize the need for unity so it's not like I'm saying anything new here.
I'm afraid you can't always just expect EVERYONE to follow no matter what - if it was really that simple BP would be full to the rafters every week and the trust member levels and number of volunteers would already be off the charts.

Anyway my honest congratulations to you all on your achievements so far, my apologies for "hijacking" the AE thread (although you did ask), my sincere best wishes and good luck for the future(I mean that) and whatever you think is best.

Sign up folks ! (if that helps)

Seeya Elding, cheers for the goals you scored last season.  Maybe things would of been different if your caped crusader (le Hearn) had not fell at the first hurdle.

At the end of the season, the two goals Elding scored in that Barrow game could all well be very significant.

Works out well for all partys involved, player off the wage bill, hopefully give us a better chance to bring in the loan players on a permanent, or to the very least till the end of the season.

No need to worry about our strikers, I reckon Cook will knock 20+ in next season (1st season at Barrow was like ours) regardless of what division we are in, and the best yet to come from Pearson, keep the faith.

Not forgetting Hannah, plus Hearn back after Christmas fingers crossed, could be our big secret weapon come the end of the season.

interview on the preston player site for anyone with a mariners player log in http://www.player.pnefc.net/latest-news/article/2981418

Quite a historic interview that as Elding has broken David Beckham's world record for the amount of times someone says "you know" in a 4 minute interview.
