i am a little concerned about our defence more than strikers or midfield at the moment but the two fullbacks should improve

Pleased with the strikers, all look capable with southwell right in the mix. I think he will have a great season going by his first few games in the first team. Cook looks the best signing Imo very classy forward who wins the ball in the air 8 times out of 10 and has great control for a relatively big man- he has to start along side hearn for me in a front two with soars behind in the hole. Pearson looks good recruit on the what I've seen of him- not much but he's big strong and powerful with flashes of skill. Elding well I can see him frustrated sat on the bench but can see him getting his chance, just can he take it?

Joebeck is up there with cook for me, niven does what he does well can see him only getting better with match fitness. Soars looks a different player and will be a vital part in our attacking play- like I said earlier would like to see him in the hole behind heard and cook, but would also like to see him on the wing with Joebeck on the other in a 442.

My only slight doubt is cb, I just think we'll need 4, just so we are strong in that(important) position. Don't get me wrong person and miller are solid and getting stronger game by game but just think we should get two more, for strength in depth more than anything a lb come cb would be ideal don't know about ford as didn't go to barton.

Thing is, can we afford to have 4 centre halfs on the books?  I agree we definitely need 1 more in as cover, but can we afford to carry 2?  I'd much prefer us to get a quality 3rd in to push the first choice pairing for a place.  We can always use the loan market if need be.

Just out of interest, why do you always refer to him as this and not just Colbeck?

Last season the managers said they wanted a small squad.   This season they seem to have recognised the risks with that approach.  They want a bigger squad this season.  However, last season we had 4 centre-backs.  This season we have 2 with a possibility of 3.  I think that we need 4 CBs to challenge for places, similar to the competition for strikers.

I agree. I'm a bit concerned about the centre back position. The longer it goes on without at least one more coming in, the more jittery I'll probably get. I think you make a great point about providing competition. We've got great competition up front with 5 strikers all making a case. This ought to drive up standards and concentration. This isn't happening at centre back and it could be costly, to say nothing of what we'll do if we pick up an early injury or suspension. That said, I'm sure the managers are on the case.

I'm certain we'll sign another centre back, however I think 4 is a luxury we can't afford at this level.

in a real emergency there is still the loan market (for a chunk of the season) and the youth team. Not ideal if you're a few points off the one promotion spot.
