Stephen Hendry - you might as well go for Jocky Wilson!!

Someone in the production crew was told to put up a picture of Jackie Wilson, but instead put up a picture of darts player Jockie Wilson and Dexy's Midnight Runner's didn't noticed it.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Jesus’ disciple Peter, picked up a fish to get the tribute money from it, Jesus left his thumb print on the fish, bless'ed is the Haddock.

Steve Redgrave is undoubtedly our greatest ever Olympian some great names mentioned Bob Chalton, ian Botham especially but what about Ellen MacArthur sailing solo around the world, surely one of the greatest achievements ever by a man or a women.

Sparky, that is class! not noticed it before.
As for Sportsperson it has to be Steve Redgrave for me, Wiggins has achieved a phenomenal feat and will continue to do so but Redgraves achievements will take alot of beating.

Andy Murray, been consistently winning tournaments and reaching at least the semis of the slams for about the last 8 years I think. Been on the SPOTY shortlist for at least 5 years on the trot.

I like Andy Murray but if he's the greatest British Sports Person of all time then we should give up now.

I read something the other day that said that while Wiggins and Redgrave have unbelievable accomplishments lots of people have won the Tour, lots have multiple Olympic medals etc but that Roger Bannister completely redefined what was possible in his field when he went under four minutes four a mile and that this makes him the Greatest ever Brit Sportsperson. Decent shout? Must be a decent bet for lighting the flame tonight if it isn't Redgrave?

Very good Abdul....made me laugh

I am actually half expecting Brave JT to take centre stage at the Olympics opening tonight - could be why they're keeping it such a close guarded secret as to who's the main man with the torch

Pretty hard to compare such vastly differing sports. But the shouts for Bannister, Redgrave & Wiggins are pretty compelling. As an outside bet though, whatabout the sailor, Ben Ainslie? Not as heralded but he must be on the way to being the most successful Brit of all time?

There's a crooked street in Grimsby Town
It's a well worn path I've travelled down
Now there's ruin in my name, I wish i'd never got off the train
And I wish I'd listened to the words you said....
...Don't go down to Freeman Street
Don't go down to Freeman Street
You'll be lost and never found
You can never turn around
Don't go down to Freeman Street
