                                                          An Evening with Alan Buckley

Mariners Trust are absolutely delighted to confirm that Alan Buckley has agreed to do a speaker evening at McMenemys on Friday April 13th 2012. All proceeds raised by the Trust will go towards Grimsby Town Youth Development and School of Excellence. The format of the evening is likely to be as follows, Alan will open with a 30min speech, we will then serve a pie, chips and peas supper whilst a specially commisioned DVD will be showing on the TV screens. We will then have with a Q & A session using questions that have been submitted in advance and then finish with a raffle/auction. We are very much hoping that a few former players will be in attendance .Also we are planning to have copies of the special DVD available for sale.

More details of ticket arrangements to follow but we anticipate this will be a very popular event. Tickets will be £15 for members and £20 for non members. We intend to give members a priority buying period before tickets go on general sale.

Watch this space for further details of this and other events we have planned. For all of these events there will be a benefit for members compared to non members and over a year this will easily more than cover membership fees and so why not  join now at http://www.marinerstrust.co.uk.

I can guarantee you that Alan is not being paid NOR did he request anything in return for giving his time for the fans of GTFC.

ALL proceeds will be directed to the Youth/SOE

So the trust is still concentrating its fundraising on the youth s/o/e is it?
How does that fit with any discussions the trust have had with JF's perception of the trusts possible role or function?

Splendid work Mariners Trust. This is a great way to kick off the new look Trust's events. I hope to come up from London to attend. I am sure many of the other exiles who are Trust members will do the same.

Alan's only condition of doing the speaker evening was that the proceeds would be directed to the Youth/SOE.

Future events will not be youth specific and there are several things in the pipeline.

We continue in depth, positive discussion with JF and hope to be in position to announce something soon

the only reason i ask is because maybe further down the line the trust could get local bands/comdeians to play at McMenemys to raise money.

boooo the trust booooo - why a no-nark like alan buckley? why not sir alex - you're a bunch of amateurs, all you're doing is filling fenty's pockets. and why's the money going to the youth team? surely it should be going to save the club... i mean to change the catering teams, or to run the bar, i mean why don't they do pay for a match ball? bet they're paying out unnecessary money for the food or for mcmenemy's or the bar staff - why are they wasting OUR money?(i know i'm not a member of the trust ,but you know what i mean). AND bet all the committee are getting free tickets and getting the chance to lord it with sir alan - they're just like fenty - only in it for what they can get out of it

etc etc etc etc etc

(just thought i'd pre empt all the normal comments from the anti-trust morons)

This sort of event is exactly what this great club has been missing over the years.  Well done to the trust and AB, how many will the event hold and will it be shown on Mariners player.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Fantastic idea shame about the date mind, will certainly put of alot of fans who are preparing to go to Wrexham... but great stuff more of the same please Big Chris has the Mariners Trust asked the club for 2-3 signed footballs + a signed home and away shirt to be auctioned off during the evening ??

Taking into account that come April we could be on the brink of the play-offs surely being able to auction of item being mentioned will certainly help raise a fair bit more cash

you ever been to Wrexham? Yea I know all that, but you can't please everyone. I work Friday eve so can't go but you don't find me whining. Instead of nitpicking some ought best to just shut up or appreciate the effort some people are going too in order to help others.

Rant over.

I think you have read something different to me there Jase i have only commented saying it a shame about the date as might put people off with Wrexham game the day after there was no whining about it what so ever if fact if you read it again you will see the comment for what it is !!

In my comments i have even added extra ideas to what i said was a FANTASTIC IDEA ??   some people .....

A fantastic coup for The Trust. They deserve praise for setting this up. Well done.

I can't see how the fact Town are away at Wrexham the next day will have a detrimental effect of the attendance at the Buckley evening/

I hope they sell it out-I'd be surprised if it doesnt

Exactly my thought, if people have got enough time to plan and  budget both then it wont be an issue, got just under 3 months to plan for it

Great coup, already know 10 of my mates who want tickets, great start for the trust

Joining on the 15th, would love to be at the Buckley do.

Top marks to the Trust - plenty of people have mentioned how much they would love to hear some of Buckley's stories, his thoughts and what he makes of the club today. Hear's your opportunity.

Very, very generous from Sir Alan. Speakers who do events like this often command huge fees. I had to attend a work function once where we had to sit through a speech from that bird who won a gold medal at the winter olympics a couple of years ago. It was poorly prepared and uninteresting but she charged £5000 for less than an hour of her time.

I'd pay £50 to watch Mike Newell at McMenemys and £20 to throw a GTFC brick at the fucka.

I reckon this is the better idea of the two. Thousands would be made.

Alan Buckley tickets are now on general sale to non members according to Mariners Trust Twitter.  Fill your boots.

Quoted from Mariners Trust

For all of these events there will be a benefit for members compared to non members and over a year this will easily more than cover membership fees and so why not  join now at http://www.marinerstrust.co.uk

"Pound for pound, and class for class, the best football team I have seen in England since the war. In the league they were in they played football nobody else could play. Everything was measured, planned and perfected and you could not wish to see more entertaining football." Bill Shankly, Manager GTFC 1951-54
