Just watched the excellent interview with him on mariners world and he sounds really keen to come back to Town. I think seeing him in the flesh saying it says that he genuingly wants to come back and is not just saying it.

On a side note, I didn't realise he had that rather rubbish tattoo.

He may cost us some cash but if the powers that be want us promoted then we need to get all the loan players on board full time but especially Ross as goals win you match's and this lad knows where the goal is!

Have followed Town for all my life during the ups and downs.

My son plays for school of excellence which is so well run without any funding and can see some future stars in the lower age teams.

Taking a break away from potentially pointless arguments.
Quite ironically !

Much as I'd love to, I won't offer my very own witty Xmas analogy in response.
Don't need any turkey bones argued over in the festive season of goodwill !

Actually it's quite ironic you posted that moosey cos of all the comments I've read on here recently, think some of yours have been the best of the lot !
Got to admit though, was slightly disappointed you seemed to backtrack on the Radio 5 debate somewhat.
But not a criticism, can obviously understand.
Since you got yourself in a bit of a twist.
Shame you didn't spot the discrepancy in the interview too but it was tough and obviously you're not Santa's helper like me !
In any case still ironic cos kid you not, I came within a hairs breath of posting my thoughts fully supporting and upholding your view.
But then I suddenly realised it would probably only lead to others embarking on another pointless round of arguments, disagreements and slagging off.
So in the end I didn't bother !

Happy Xmas to everyone.
And to you too Les...

At first I assumed you said "with" and was gonna say "You're disappointed ?"
Now I've looked again I've seen you've actually said "without" !
Oh well I won't seek to argue the toss.
After all it IS Xmas...

Just read on Twitter that JF is backing the manager's financially to get Ross Hannah permanently.

Also saw that they believe that Luton are competing with us for Scott Neilson.

Will be gutted if Neilson goes to Luton. Hopefully he's made friends in our squad and will want to stay here for a few more months.

Think it was almost inevitable, for some odd reason, that they'd come in.

Financially and geographically it probably makes sense for him but he won't get the gametime he'll get here. Very disappointing but don't see him staying now. Real shame.

EDIT: Silver lining however being it opens up the left side berth for Marcus Marshall where he is, imo, far more effective cutting inside on his right peg.

IF Neilson doesn't sign i wonder if it might force our hand to tie marshall up, if not there must be other targets

Luton=kiss of death. I remember us and various others tracking Robbie Willmot as the next big thing, he went there and just went downhill. Andre Grey and various others, stuck there for another season at least.

He either wants to stay or he  wants to go,

If he wants to stay, good, if he wants to go to Luton or some other southern club,

Good luck to him.

If we sign Marshall we have two good wingers with Colbeck on the other flank.

I would be very surprised if Neison signs for us and have had the same view since he signed for us on loan.

I am sure Luton can comfortably better any offer we make and as Pete posted above I think we thank him for his time with us and move on.

Similarly i expect Hannah to be a Town player early in January

Luton don't even have to make a better offer than us, if he's a Southern boy and dosn't want to move up here, then Luton will be a better option for him and not because of the money they offer. Is it worth breaking the bank for? I'd argue not, he's good but at the same time he knows he's good and so is sometimes too greedy.

Hannah is a much more important signing than Neilson, even if Neilson is a much better player, its about the team and what we need, not signing class players for the sake of it. Sweeney was in a different class when he could be arsed playing for us but it didn't make much difference to the team.

I'd love him to sign, but if he dosn't so be it, and if he goes to Luton then so what, Luton's problem is in defence not going forward, they ain't going to become more of a threat to us because they sign Neilson instead of us.

Think we all missing a trick here think Pond is the most important to sign as with him at the back with Shaun we can just about say we have at least 1 point before we kick a ball

Have followed Town for all my life during the ups and downs.

My son plays for school of excellence which is so well run without any funding and can see some future stars in the lower age teams.

In an ideal world we'd get all four for at least the rest of the season.

All the loanees have had an impact on our squad, pond and hannah are definately standouts for me and i would be happy if we could only sign two and it was those two. Marshall is just coming into his own and i think he's happy playing here, will he uproot and committ? I hope so. I've always had the feeling neilson was the hardest to read, saying that he could go to luton and be shite, wrong set up and formation, too many strikers wanting the glory or not playing to his strengths. I think thats a lot to do with how the loanees have settled quickly into a winning side, how our managers manage them and have continued to improve what happens on the field. They might not get that somewhere else.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I'm sure they'll get a good send off. They deserve it. It would have been very easy for them to come here and toss it off like many have in the past but they didn't. If we can get 2 out of the four that'll be great, 3 even better. Neilson does seem to be the one that will be harder to convince and to be fair I'm sure we'd all agree that moving from down there up north isn't going to be an easy decision but hopefully they come up with something.

I watched the interview with Hannah last night and you can tell that he genuinely wants to stay and sometimes things click when your at s different club simply because your getting games, different types of players that he may be easier to get on with, etc.  he didn't say one negative thing during his interview and I firmly believe we will get him permanently.  Neilson on the other hand has enjoyed his time here but I think it was always a loan move only with him and an opportunity for him put himself in the shop window for southern based clubs.  I can't see him coming here permanently and the interview just sounded like he was told what to say if that makes any sense.  I also think if Luton were to come in the move would suit him better but I don't think he will play anywhere near as good as he did for us, in fact I can see him getting sent off a few times for them.  There was no mentioned about Pond or Marshall on permanents but I guess that will probably be discussed more towards the end of their loans, I'm hoping they stay whether it be on loan till the end of the season.

I think those are the two most likely to sign. From what i've heard, we have a very tight knit squad and all the loanees love playing here. Hannah would sign today given the chance and barring the clubs failing a deal, he will be a Town player in Jan.

I also think Pond will stay if something can be agreed with his parent club. Neilson i think will return home and i think there is only Luton who can offer him more than we can at this level in terms of wages and club prospects.

Hurst continued: "In terms of Ross, the clubs are in talks - at the minute I would say it's not looking likely, but who knows?

"The downside of the match being on TV tonight is that there might have been a few more people watching, but Ross loves it here and would love to stay.

This is all sounding very fooking worrying.

Hopefully Bradford are just trying to squeeze a few more pence out of us. He's absolutely imperative to any title charge.

If true that it's not likely to happen then it's a big loss.

Yes I'm sure S&H will rummage around someone's reserves and find another gem but they will struggle to get anyone of Hannah's standard.

If its true that Hannah isn't staying, we need to  somehow get through these awkward  forthcoming games unscathed, perhaps S & H have another couple of  imminent loan signings in mind to take us to the return of the best finisher in the league, hopefully mid February (ish) and then back where we belong - the Football league.

We thought we was done for when we lost Alan Connell, we signed Liam Hearn, we thought our season was over when he got injured, we signed Ross Hannah. Have faith in our managers, I'm sure they'll bring in some quality

I think Hurst may be playing a game here. Bradford will hold out for money. Their leaverage is that we need Hannah and that he is performing well. By stating he doesn't think it is going to happen is perhaps aimed at weakening Bradford's hand. Calling their bluff suggesting we are not that desperate to sign him. Hopefully this will push the price down if other interest isn't found. However, if other clubs come in, we have to hope they don't have a good budget and we may still be in the running. His contract is running down and Bradford know that they will buggered if they don't seal some deal soon.

Fingers crossed.

I doubt Neilson will end up here. He's most likely to end up at Luton. We really need to find some goals until Feb/March one way or another. Something to keep us going until Hearn is back.

Hannah is THE must sign of the 4 loanees. Forget about Hearn this season, he's out til at least Feb/March and it'll take him a while to get fully match fit and the season ends in April.

If we don't get him for whatever reason, I'm sure the duo have someone else lined up, but there's no guarantee that they will settle in straight away/at all, whilst Ross is settled and enjoying his football.

Agreed. He's done very well for us and is our top scorer, goalscorers aren't easy to come by, therefore I can see why Bradford are trying to milk as much as possible out of the situation. I predict that S + H will be prepared to look elsewhere; don't think he'll be back to be honest. Then again, what do I know?

Hannah can still reject the offer from other clubs, even if Bradford don't give in i still think Hannah would sign at the end of his contract.

That's what I'm hoping.

Surely they know Hannah won't go somewhere he doesn't want to though ? (or would he ?)
Or is it a case that they know we'd like him asap like you say ?

Thought it might be gridlock but surely some kind of compromise can be reached ?

Just think if you're sat on top and you've invested so much to start off with, whether you just say intercourse it and risk buying your way to the title.
If that's at all possible (which perhaps it's not...)
But if we had say half already, isn't it worth the other half (if we've got that too) ?

Easy to say but still tempted to say if we've got the money perhaps we should just do it.
If the playing budget is what, 1/2 million+ then surely it's a relatively small price to pay ?
Yes there's next years budget to consider etc but you'll have a sellable ASSET on the books.
Sure nothing is ever guaranteed but I'd much rather be disappointed him leaving (or even Hearn for that matter) for new pastures in League 2 than not being in league 2.

Perhaps he can be replaced but I'm not so sure - just think Hannah's such an important part of the jigsaw right now.
Anyone else who comes in isn't proven here.

Perhaps he can be replaced but I'm not so sure - just think Hannah's such an important part of the jigsaw right now.
Anyone else who comes in isn't proven here.

I agree, I think he's the difference between us challenging for promotion and dropping off. I can just see the duo behaving stubbornly in this respect, refusing to be held to ransom by Bradford and deciding to look elsewhere.

Maybe I'm thinking about it too much (especially about the use of the word 'little', but these 2 bits contradict each other a little?

It's a mis-quote by the looks of it, just watched the post match interview and he actually says 'we're a little (then pauses) quite a bit apart'.

This news added with Neilson has put a huge dampener on things.

Perhaps maybe it's their choice, maybe their hands could be tied cos of budget constraints who knows.
Just think without knowing about the money aspect (fees, wages) or even possible replacements it's so difficult to weigh up the pros and cons.
But one thing they were all talking about on Premier tonight was how all the boxes seemed to be ticked - wants to be here, is settled, wants to sign etc.
If Hannah doesn't want to go elsewhere (I do hope not) perhaps someone should call in ACAS.

so they are trying to milk a non league club for a player who can not get in their squad and they are not really pulling up trees in League two but have had a good cup run.

Dream on Bradford unlike you, we will not put ourself in financial ruin!

I spoke to Fenty and elsom  after game both told me on seperate occasions Bradford want more than £50k and holding the club to ranson. It will be a cat and mouse situation and it maybe a while before he signs for the club

See what you mean.
I personally interpret it a bit like "it's not likely if they stick to what they want right now but hopeful it will be in the future once they've changed their minds".

For me I'm guessing it all boils down to Hannah.
Does he just want 1st team football or is he gonna hold out with Bradford for a possibly preferred move ?
Interesting think he said it was out of his hands on Premier - I'm wildly guessing there's some significance to it.
But what it might be, I haven't got the foggiest...

But let's speculate anyway...
Is he saying to Bradford, it's up to YOU to agree a deal with GTFC ?
Or it's up to us to agree a deal with Bradford ?
intercourse knows !
But hopefully the former...

At the end of the day IF it's his preferred/dream move here and Bradford dig their heels in, then hypothetically, would he be wrong to sit out his remaining time there ? I'm not so sure he would ?
Obviously no-one wants a "lose lose" situation but depending on Hannah (which could be key) the ball could well be in Bradford's court to get something rather than nothing ?
If Hannah eventually decides to goes elsewhere then what (if anything) can we conclude ?

Ross loves it here and would love to stay.

"At the same time, if suddenly a different club comes in and offers him a much better package then he'll obviously look at that.

Missed this bit...
B0LLOCKS !

Does "package" mean more money on the table ?

Now to be fair, it may well be that it really IS out of his hands if an agreement cant be reached.
But hearing that too has put me on a right downer.

Or could it be Hurst posturing saying that only a "much better package" will tempt him elsewhere ?
Arrrrghhh !

If it gets to January 31 and he's still at Bradford, the 50k asking price will surely drop, because a day later he'll have no transfer value at all.

That is a very good point.

Ill be gutted if we don't sign Hannah, and even if we don't get him in jan I can see him coming at the end of his contract.  Neilson yeah it's a shame he's joining Luton (well based on all the talk I've heard) but it was always a difficult one, lets just say if grimsby was down south he'd be a town player by now.  Pond is just as crucial as Hannah as is Marshall, but this is the only downside to loans other clubs can pinch your signings.

Without trying to sound to negative if we lose all the loan signings with exception of rankine as I've not seen a lot of him, and although I trust S&H it's whether they would be able to blend into the squad quickly I just think lose some of these loans and I think it will make our season very difficult and our only option could be the playoffs.

What would happen if Hannah refused to go to another club? Surely he has the final say. If he digs his heels in, would Bradford give in and sell him for a fee or give him to us for free?

The following three things work massively in our favour:

We want him.
Bradford don't.
He wants to join us.

I'm confident that after a bit of brinksmanship he'll be joining us. Getting Pond signed up is my biggest concern. As good as Pearson and Miller are, I think Pond has been absolutely outstanding and was immense last night.

If you were the manager of a League Two side which needed a bit more firepower [Chesterfield, for instance] wouldn't Hannah's goal return for Town catch your attention? Not all clubs in that division are blessed with a Nahki Wells plus an Alan Connell as a back-up. In that scenario Hannah's supposed loyalty to Grimsby might well evaporate pretty quickly!

This for me. But he looks like he's enjoying it here and we're playing him in his preferred position. Plus the only team in this league who could outbid us realistically are Luton but Pond has always been based in the north. We need him to sign and I think he will.

Look at it this way,

If you went into a car salesroom and paid the 1st price the salesman offered,

You would get a lousy deal,

If you barter and make it clear there are other cars for sale elsewhere,

You get a better deal,

Its the same when one club wants to sign a player from another club,

At the end of the day, Town and Bradfud will reach an agreement that is suitable for both parties.

But it works on the reverse as well if other people are also interested in the car you want the sales person won't be interested in bartering.

Agreed. It seems to me Bradford know how desperate we are for him to sign asap and have hiked the price up a bit. The longer January goes on the more the price will go down (and possibly the more points we'll lose out on). Or he'll just sign for someone else

I think we still have the best chance of getting him. We have probably been paying half his wages whilst on loan, and it is normal to pay the other half if you sign the player on a permanent deal later. So if he is sold to anyone else they can say goodbye to all that money. They are asking for 50K, I can not see anyone pay that for him, so the half of his wage and say 10-15K should get him strait away on 1st Jan. If not he is worthless by the end of Jan, and then we could get him for next to nothing, and not pay the half of his wages whilst on loan. Either way we win. Christmas, well we will get through it, 4 pts from Lincoln & Mansfied away would be good, and on the first I am sure S&H have a loan player or two  lined up. DON'T PANIC - WE ARE GRIMSBY.

It's loan not lone. Lots of assumptions in there: We don't  know how much Bradford are asking or what he gets paid, or who might be interested etc etc....

Pond is the most important signing for me . It's clear from this season that we can play crap , score 1 and win compared to previous seasons where we'd have to score 3 to win .
We need Hannah for as much as he doesn't do much out the box , he's got that knack of being in the right place at the right time and finishing 7 times out of 10 . We shouldn't be bent ova by Bradford , mainly cos we can't afford £50k in reality . Maybe £30k payed over 2 years would be a sensible deal for both parties .

How much is it reported that Bradford are asking?  I've heard 50K I guess we're all expecting JF to dip into his pockets, but why JF, shouldn't it be all 3 directors that pay £16,500 each rather than JF paying the full amount (or whatever amount it maybe).

Yeah but they have to realised JF is no longer chairman or in charge if you like so all 3 are now responsible in my eyes. Anyway here is an article from Bradford about Hannah

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed striker Ross Hannah will return to the Coral Windows Stadium after the completion of his loan deal with Grimsby Town.

The 26 year-old has spent the last three months at Blundell Park, scoring eight goals in thirteen matches for the Mariners in the process.

In his final game of his loan period, Hannah scored the winner in Grimsby's 1-0 win over Wrexham this Friday to send them top of the Blue Square Bet Premier.

With City's players set to train this Sunday following Saturday's postponement at Wycombe Wanderers, Hannah will join up with his team-mates once again in preparation for the club's Boxing Day clash at home to Accrington Stanley.

Hannah's impressive form during his time with the Mariners is believed to have put the forward on the radar of a number of Conference clubs.

Grimsby themselves are keen to try and bring the forward back to Blundell Park but Parkinson has stressed that any move for Hannah must be a permanent move.

"Ross Hannah will be back with us as of tomorrow (Sunday) morning," Parkinson confirmed.

"He did really well during his time at Grimsby and we were all pleased to see him get some goals under his belt.

"There were times when we could have called Ross back given the amount of games we've had in periods this season, but we decided to be fair to Ross and to Grimsby.

"We wanted to give Ross the full three months at Grimsby.

"As you may expect given the amount of goals he's scored, there has been some interest in Ross from other clubs.

"We have stressed to Grimsby and to any other club interested in Ross that he is not going anywhere else on loan.

"If any of the interested clubs make an offer for Ross that we feel is right for the club and for Ross, we'll listen to it.

"Until then though, we look forward to welcoming him back and working once again with him."

At the same time as Hannah comes back into the club, first year pro Adam Baker has joined Blue Square Bet North side Harrogate Town on a month's loan.

Parkinson added: "It will be a good chance for him to enjoy a solid month of playing football and getting some games."

"It will be a good test for him. Harrogate is a good club and they play good football."

Right let's get this straight people, if you forgotten john had help in the form of Mr Parker.....who had more financial clout than john I think but what happen?? That would of been his help in funding future players....now I don't know what happened between the pair but why couldn't they just get along for the good of the club?? AS for the others you are right they can't even afford a selection box from freemo market never mind chipping in for Hannah.
