It's all well and good saying money is there.....I can't recall a time recently where any GTFC board has said you aren't having any money to the manager.
It's whether Hurst will spend it and more crucially how. If I recall correctly the current owners have also fairly recently stated the "wage structure" in place which is a bigger issue perhaps.
We need exciting, we need someone to lift us off our seats, not wingers who are great at tracking back but can't deliver a cross and midfielders who protect the back four but can only pass sideways.

I agree we need these factors but would the players who could do that need to sign for us?

I think given our position in the table and last seasons turnaround, I’m not particularly’worried’ as such, but I’m certainly annoyed at the fact we find ourselves going backwards.

Hurst will keep his job, no point anybody wasting any breath over those calls but if we get to the end of the season still regressing without a forward then a call has to be made. People have defended the bloke multiple times about his lack of ability to find a striker, but even the most ardent excuse maker for him will run out of reasons if he doesn’t get one in Jan? Even if he gets one this window, it’s still been a shocking return for somebody who prides themselves on unearthing ‘gems’.

I think the narrative of ‘Hursty will be hurting’ or ‘Hursty will make sure there’s a big reaction next time’ need to stop and there needs to be questions asked to ensure we don’t end up accepting regression just because it’s him.

I'm the opposite I am worried as yesterday the players seemed to start working harder without the ball 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after we scored, then stopped. Despite some good finishing on their part we gifted them their goals. Heads went down when they scored the 2nd, we don;t appear to talk to each other and it didn't look like anyone seriously wanted to get their sleeves rolled up and at least create some form of response. Like I said on a previous thread we look like a relegation side in waiting at the moment and based upon the last few weeks if it's 50 points for safety I'm not sure how and where we'll get them.

Paul Hurst in my view will quite rightly stay as he's earned the right to stay. The owners appear structured and I would imagine will do a full review at the end of the season but we need to change some faces pretty quickly and all parties involved will have no doubt identified the talent we need but the real challenge is persuading those players that they need to sign for Grimsby Town.

On the drive home this morning I caught something on the wireless from Thomas Frank who was basically saying coaches and teams need to re-invent themselves periodically something the best in the business Sir Alex did really well. If ever there is a time to re-invent this GTFC squad it's now for sure.

Leaking early goals reminds me of the season before last under Runaway. It’s a worrying sign. It suggests we’re going into games underprepared - tactically or mentally (or both).

Hurst is going nowhere. The board will continue backing him unless something drastically goes wrong. Remember, there’s still a load of stuff off the pitch that needs work/investment. They need a steady pair of hands to handle matters on the pitch, helping to stabilise the club after years of underinvestment.

When Ian Holloway resigned his final 8 league matches...
W 2   D 1   L 5   F  8   A 15   GD  -7   PTS  7

And our current last 8 league matches under Paul Hurst II...
W 1   D 1   L 6   F  8   A 16   GD  -8   PTS  4

I don't think for one minute that the owners will bin off Hurst at the momeny, but let's be honest as things stand he could have few complaints if he was sacked. We're 16th in the league. Of the 8 teams below us 6 have sacked their manager already this season (including Crawley who have sacked 2). The only teams below us who have kept their manager are rock-bottom Gillingham and Harrogate where the manager is the owner's son.

Hurst got a free pass for our relegation in 2020/21, but he only achieved 23 league points from 25 league matches as we went down with a whimper. Holloway managed a point a game at the start of the season (19 points from 19 league matches). So you can't even say that he was turning us around and ran out of time. Statistically he made us worse.

Obviously the promotion gets Hurst a big tick. However his recruitment is starting to look increasingly poor albeit under difficult circumstances in the summer (we got promoted 29 days after the majority of clubs had finished at the end of last season and were well into their recruitment for this season).

I am grateful for what Hurst has done for us over 2 spells as manager, but we're a club gearing up to get back to the sort of level both on and off the pitch where we should be (regular League 1 with the occasional spell in the Championship when things are going well & the occasional short spell in League 2 when things go badly). Apart from a great season at Shrewsbury which ultimately ended with 2 defeats at Wembley after being in the automatic promotion places for virtually the entire season he's not got much on his CV at EFL level.

A lot of Fishy posters seem to think the owners will never sack Hurst, but look at how the non-football part of the club has been restructured and long serving employees have left the business. Andrew & Jason haven't had the hugely successful careers they've had by tolerating under performance within their organisations. If they decide Hurst is under performing they'll sack him. I don't expect that anytime soon, but we've had 4 points from 8 league matches. What if the next 8 matches yields similar (or worse) results?

Although I don't agree with this post in it's entirety, it is extremely well balanced.

He's not going anywhere so it's pointless to even suggest otherwise.

What this run of results does is put an even greater focus on January, his new head of recruitment and what they can achieve. There's clearly some players who he doesn't like or rate and I expect they already know their fate. There's talk of building for next season but we certainly need a focal point for our attack beyond Ryan Taylor as he's fundamental to the way we play. Problem is, such players aren't cheap and recruiting another within our budget will not be easy.

As we’ve not been in the 3rd tier for what 18 years can you explain what timeline you’d expect us to get there?
