I suspect that Ronaldos recent behaviour and the fact he’s been dropped by his club and now his country has probably shifted the view of some.

In reality, we probably need to realise how lucky we are to have lived in a time when both played the game, and for a long period too.

I feel like this is Messi’s time though, he’s already been to one World Cup final but this time the Argentina side are different, they’re a better side and I think Messi will have learned and as we’ve seen the last two games, he’s still able to control and influence a game.

A World Cup win makes him the greatest of all time.

It's a tricky one because for a good 10 years Ronaldo was unbelievable. Think back to when he first signed for united, wow. I used to love watching his tricks.
I try not get into this debate of who's better as they're both different type of players. It's just a shame we didn't see them in the same team at their prime with a natural scorer upfront...

I think Messi is naturally more gifted than Christiano Ronaldo anyway. I know it was his ex team mate but Gerard Pique said something I agreed with when asked who was better Messi or C Ronaldo . Said along the lines of Ronaldo is a tremendous footballer but Messi has that X factor. Likewise I picked up on something the ITV pundit Karen Carney said loosely yesterday at pitch side after the game.You hear about Messi but having seen him play  live now  the magic he produces is phenomenal.

I disagree with the greatest of all time tag, you can't compare different era's IMO.   I'd happily agree he's the greatest player of recent times.

I think this is probably fair enough.

But with regards to the debate about whether Messi or Ronaldo were the better player, only a fool would think Ronaldo was better. Ronaldo was an exceptional athlete and a tremendous finisher but he's never controlled games like Messi still does.

I know he would be great in our walking football team.

On a side note interesting to hear what Pablo Zabaleta the ex footballer now doing a bit of punditry on the BBC  said on  Messi. Reason for the Argentinian fans traveling in vast numbers eg 75% of the stadium whenever Argentina play are full of their fans is they know it will be probably Messi's last world cup and he's indicated as much recently. Hence they want to see him go out on a swansong lifting that famous trophy .
