excellent news. Would have preferred if it was us that sent them back, but 2 of Holloway's non entities off the books.

Are Bristol City saving face... Why would you recall a player that is playing regularly... I suspect that is not the full story.. but we move on... Hopefully that will enable us to starting moving players in as well..

We probably couldn't terminate with them being a season long loan. If they've been told that neither will get game time then it would make sense to get them back and out somewhere that they'll play. Suspect Bennett might be harder as Bristol Rovers won't want him back and won't be bothered if we play him or not.

Probably want to loan them somewhere they will get more game time.

Would have like to see Edwards stay. Poor distribution yes but can beat players for fun at this level - if he can do it in the right areas he could cause problems for the opposition defence, win free kicks and the odd penalty.

Assume that Holloway was given mate's rates on these two and now he's gone they feel they can set up a better loan fee for them elsewhere or sell them. Edwards has some talent but hasn't really hit the ground running and Morton has been fairly anonymous for the most part.
If Hurst can bring in his own players who want to play for him then all the better.

We are too low in the league to afford to let young players learn their trade. Need experienced pro's right now.

Yes agree. Couldn’t really imagine Edwards rolling his sleeves up and grafting to keep us up. He had something tricky about him but no big loss IMHO.

Send every other loan player back , pump Gibson and Jackson out on season long loans to conference or below as soon as we have a possible replacement , give touray his cards. Tilley won’t be around long either.
The more you look at what holloway created the more you think it was only his profile that allowed him to get away with it , the blind belief from us all that he knew what he was doing.

i agree, but i was pondering on him n hurst, and i couldn't see it. if i remember correctly Hurst was quite keen on wingers, but they had to be prepared to work hard - Colbeck, Marshall & Rodman for example. the only 'luxury'/extravagantly skilful players i can recall were Neilson & Vose

I thought he had, he looked a real handful when he first played but my feeling is his form deteriorated due Holloway pissing about with the team.

I think with Holloway leaving Bristol City have recalled players and Edwards was getting games but he's skillful but he tries to take to many players and never gets his cross in.

I didn’t think he’d wait long to get going.
I’d imagine using the term “recalled” is being respectful to the players rather than saying they’ve been sent back.
I’d suggest Paul probably rang their manager and said they won’t be included in his plans and its progressed.

Personally I'm not convinced, I think we need a new first choice left back and then Hope/Hewitt/Hendrie can deputise as and when needed.

Agreed, think Preston’s a little bit off being league 2 quality, although I don’t doubt he will be in the future. For me Edwards isn’t good enough. Can take on people for fun, but can’t pass, shoot or cross (although he did score one cracker). And Morton, well, clearly FGR got a different player to us because their fans seemed to rate him.

Me neither, he looks quite good at times, especially going forward, but we've conceded loads of goals from that side of the pitch. Need an experienced left back to come in and keep Preston as cover for injuries.

Preston seems good at times but my gut feeling is that we have conceded more goals down our left side than elsewhere- anyone know the stats? He seems to lack positioning and isn’t a touch on Hendrie. He is all we have for now though which, in itself, is crazy

Hurst says he has watched our last 4 games, Our left flank has been shite in all those four games, poor full back and terribly cover given by whoever resides on the left in midfield. Bennett and Preston will not be part of Hurst's vision.

I think some people are being a little unfair on Preston, generally he has been one of our better performers (though agree that doesn’t say much on occasion), and often he gets doubled up on due to the left side of midfield being so weak at tracking back or tackling which then leaves him exposed

Would have liked to keep Edwards, dont know if Hurst wanted him to stay but I really can't think of any real flair/luxury players Hurst has ever kept. All he wants are midfielders that defend first and occasionally approach the attacking end of the field. All part of the Hurst functional football theory.

Preston and Edwards will be decent players and I would be happy if they were ours, back up to the first team and we were able to send them out on loan ourselves to develop. But as Ginny said, for right now we need players that can make an impact. I don't necessarily think they need to be seasoned pros, remember how good Townsend was at a similar age to Preston? Even Glennon. He still hasn't gone out on loan this season and hasn't played for Burnley.
Also, just to add, Forest can recall Preston from tomorrow.

Edward's need to develop, no good in a relegation scrap, doesnt track, cant tackle and wastes the ball in possession 99% of the time. Hope he comes on and develops his game or finds a team that can afford a luxury player for him to flourish as he definately has some attributes but not right for us right now. Morton.....right from first viewing didnt look capable at all. No loss there.

See I got a few red crosses already for not blowing smoke up Hursts bottom. Will he save us from relegation? he is a good bet. Move us up the leagues? who knows we will find out in the next couple of years. Everyone is assuming the new people will throw money at it, they might just be as tight as Fenty on the playing side, but I have more confidence in Hurst finding some good experienced bargains than Holloway did.

Would have kept Edwards. Thought he worked hard and bought us a few free kicks, corners and attacked the box. Yes, he made bad passes but suffered from dire midfield support and a massive loss of form and confidence from Preston. Despite being small and targetted for some disgusting fouls, he showed more spirit than some with long contracts. I wonder if Bristol said it's both or neither?
Alternatively, perhaps Hurst has someone lined up anyway.

That’s harsh on Edwards. If he had a fault is was what didn’t go on between his ears than his heart.

Felt a bit for the young lads sent on loan here.. bet they wondered wtf was going on the team was a mess under Runaway wouldn't be surprised if they had all asked to go back!
Will be glad to see some organisation and some astute signings next couple weeks.

I know we haven't scored sackloads of goals so far this season, but Edwards has the most assists in our squad with 3.
I'd have kept him if it was up to us, and thought he would've benefited from better quality centre-forwards.
Think our team at the end of January is going to look very different to the one that played Oldham the other night.

Not sure fans are thinking that as the playing budget is unlikely to change due to the salary cap. Hurst has also stated he wants a smaller squad so maybe not this season but we should get quality over quantity. I m expecting the increased investment to be spent on the clubs administration and infrastructure not players.

Exactly Lincoln Mariner, a comprehensive training, coaching and analytical team don't count towards the cap and should help enable us to become competitive in D4.
As will infrastructure investments at the training ground (at which the team couldn't train today!)

Edwards reminds me of Dembele when he was here. Beat men for fun but often run into blind allies, his final ball was rubbish. He looks a different player now in a decent team with good players around him. I think Edwards would be the same.

I expect most of the loads to go back eventually as Hurst replaces them

Are Bristol City saving face... Why would you recall a player that is playing regularly... I suspect that is not the full story.. but we move on... Hopefully that will enable us to starting moving players in as well..

Hurst indicated, in the Matt Dean interview today, that Edwards was a loss - Bristol City recalled him he wasn't sent back.

They have an injury crisis.
